GMCH BDS FAQs
Ques. Is there a domicile requirement for BDS at GMCH Chandigarh?
Ans. No. All 100 seats are under the All India Pool, open to candidates from any state based on NEET-UG merit. Only the 5 Central Pool seats are filled by Ministry of Health nominations. This differs from MBBS at GMCH, which reserves seats for UT Chandigarh residents.
Ques. What is the total BDS fee at GMCH Chandigarh?
Ans. The total course fee for Indian students is INR 7,48,720, covering four academic years. Annual tuition starts at INR 1,74,405 in Year 1 and rises to INR 1,96,905 in Year 4. A one-time registration fee of INR 1,100 and a Students Welfare Fund contribution of INR 5,000 are also charged.
Ques. What NEET-UG percentile is needed for BDS?
Ans. The minimum eligibility is the 50th percentile for General category candidates. SC/ST/BC candidates need the 40th percentile and persons with disability require the 45th. Actual admission cutoffs depend on merit and seat availability each cycle. Candidates should check the previous year closing ranks on the GMCH official site for a realistic estimate.
Ques. Is the BDS internship paid?
Ans. Yes. The fifth year is a compulsory paid rotatory internship at Dr. Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital. It covers all dental specialities and is mandatory for degree conferral. The stipend amount is determined by the institution.
Ques. What career options are available after BDS from this institute?
Ans. Graduates can set up private dental practice, apply for government dental officer posts through UPSC or state PSC examinations, or pursue MDS for specialisation. Some graduates also appear for licensing exams such as NBDE for overseas practice. Government health schemes such as CGHS and defence services regularly recruit dental officers.
Ques. How is BDS admission different from MBBS at GMCH?
Ans. BDS admission has no UT Chandigarh domicile requirement while MBBS reserves 115 seats for UT Chandigarh residents. BDS has no All India Quota seats routed through MCC, whereas MBBS sends 23 seats through MCC counselling at mcc.nic.in. Both programs use the NEET-UG score and share the single GMCH application form.
