I had applied to 5 colleges across Canada but chose the Schulich School of Business as it offers one of the best MBA programs. I scored an overall 88% in the undergraduate course which met the minimum admission requirements. I applied through the online portal and paid an application fee of around $150.
My course taught me communication, interpersonal and business skills along with a knowledge of real business consulting through the projects in the course. The subjects in this program were marketing management, managerial finance, management accounting, information systems. These courses help gain insight into management and leadership skills.
I joined this program as it offered a real-world experience with two consulting projects with clients regarding real business problems. The course offered 33 credits through core courses and 27 could be completed through the elective subjects. I gave the GMAT exam in which I scored 600 and for English proficiency I gave the IELTS exam in which I scored 7.5. I had a work experience of three years. I also submitted an essay, my transcripts, resume and recommendation letters.
The program provided good job opportunities with an average starting pay of about $91,000. Some of the companies that recruit at Schulich are Blanc Labs, Armtec, Amazon, HSBC. Over 89% of students find jobs after completing their MBA within the next three months.
The Schulich School held a number of events throughout the year. The Graduate Business Council organized events such as getaways in January and September, an annual Graduate Formal, pub nights, guest lectures, and panels.
I paid a fee of around $26,000 as a total tuition fee per year for full-time study. The books had cost me around $1700 and health insurance of around $850. International students are directly applicable for merit-based entrance awards and scholarships but I did not receive any and paid my expenses in full.
The professors of the faculty were all experienced and seasoned practitioners in the teaching field. The courses were taught to me in an enthusiastic method which taught me how to communicate effectively, be influential and persuasive in my agendas. Throughout the two years I gained knowledge regarding finance and accounting.
The school offers residence on-campus at the York University. I chose to stay on-campus at the York Apartments and paid a fee of about $1,100 per month which included water, electricity, and heat. The TV cost, parking cost had to be paid separately.
