Program Description

  • MEng in Civil and Environmental Engineering Science at the University of Alberta allows students to complete this course in 2 years.
  • It is an on-campus course-based program offered on a full-time basis.
  • The department provides various three types of degree programs such as:
    • Master of Science (MSc, Thesis-Based)
    • Master of Engineering (MEng, Course-Based)
    • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD, Thesis-Based)
  • The Master of Engineering is a course-based program that requires a minimum of 24 credits (eight single-term graduate courses), of which 15 credit (five single-term courses) should be in the student’s major field of interest, plus a project.
    • University provides the flexibility to complete the program in a minimum of 9 months and a maximum of 4 years.
    • The Faculty of Engineering's mission is to:
      • produce engineering graduates and to produce graduates who can be leaders in engineering design and research.
      • produce nationally and internationally recognized engineering research.
      • provide high-quality service to the engineering profession and the external community.
    • Students have the opportunity to enroll in many student-run clubs and competitions, which allow students to build their engineering skills and gain hands-on experience.

    Eligibility & Entry Requirement

    Academic Eligibility:

    • Students must complete a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering field from a recognized institution.
    • A GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on the most recent two-years of full-time study (or equivalent) is required.
    • Students must hold an English Language Proficiency test score.

    Indian Student Eligibility:

    Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

    • Completed a 4-year UG degree with first-class (60% marks) in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
    • Students must have a GPA of 3.0/4.0 (B Grade) in the recent 2-years of full-time study.

    Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.

    Following are the required documents:

    • CV/Resume: Outline of academic achievements and/or awards, publications, relevant work, and/or volunteer experience.
    • Transcripts: Submit copies of official transcripts from post-secondary institutions attended in PDF format.
    • Reference Form/Letter: Three reference forms and letters of recommendation completed and uploaded by referees (Teachers, guidance counselors, or Professors) directly to the online portal.
    • Three Letters of Reference: The online application system will notify the references and allow the student to upload their letters. Letters can be academic or business references.
    • Statement of Intent: Reasons or intentions for pursuing studies in this program, including a description of prior experience.
    • ELP Scores: Students have to submit their English language proficiency scores like IELTS, TOEFL, or other test scores.
