Ques. Which are better: BA economics honors from LSR or Ashoka University?

● Top Answer By Mukul Parashar on 14 Aug 20

Ans. For BA Economics honours LSR will be a better option as compared to Ashoka University. Given below are the reasons why.  Lady Shri Ram (LSR) is one of the most reputed colleges in Delhi and it also has an enviable alumni base. The focus of Delhi University’s system is a lot more on the undergraduate programs. The professors sincerely dedicate a minimum of 35 hours for teaching.  Ashoka University is also a good university but it is quite expensive to pursue a course from as compared to LSR/DU. The course fee BA Economics (Hons.) degree is 16,390 for first year in LSR. At Ashoka University the course fee is 8.85 lakhs for the first year for BA Economics (Hons.) degree. LSR will provide you with a strong and ambitious peer group as the students of LSR Economics students aim for Yale and Harvard universities after their graduation.  The placement rate and record of LSR is better than Ashoka University. The students at LSR get placed with placement packages ranging between 5-15 LPA. MNCs like EY, Mckinsey, BCG, etc. visit the campus to recruit students. On the other hand, the students at Ashoka University receive an average placement package of 6-7 lakhs. Companies like Deloitte, Clix Capital, Business Standard, Genpact, India Infoline Finance Limited, McKinsey & Co, etc. visit the campus for placement drives.Read more

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose this course because I am interested in Psychology. I recommend one should only pursue it if he or she is interested in it, otherwise, you will really find it a boring subject and which is difficult to memorise. The faculty is very cooperative and compassionate. You will never be rebuked for wrong responses, I am pretty sure of it. They are really encouraging. Teacher students ratio is 70:1. This is a bit distressing. Don't worry!!!! There are practical groups and doubt clarification sessions also in which the teacher-student ratio is 15:1. The faculty's qualifications don't really matter to me. If they are teaching well I am satisfied with it. The faculty is well qualified. Some of them are working as Psychologists as well, working on their projects in collaboration with students. It's a CBCS pattern. So, semester exams are conducted. One really need not worry about the exams. The professors will make you practice so many question papers.

Course Curriculum Overview :

My course is bachelors of elementary education which is available in only eight colleges of Delhi University. LSR is an all-girls college. The faculty are very promising and motivating moreover they they are considered to be the best faculty among DU colleges. The lectures here are very interactive and that is why we get to understand the topic very well.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose this course because it is very vigorous and gives us a chance to develop our own personality. The faculty is very good, we have a separate teacher for each subject, and we have 1 teacher as a mentor for 6 students. The teachers teach not only from reading but the different website and sources. The exam is held annually as it is a professional course but we have an exam before the main exam by our college.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose this course because I want to pursue civil services in the future and the BA program would help me to get a blended overview of various subjects at a time. further, the faculty-student ratio is not very rigid as it varies from subject to subject, for instance, in history, we have around 30 students in a class and for subjects like environmental science, we have the entire batch together. the teachers are generally the ones who have done their Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and their teaching method is always dynamic. Most of the students generally find it easy to cope up with the college studies as the teachers often cite real-life examples that are quite relatable for everyone. Furthermore, the end-semester exams always take place in the months of December and May and it is not very difficult to pass. One could even study two days before the exam in order to obtain passing marks. Also, the questions are highly similar to past years' question papers.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

There are a number of freeships and scholarships that are provided by LSR for the economically backward students. even fundraising activities are quite popular throughout the college. I don't have a lot of experience with the placement process, but as far as I know the placement and packages are really good for commerce/economics, after that the biggest set of placements happens in the English department. Final year students are allowed to sit for placements and are often placed in good companies like KPMG, E&Y, Deloitte, GENPACT, among others.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose this course to have a wider overview of subjects and not specializing in just one core subject. the teaching method is okay and not a new sort of methodology is utilized. the term exams are not that difficult to manage and the questions being asked are quite general in nature. one can easily pass without many worries.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

Since LSR is a government college under University of Delhi its fee structure is not expensive. The registration of student is online which gives her a unique code. The fees is taken at the time of admission patment method could be online/offline,an atm is present at college.once accepted to course a roll number and id card is generated.Like any other government organisation it includes relaxation of marks through quotas like marks cut off is different for sc/st,general,pwd and economically weaker sections of society. There are also other scholarships available on basis of extracirrcular activities and marks.

Course Curriculum Overview :

As far as psychology hons is concerned it is v.exhausting.the classes start from 8.30 am to 4 pm.In each semester there are at least 2 researches to be conducted by students and theory exams which could fetch you 100 percent..The professers at most provide us with pdf of the core and generic elective books but donot provide us with ppt most of the times. As far as research is concerned every year its the same according to the core subject taken and plagarism isn't promoted.Exam marks distribution and course structure are as follows- Core paper is psychology honsGeneric elective is journalism Then, cbcs i.e. choice based credit system as per guidelines of delhi university i.e there for 3 years) subject and journalism (as a generic elective for which we only have to pursue for 2 years).Apart from choosing this course due to high income and employement rates this course also employs mandatory Aecc system which is a skill enhancement system. In sem 1 students are required to take Environmental science and sem 2 requires us to take English as advanced level course. Both of them last for 6 months and finish by 1st year.By the time we are in sem 3 we are provided with SEC which is a skill enhancement paper in your required core paper.Usually at Lsr organizational psychology is promoted. It also lasts for 6months.At the end of 2nd year we are finished with our generic elective/diploma course.3rd year follows same pattern but no diploma course and continuation of SEC courses. In every semester from 1st to 6th we are required to have practicals which involves extensive research skills. At the end of each semester viva and theory both are to be given to obtain perfect 100 percent.(practicals make 50 percent and theory 50 percent.)Books are mentioned by professors and there are no multiple choice question tests, all tests are lengthy and subjective in nature.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee structure is pretty feasible, considering its a government college. My program fee was 18k per year. DU has the lowest fee of all other unis in Delhi. Mode of payment is online and offline as well. No additional fee or charges required. The fee breakdown is pretty transparent. No problem there.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course is amazing. It's great in terms of the diversity we're involved in. The college definitely made me a better leader because I was also the secretary of the dance society of my college. It's was all fair for me, however some students do face biases

The fee of our college is very reasonable as it comes under a Govt University. And freeships are available for the economically weak students. More than 50% of the fee is provided by college for those who are eligible for freeships. Complete breakdown of fee is shown to the students and it?s absolutely transparent.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I am from education department, and thus we study child psychology as a part of our course, we visit schools, different kind of schools slum schools affluent schools and much more. We have story telling practicum and much more. Putting everything in a nutshell our courses are designed to make us a professional.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee structure for LSR is very feasible and being a govt college, its not very expensive. Including the hostel accomodation, it can come to maximum Rs 1lac in 3 years. Students belonging to SC/ST whose parents are not paying Income Tax are exempted from paying Tuition fee and Admission fee. However, they will have to pay the full amount at the time of admission. Refund of the Tuition fee and Admission fee will be given on submission of an application with necessary documents after the reopening of college. They will have to pay the other charges.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The mission at LSR is to provide quality education, to nurture academic excellence and critical enquiry and to encourage an engaged sense of responsibility to the larger community. And the course curriculum is equipped for the same. LSR has been consistently ranked among the top colleges in the country in nationwide polls. LSR?s record of excellence and its pre-eminence in the field of higher education has been acknowledged worldwide.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee structure is transparent and affordable by most middle income group families. There are some freeships and fee waiver as well as other forms of assistance on offer for disadvantaged students. The fees is paid online now. The fee - breakdown is given and one also gets a receipt for the same. For humanities, the fees is upwards of 24,000 per annum. At time a separate examination fee is taken mid term.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course structure was not the most comprehensive as it very conveniently leaves out entire continents for a discipline like History. However, there were some trips, local monument visits, interesteing lectures by eminent historians, and paper presentations that helped us deal with the practical aspect of the subject. The students do have a chance to appear for various interviews through the placement cell.

"Where hands nurture dreams"

I chose to attend Lady Shri Ram College for my graduation in B.A.Hons History because of its esteemed faculty, academic brilliance and the vibrant and multi-faceted environment that it provides for the holistic development of the students. The admission process was based on the merit of the performance in class 12 board exams, with cutoffs ranging from 97 to 99 % for History Hons courses. The portal for admission opened in July for registrations because of the coronavirus pandemic and the marks had to be uploaded after the declaration of class results following which admissions were done on the basis of cut off marks. "LSR: An Enriching Atmosphere"

I joined Lady Shri Ram College for Women in October 2020, the year when education shifted to the online platform. LSR's brand name is enough to convince a student in its favour. However, I was a little hesitant at first because of the college's single-gender environment. So, I researched and decided to join the college. Now, after spending a semester there, I feel that the college does justice to its reputation as one of the best in the country. Pros of LSR: The irrefutable brand name of LSR. "My amazing college experience"

LSR is a dream come true college for me. I always wanted to be there. The infrastructure of this college is worth watching. The seniors and teachers are really cooperative here. There is nothing I can say bad regarding this college. The only problem students are facing is because of the pandemic but besides this everything is excellent. The admission process will be merit-based and cut-offs are taken on different dates for admission. I preferred this college over others because this college suited me the best for pursuing courses in humanities. Its ranking is always among the top 5 colleges in India. Some sites which I went through while selecting this college were NIRF and collegedunia.
