Elphinstone College, established in year 1856, is a public institute affiliated to Mumbai University. The college is situated in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Elphinstone college currently offers courses in Arts, Science and Commerce fields at UG level. BA and B.Sc. are offered with three majors in different subject combinations with over 100 seats while BCom is offered with over 50 seats. The admission to all the UG level programs is merit based on the 10+2 marks obtained in the Maharashtra

  • Candidates applying for BA must have at least 40% marks at 10+2.
  • For B. Sc candidates, Mathematics is a compulsory subject at 10+2.
  • A student who has passed Diploma in Computer Engineering /Computer Science/Computer Technology/ Information Technology/Electrical, Electronics & Video Engineering and allied branches/Mechanical and allied branches, civil and allied branches of Engineering after S.S.C. (Xth Standard) is eligible for direct admission to the Second Year of the B.Sc. (I.T.) degree course.
  • Candidates from any stream can apply for BA and B.Com.
  • All the norms for admission and reservations will be applicable as per rules of Government of India.

Elphinstone College Mumbai BA Admissions 2019

Elphinstone College offers courses in BA with various different combinations. The main subjects are – Economics, English, Geography, Hindi, History, Marathi, Sociology, and Political Science. The students major in the subjects at the third year of the course. They can choose either one subject or two of their choice.

  • Preference for awarding scholarship is given to candidates who have managed to clear all the examination and have remained students of Elphinstone College throughout their College and university career.
  • In case students transferred from other colleges have obtained an aggregate of 55% in their terminal examinations, they can also be considered for the scholarship awards.
  • There are several determining factors for awarding scholarship such as good conduct, satisfactory progress, and regularity in attendance.
  • Candidates awarded scholarships are however not exempted from payment of College and Gymkhana Fee.

  2. The J.H. Bhabha Memorial Scholarships: This is also managed by Sir J.H. Bhabha Memorial Trust. Candidates from economically modest family background pursuing B.A./B.Sc (First Year) are eligible or monthly scholarship of INR 150/-.
    Scholarship is admissible for first year but can be renewed for the second and third year depending on candidates’ annual examination performance.

No exam was need for the admission. I got the admission with the help of in-house quota as I did my 11-12th in the same college earlier. The cut-off for the in-house students are much less when compared to the students who comes for admission from other colleges.
