Established in 2008, Symbiosis School of Economics in Pune (Also known as SSE, Pune)  is a part of the Symbiosis International University. It has been ranked the 6th best college among leading business schools in India by Outlook in 2020 whereas the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked it 20 in the year 2019. 

SSE Pune offers both undergraduate (i.e. B.Sc.Honours) and postgraduate (i.e. M.Sc. Honours)  programs in the field of economics. 

The admission criteria are through the Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) which is conducted by the university itself followed by Personal Interaction (PI), and the Writing Ability Test (WAT) of the School. However, there are seats reserved for SC ST, OBC, physically handicapped, and Kashmiri migrants.

Symbiosis School of Economics offers a 3-year program for B.Sc. (Economics) Honors and a 2-year program for M.Sc. (Economics) along with two one year programs namely, a diploma in quantitative economics and a postgraduate diploma in urban development.

Symbiosis School of Economics Admission

Students need to apply online to appear for the Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET)  which is a mandatory test for admission to SSE.

  • For B.Sc. admission, intermediate graduates with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible to take the test to check eligibility for admission for the general category (And 40% for SC and ST category students) along with the Personal Interaction and Writing Ability Test after getting qualified in the SET.
  • For M.Sc. admission, graduates with a minimum of 50% marks at graduation level are eligible for admission. B.Tech. and B.E. graduates can also apply.

Students appearing for final year examinations are also eligible to apply but with a condition that they need to score a minimum of 50% marks (45% for SC/ST category students) at the qualifying exam.

Symbiosis School of Economics Placements

Symbiosis School of Economics Pune has a dedicated placement cell for their students where every year corporate and analytics firms, government organizations, microfinance institutes, and research institutes provide placement to the students. 

The Placement Cell at SSE conducts various exercises to assist students with preparing for their careers after graduation. Every final year B.Sc. and M.Sc. a student goes to a career counseling meeting to assist them with understanding and settle on decisions from the different opportunities available. Students are urged to go to catch up with counseling meetings to help their dynamic procedures. 

The Placement Cell conducts workshops for improving the skills of students on writing CVs, Aptitude Tests, Mock interviews and Group conversations, Grooming and Etiquette, speaking abilities, and non-verbal communication, an effect of current issues on business and economy and so forth.

Ques. Is the Symbiosis School of Economics the right choice for economics?

Ans. Yes, it most definitely is, if you wanna get into a private university. It is of course nowhere compared to public colleges that are highly ranked, but the faculty is good and the academics are almost at par with the other colleges in the sense that you can learn a lot more than just economics if you take up a course here.

Ques. How to apply for SSE?

Ans. You need to register on the official site of Symbiosis International University and then visit the SET website and choose your subjects and fill the application form. If you do get a high SET score, then you will have to appear for PI-WAT ( Personal Interaction and Writing Ability Test) only then your seat will be confirmed and you will be admitted to the school.
