The Department of Industrial and Management Engineering of IIT Kanpur also known as IME was set up in 1974. The department was one of the first in the country which was established to acknowledge the strength of merging management with training of the engineers.
IME offers various undergraduate and postgraduate programs including M.Tech., MBA, along with Doctoral degrees.
Candidates are shortlisted for M.Tech based on their GATE scores followed by a Written Test and Personal Interview round.
Admission to the MBA course is done on the basis of the CAT score followed by a Group Discussion and personal interview round.
Candidates applying for the Ph.D. program should have a master’s degree in Management/Industrial engineering with at least 55% marks or a bachelor’s degree in engineering with at least 75% marks and a valid GATE score.

M.Tech: Candidates are shortlisted for the WAT-PI round based on their GATE scores. Finally, candidates are selected on the basis of merit in GATE and PI round.
Note: There will be no written test/interview for the M.Tech. admission for the year 2020. The admission will be solely based on the GATE score.
Ph.D: Candidates are shortlisted for the WAT-PI round based on their academic record and work experience. Finally, candidates are selected on the basis of merit in the WAT and PI round.
Candidates can apply for the programs through online mode only.
The application fee of INR 1600/- for the General and OBC applicants, INR 800/- for those belonging to SC/ST and Physically Deficient categories must be paid through demand draft payable to 'Registrar IIT Kanpur' payable at Kanpur.

Financial aid is given to M.Tech and Ph.D. students. INR. 8000/- month for assistantship to M.tech students .
For Ph.D. students INR. 18000/-(for engineering) and INR.16000/-( for science/social sciences) for two year. After that it will be raised to INR. 20000/- and INR. 18000/- for another two years.
