Ques. What is better between an engineering degree from Mumbai University or from any autonomous institute like VJTI, KJ Somaiya or SPIT?

● Top Answer By Monika on 04 Jan 21

Ans. You may have confused SPIT (Sardar Patel Institute of Technology) with SPCE (Sardar Patel College of Engineering). SPIT is not an autonomous institute. The courses offered in SPIT are Computers, IT, Electronics, and Electronics and Telecom. Deciding Factors: If you are looking for any particular program, then you should narrow down your choice of college based on courses. If you are more college-driven then you should go through the following points to make the right decision. First, you should ask yourself about what do you want out of your engineering degree, whether it is academics, extracurricular, or co-curricular.  Also, it depends on your future goals. Whether you want good placements, seek higher education, or go for start-ups.  VJTI: Considering all the factors, VJTI is the best option. It is an autonomous college with a strong foundation. It also has a broad alumni base.  All these factors result in better internship opportunities, better placing companies, and a better network in education.  For extracurriculars, most of the engineering colleges in Mumbai offer almost the same opportunities. However, Thandomal, DJSCOE, and RAIT offer mesmerizing events. However, since extracurricular is not the sole factor of consideration, VJTI will be sufficient.  The placement statistics of recent years at VJTI are as follows. Average CTC 6.8 LPA Highest CTC 27 LPA Academics and co-curricular do not depend on the institute only. It is what you make of it. VJTI is the best choice as it provides a good network and exposure. Preference Order: The preference order of the institutes other than VJTI is as follows.  Placement- SPIT>DJSCOE>KJSCOE Reputation- SPIT>KJSCOE>DJSCOE Academics- SPIT>DJSCOE>KJSCOE Alumni- DJSCOE>KJSCOE>SPIT Extracurricular- DJSCOE>SPIT>KJSCOE If you get admission to VJTI you should definitely opt for it. You should consider what course you are choosing and research about the facilities and placements. For example, CS at SPIT has better placement than ME at VJTI or any of the other colleges mentioned here.  Also, autonomous colleges have better administration in MU. They have a better examination schedule, quick result release and you will have higher chances of securing a good CGPA.Read more

Course Curriculum Overview

Since childhood, I had been amazed by the growth in the domain of computer science. This pulled me to take the stream. Each department in the college has a number of professionally educated faculty who give their best for imparting education to the students. Most of the teachers are Ph.D. in teaching or pursuing Ph.D. Apart from them, there are some teachers who have one or multiple doctorates. Some of the teachers have completed their graduation from top IITs of India. All this helps the teachers to make the curriculum better and student-friendly. Term exams were conducted regularly and were easy enough. If the concepts of the course are clear enough, one can easily score a 9+ pointer out of 10.

It was great in the 1st and 2nd year, but after that the principal changed and then it was all downhill and still is. Like it is going to be a very tough 4 year journey, especially in campus.

The syllabus is slightly outdated but still very valid and apt. Could be more advanced but the college is making its attempts to bring the syllabus to a higher standard. We have activity based learning and other programs for a hands on learning experience

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is moderate not too expensive but yes minimally feasible. It's about 140k for 1st year and later on it decreases by 10-20k for the three years ahead. General students have to pay complete fee and then later on get 50% reimbursement only if they apply to Chhatrapati shahu Maharaj scheme for generals. And different schemes are there for category Students.

Course Curriculum Overview

It is kind of between research driven and actual academia. You would be given opportunities to participate in various tech and non tech competitions and your project topic would be research based, you'd be given chance to research on your topic and then pitch your idea and get it accepted.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fees is 1.5 lakh. Which is kind of feasible. Although various other colleges take less fees but still 1.5lakh is somewhat feasible considering all the labs, equipments, placements and other various benefits provided to the students. SPIT also has a playground for volleyball, football and cricket.

Course Curriculum Overview

9/10

Course curriculum of SPIT is good. It is made such that students can get all the knowledge they can, in order to become successful in life. Every important subject which is needed in the jobs will be covered in college and even various topics such as health, law, etc which are useful in life will also be covered.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fees structure is bit expensive. We have scholarship as normal provided by government, which help poor and help students to upgrade their in the college. It should be less acc to seen the condituon of the students.

Course Curriculum Overview

Our course curriculum is designed to help for the best results, as our college is an Autonomous college, we have a slight change related to the Mumbai University. The exam pattern are also changed. Which include more activities rather than written exams.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fees is quite expensive but still it's feasible. The college follows the Maharashtra state cell's guidelines for securing admission in the college.there are no hidden charges, and the college didn't take any such donations and the admission is based strictly on merit of MHTCET and JEE MAINS.the college provides transparency in providing the fees breakdown.

Exam is bifurcated into( in semester ),(mid semester)and end semester ones.mostly it is application based and help students to apply the learning outcomes.I would say it's a fair one. These exams keep students engaged all thouroughout the semester and hence we are being assessed almost on a daily basis.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure at SPIT is reasonable when compared to some of the deemed institutions spread across Mumbai. But it is obviously more expensive than the college which are government aided. The college is permanently unaided so the infrastructure is quite descent along with a autonomous status.

Course Curriculum Overview

9/10

The course curriculum is a bit theory oriented with a bit less focus on practical. Though the marking system suggests the opposite when compared to other engineering colleges across Mumbai. The schedule is at max 8am - 4pm. So the students get free earlier and can focus on extra-curriculars too.
