Shivaji College was established in 1961. It is a co-educational Institute under the University of Delhi providing 20 undergraduate courses. Common streams are Science, Arts, and Commerce. 3 Postgraduate courses are also available, along with add-on courses and a self-financing business economics Course.

Admission to the UG courses is done on the basis of merit. However, to get admissions in BA (Business Economics), a candidate has to appear for the entrance test conducted by the college. Admission to the PG programs is granted on the basis of an entrance exam.
