A Candid Insight on Athabasca University
I opted for this college because the other top-level institutions were very hard to get into. I applied at 5 places and Athabasca University was my 4th priority. But I'm really happy that I got accepted into this university. Also, my university receives grant research funding from the government so there are numerous opportunities to see and learn cool stuff in my area of study here. I applied to the university through the graduate application form along with the application fee of $118.
The program that I am pursuing delivers skills that are needed in the fast and growing market. The subjects included in my curriculum are business administration, financial management, accountancy, mathematics, and economics. This course very well provides students with in-depth knowledge about the subject and helped me to gain skills in leadership and management.
Since I completed my under graduation, I was always keen on pursuing business administration to get diverse knowledge in the field of business. I had submitted my test scores of IELTS score of 6.5 as proof of language proficiency along with the SAT score of 1150, for getting admission. I had even submitted my official transcripts, an affidavit of financial support, and a copy of my resident card. I was required to submit an immunization form and a letter of good conduct.
Multiple scholarships are offered by the university to international students like me. The Scholarship Tuition Waiver helps reduce the tuition fee for international applicants. Research awards are available for international applicants offering nearly $1000. It was because I was unable to avail of any scholarships or rewards, that I had to pay a tuition fee of around $3,300 and the overall expense (housing, books, etc) for a year is around $12,000.
I opted for on-campus housing because of the secure environment. There are various housing facilities like resident halls, apartments, and small houses. Of which, I was offered accommodation at one of the resident halls. The accommodation was made available as soon as I reached the university.
The University has a web-based job database, HireFresnoState. There are not many placement opportunities available, however, multiple employment sites are suggested by the department of mathematics for job search opportunities.
The university carries out a large series of events throughout the year for helping us to communicate and adjust to a new environment. Some of the events include- Ethnic Day, Graduation Gala, and a lot more fun events that are held regularly.
