SBRR Mahajana First Grade College is part of the group of institutions established by the Mysore Education Trust. This trust was instituted way back in 1937 by a group of visionaries who wanted to promote education in the city of Mysore. The SBRR Mahajana First Grade College was initially started up as an exclusive college for girls as the Trust wanted to promote education of women in the year 1982 and was offering two undergraduate courses leading to a BA and B.Com Degree. Later on, the college took a grant in aid from the state government to expand its facilities in the year 1987 and switched over to being a co-educational institution. It soon started offering undergraduate courses leading to B.Sc and BCA Degrees. The college being located in Mysore, which is a world renowned tourist spot saw opportunities in tourism and started an institute known as Mahajana Tourism Development Institute with a view to turn out professional manpower experts in the field of tourism. The Institute not only offers undergraduate studies in tourism and hospitality BTH, students can also study post graduate courses in tourism and hospitality leading to a MTH Degree. The campus of the college is right in the heart of the city of Mysore and is a stone throw away from the Mysore University. The campus with a built up area of 3,25,000 sq ft is well equipped to meet the requirements of studying the various courses it offers. It has a very extensive library with 30000 books and periodicals as well as laboratories required to carry out hands-on learning process. The college also has a placement cell which has a portal to interact with its students so that it can help them to find gainful employment.
