I completed my MBBS from a reputed university in my country where I scored 95%. I wanted to pursue my MD from a university abroad so that I get exposed to a new type of teaching method and have a different, cross-cultural experience. I got to know about the Northern Ontario School of Medicine from a college fair and immediately applied online through OMSAS and paid the application fee of $220.
The course was designed and organized around five themes. Northern and rural health, personal and professional aspects of medical practice, social and population health, foundations of medicines, and clinical skills in health care. The degree concentrated on the overall development of us as individuals who should be prepared enough for life after MD and be in our best skill.
In order to obtain admission at NOSM, I had submitted my official marks transcripts from high school to my degree to WES for assessment. I had also submitted my autobiographical sketch in the category of X (extracurricular activities) amongst 6 different categories options given to us. Along with all this, I submitted my TOEFL scores of 96 marks.
The university has partnered with several local as well as regional hospitals and organizations. For example, hospitals like Georgian Bay general hospital, riverside healthcare facilities Inc, Sault area hospital, thunder bay regional health science center, etc have partnered with NOSM. The university focuses on providing us with the best career facilities and guidance.
Several academic, as well as career-oriented events, are hosted by the university for us. Events like overcoming barriers, collaborative leadership, IPE sessions, HSN grand rounds, etc are organized by the university for us that not only focus on our career and academics but also on our personal growth and leadership growth.
The tuition that I had paid was $42600 per year. There were many scholarships available which we can find about from the college's official website and the eligibility criteria for the same. The scholarship application has to be filled during the time of admission.
All of my professors were with terminal degrees and with research papers on their names. All my professors were regular medical practitioners and were really skilled in their respective fields. They made sure we learn through their experiences.
I stayed in the housing facility near the campus for which I paid $800 as room rent for a furnished room. I had paid $1000 a meal and dining fee per month. My expenses used to be $1000 per month that also included books and supplies.
