Placement Experience

SIBM offers 2 months summer internship which is mandatory for every student to participate in as it is a part of the curriculum to learn and face the industry challenges. First year students get to take part in SIRP which is the summer internship recruitment program. After summer, some students get PPO and others can appear for CRP that is the campus recruitment program which is help for the final year students.

Remarks

Among the best B-School for learning marketing and business administration. Pune as a location is also very good with the best facilities available at the campus. The admission process has 2 steps. SNAP exam is the entrance test that one must appear to enter SIBM Pune. The shortlisted students then are called on campus for their GEPIWAT round i.e. Group Exercise, Personal Interview and Written Assessment Test. With more than 60,000 students applying for the college, SIBM Pune takes the best 180 students for its 2 year MBA flagship program. The best reason top prefers SIBM over other colleges is its emphasis on all round development with an equal focus on academics as well as extracurricular activities like business competitions, case study competitions, cultural and sports events. Also, SIBM Pune is known for its student driven culture. Right from Admissions to placement to convocation and everything in between is managed by students who have all the authority to take decisions.

The rank of the college, the Placements, the extra-curricular activities, the committee's and clubs in the college, the academic profile and pedagogy in the mentioned B school, the location of the campus, the hostel facilities available in the B-school and many other parameters were considered which ultimately made me choose the given campus.

Placement Experience

Placements and job opportunities were amazing. Unlike other MBA colleges that just boasts, this college has wonderful companies coming up with great packages. The average package and highest packages were more towards the higher side. Best college in the sense of placement, that'd be recommended from my perspective.

Ques. Which college should be preferred? SIBM Pune or IIM Shillong?

● Top Answer By Sugandhi Sood on 07 Feb 21

Ans. Well, one of my friends was a student of SIBM Pune, in a regular batch of 2018-2012. As per his suggestion, always consider SIBM Pune over IIM Shillong due to the following reasons. Placements Categories SIBM Pune IIM Shillong Highest CTC 34.26 LPA 48 LPA Average CTC 18.50 LPA 15.5 LPA Recruiting Companies Aditya Birla, Amazon, Capgemini, CRISIL BirlaSoft, DE Shaw, Deloitte, Goldman Sachs Infrastructure SIBM Pune is located in the hilltop picturesque region of Lavale. It has all the facilities, including fully-equipped fitness facilities and sports facilities like Cricket, Basketball, Football, and other sport advancements like court games and table tennis. Students here also get 24 hours library facilities along with the greatest number of the preeminent range of Bloomberg terminals within the country. Corporate Competitions SIBM Pune is the most preferred B-schools because of its association with the open market competition, results in PPIs and PPOs. This institute has won Godrej LOUD, Reckitt Benckiser Global Challenge, Asian Paints CANVAS, Novartis Bio-camp Case Study Competition, Abbott Business Challenge 2.0 and ABG HeadstaRt in the year 2018 Diversity Various student backgrounds of SIBM Pune influence both the ethnic and cultural diversity of this institute. Classes here have students from 20 states of India, but there are international students, approximately from 15 countries. Student-Driven Culture SIBM Pune is actually and phenomenally student-driven than the other B-schools Not solely the fests and sports tournaments are a unit conducted by students, the company and alumni relations are managed by students. However, my friend does not focus on the college rankings as these are mostly available on public websites. It can be stated that SIBM Pune ranks among the top 5 private B-schools, and it is the most desirable B-school in India. Besides, this institute won a maximum number of corporate competitions in 2018 and successfully achieved the 3rd rank in the Dare2Compete rankings.Read more

Ques. Is MICA worth joining given the hike in their fees from 16.5L to 20L, and average packages standing at 12.8L? How good is it compared to SIBM Pune or IIM Shillong?

● Top Answer By Muskan Sharma on 04 Feb 21

Ans. There are several factors that you should consider before deciding on a business school. Fee is one of them; though the fees you pay at any business school is not directly equivalent to the average package offered, so keep that in mind before making any decision. Now, Management schools generally increase their annual fees by 10 to 20% every two years. For instance, in the year 2018, MICA increased their fees from Rs 16.5 lakhs to 18.5 lakhs and then last year, they increased it again to Rs 20 lakhs. Similarly, SIBM Pune increased their fees by 20 % in the year 2018. Thus, bear in mind that most business schools change their fee structure annually or bi-annually while it is a deciding factor, it is also highly common. Tabulated below are the recent fee structure and average salary offered by the institutes: Institute Name Fee Structure Average Salary MICA 21 LPA 13.9 LPA SIBM Pune 18.8 LPA 20.14 LPA IIM Shillong 10 LPA 18.76 LPA Comparison: MICA is a good management school in itself but when compared to other business schools, it falls short. The college needs to work harder to establish itself as a full-fledged business school when compared to business schools like SIBM Pune or IIM Shillong.  The college offers great placements but the roles offered are very different from the roles a traditional MBA would offer.  Placement offers are mainly from the Media and Advertising field. For instance, this year alone FMCG made up 23% of the placement offers while Media and Advertising companies made up approximately 31%.  MICA is an excellent college with a unique structure; people are creative and innovative there. The college will definitely help you grow and will offer you a very different and unique experience, unlike a traditional management school. While it is a good and upcoming college; it has to work to match up to management colleges like SIBM Pune and IIM Shillong.Read more

Ques. How good is SIBM, Pune actually in terms of placement and academics?

● Top Answer By Rahul Ahuja on 28 Jan 21

Ans. SIBM is one of the best B-Schools ranked 15 amongst the top 15 B-Schools of India. Being a 40+-year-old institute SIBM has a very good reputation and goodwill, the infrastructure and campus is world class with all the basic and necessary facilities.  Pros:  SIBM curriculum is decent and structured to cover all the important and essential topics, the training provided on each topic is detailed and helps students become industry-ready. From assignments to practice lessons everything prepares a student to become a well-trained manager.  The visiting faculty is well experienced in their particular field and provides the best guidance to students. A friend of mine pursued her MBA from SIBM and had the pleasure to learn from reputed faculties like Manasi Phadke (Economics), Col. Sunil Brij Krishan (Organizational Behaviour), Shivram Apte. The specialization based education system of the institute has a placement wise disadvantage. However, students learn more about the specialization in depth through this system. HR recruitment is done through the institute that has HR Specializations and not from General Management colleges. For HR SIBM is the 3rd best college after XLRI and TISS. Cons: The permanent faculty needs some improvement and the institute has to include some well-trained professionals as full-time faculty for the betterment of students.  The case-study method is not followed properly. Which is a big drawback for students - especially for students of core-marketing or HR specialization. The academics of the institute is quite easy-going. Students get accustomed to the easy-going academics and have a hard time adjusting to the corporate workload.  Some core subjects do not get enough focus. Excel Modeling is not a fixed credit course. Only basic techniques are covered in Research Methodology on SPSS. There is very little focus on Analytics and web-analytics. According to student reviews, there is no single umbrella subject for corporate finance. Interesting topics like Equity Valuation are not taught in detail. Subjects like Economics and Financial Markets are given as elective.  Placements: Placements at SIBM are slightly better than SCMHRD, definitely better than NMIMS, and IMTs. The top graduates of SIBM share their workspace with IIM Grads.  However, the institute still does not receive super-premium companies and job roles, i.e. the Big 4 in consulting, front end roles in large I-Banks, big FMCG companies. Placement usually takes place over a concentrated period of 4-5 days. During which ideally 80% of the batch gets placed. In reality, only 60% of the batch gets recruited in that time period. The rest of the batch receives job offers over the 3rd or 4th semester.  After looking at all the points one can say that SIBM Pune is definitely good in terms of Academics and placements.Read more

Ques. As compared to SIBM, Pune, where does SCMHRD, Pune stand?

● Top Answer By Meghdeepa Mondal on 28 Jan 21

Ans. Both SIBM Pune and SCMHRD Pune are institutes of Symbiosis International University, these institutes rank amongst the top 20 B-Schools in India. In order to get admission in both of the institutes, candidates need to appear in SNAP conducted by Symbiosis itself. Even there isn’t much difference in the cut-off marks of both institutes, but SIBM’s cut off remains slightly higher than SCMHRD.  SIBM is the first campus of Symbiosis in Pune and SCMHRD is the second one, but SCMHRD is growing at a steady pace as the gap between these two institutes is 15 years. There are a few factors and parameters on which anyone can compare these institutes. So let's compare and decide where SCMHRD actually stands. Campus & Infrastructure: SIBM: The campus of SIBM is situated a little far from Pune city and the name of the place is Lavale. Surrounded by nature the campus spread in a vast area with all the world-class facilities. If you’re the one who loves nature then this campus is for you.  SCMHRD: On the other hand, the campus of SCMHRD is a bit small and surrounded by factories and offices of big companies. The college is located in Hinjewadi which is just some kilometers from the main city. SCMHRD also provides the best facilities to students.  Courses & Curriculum: SIBM offers MBA, MBA Executive, MBA (Leadership & Strategy) MBA (Innovation & Entrepreneurship).  SCMHRD offers MBA, MBA Infrastructure and Development, MBA Executive, MBA Business Analytics. Fee Structure:  For pursuing MBA in SIBM you need to pay around 23 Lakhs, For pursuing MBA in SCMHRD you need to pay around 22 Lakhs. The other course fees in SCMHRD is MBA-IDM - 15 Lakhs, MBA-BA - 17 Lakhs. Placements:  The highest domestic offer for SIBM students stood at 34.26 LPA. The Average package offered in SIBM is 20.14 LPA. The median salary of SIBM is 18.5 LPA.  The highest domestic stands at 32.8 LPA in SCMHRD. The Average package in SCMHRD is 16.1 LPA. The median salary of SCMHRD is 15 LPA. So, after looking at all these factors we can conclude that whether you choose SIBM or SCMHRD you will not make any mistake. As both SIBM and SCMHRD are on the list of top B-schools of India providing the best management courses to students.Read more

I am a part of the Admissions Team, SIBM Pune and hence an appropriate person to answer the question objectively considering various parameters. SIBM Pune is a premier b-school in the country and has a host of advantages as follows: Location advantages-The college is situated in Pune, which due to robust IT Infrastructure and close proximity to Mumbai, has its own advantages as most of the global firms have established their offices in Mumbai irrespective of the domains. Student driven culture- The student council and SIG’s of SIBM Pune are responsible for undertaking the most critical activities ranging from conducting admissions to maintaining alumni or corporate relations to cultural events to placements with the guidance and support of the Director. The councils independently decide their course of events and plan them end to end along with preparing budgets and handling resources efficiently. Placements- The official reports on Placements and Summer Internships are externally audited and is one of the few colleges that follow IPRS(Indian Placement Reporting Standards). Hence, I can vouch for the figures disclosed in the placement report. Every year, the outgoing batch’s average salary has been on a consistent rise. Last year the official average package offered was 17.48 lacs for the outgoing batch. Batch Size- The Batch size is small, opening doors for more participation in college activities and genuine networking. The peer to peer learning both in and out of class makes the experience valuable and ensures genuine connections being formed both during and well after the course is completed. Corporate Competitions- Competitions are a major differentiating factor between SIBM Pune and other colleges. SIBM Pune emerged as the only college that won maximum corporate competitions in 2018, beating the likes of IIM A, K, FMS or XLRI.. Be it HUL L.I.M.E, Carpe-diem, RB Global Challenge, Godrej Loud, Marico Over the Wall, Tata Steel-A-Thon, Nestle 4 P’s Challenge, Airtel iCreate, ABG HeasStart etc., the students have never failed to make a mark in the business world.
