Indian Institute of Science Education and Research - [IISER] Recent Admission Alerts and Updates

Built up in 2008, IISER Thiruvananthapuram is a self-sufficient foundation that falls under the ambit of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. IISER Thiruvananthapuram has been granted the status of 'Establishment of National Importance'. 

The institute offers a five-year-long BS-MS program at the UG level. Under the PG domain, it offers Ph.D. and Integrated Ph.D. research programs. The admission process is managed by the Joint Admissions Committee (JAC), headed by a Chairman and having members from all IISERs.

Admission to BS and BS-MS (Dual Degree) programs is done on the basis of Common Rank List (CRL) of Joint Entrance Exam (Advanced), Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) fellowship or score obtained in State and Central Boards

Candidates applying through the SCB channel are required to appear in IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) followed by an interview to secure admission in BS-MS (dual degree) program.

Admission to Integrated Ph.D. is done on the basis of a valid score in JEST (for Physics) and JAM (Mathematics and Chemistry). The selection procedure for admission to the Ph.D. program will be based on the performance of the candidate in the interviews.

For admission to the Ph.D. program, National level examination like GATE/NET/UGC-JRF /CSIR-JRF/JEST/JGEEBILS /INSPIRE-PhD /NET-LS/Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship or any other recognized score is mandatory.

IISER Kerala BS-MS (Dual Degree) Admission 2020

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Trivandrum offers Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (BS-MS), a 5-year length course where initial two years are for concentrating course subjects, next two years are devoted to the picked subject of specialization and the most recent year is booked for the exploration project.

IISER Kerala BS-MS Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have passed 10+2/HSC assessment from a perceived board with Science stream are viewed as qualified for admission. 

  • The necessary least qualification score is diverse for various sheets and unwinding of 5% is given to the applicants of OBC Non-Creamy layer and Physically Disabled individuals. 
  • For SC/ST and Kashmiri Migrant up-and-comers, the cut off rate is 55%.Admission to the applicants is given through JEE/KVPY/SCB channel. 
  • Candidates with KVPY partnership are given confirmation under KVPY station, while candidates who secure position inside 10, 000 in the Common Rank List of JEE are admitted to the course, while under SCB station, candidates who have passed 10+2 with Science stream from a State and Central Board are given affirmation.

IISER Kerala BS-MS Selection Criteria

Up-and-comers are admitted to IISER's BS-MS just through after three channels: 

  1. KVPY channel: Candidates having a legitimate KVPY partnership starting for current scholastic meeting are qualified to apply for affirmation

IISER Kerala Integrated Ph.D. Admission 2020

Integrated Ph.D. Programme is a research programme. At the end of the successful completion, Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees are awarded. 

The first three semesters will consist of core and elective courses specialized in one subject (Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics). The fourth semester will consist of advanced courses and project work. After the successful completion of comprehensive and project work, the student will continue with research leading to the Ph.D. degree.

IISER Kerala Integrated Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences/ Chemical Sciences/ Mathematical Sciences/ Physical Sciences/ Engineering/ Technology and related areas as applicable to individual Schools, under the 10+2+¾ system.
  • Candidates seeking admission to School of Physics must have a valid score in Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST).
  • The minimum requirement for admission to the programme is 55% marks or 6.0 out of 10 CGPA in the Bachelor’s degree (as declared by the University).
  • The minimum requirement in the qualifying degree is relaxed for SC/ST and PD candidates as per the rules of Government of India.

Note- Students appearing in the final year Bachelor degree examination are also eligible to apply. However, if selected, their admission will be subjected to fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria for the individual school.

Short-listed candidates who have applied for School of Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics will be called for a written test and those shortlisted in the written test have to appear for interview(s). In the School of Physics, candidates with a valid JEST scorecard will be called for the interview.

How to Apply for Integrated Ph.D. at IISER Kerala?

  • Applicants should complete the online application form at the official portal of I-Ph.D. Only online applications are accepted.
  • Applicants will also be prompted to upload necessary supporting documents, like photograph, proof of date of birth, mark sheet/grade transcript, community certificate etc. in JPEG format only. Go to Required documents for the information regarding the size of the files.

IISER TVM awards admission to different PhD specializations dependent on the score of national-level placement tests.   • 7.5 CGPA in 10-point scale (or first class equivalent) or first class Master’s degree in relevant areas as declared by the respective University.
  • The candidate must have qualified either of the following examinations: CSIR-UGC, UGC-NET-JRF and GATE with validity as of August 2020. Candidates with DST-INSPIRE fellowship or fellowship through any other national-level examinations as mentioned.

Note- BSMS Students from any of the IISERs with CGPA 8 or above on a 10 point scale are exempted from national level eligibility test

The shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a written test/interview at IISER TVM. The final selection of the candidates will solely be based on the performance in the interview.

How to Apply for Ph.D. at IISER Kerala?

Applicants should complete the online application form at the official Ph.D. portal of IISER Kerala.

  • Only applications complete in all respects would be considered. Do not forget to click the “Submit” button after completing your application.
  • Applicants will also be prompted to upload all the supporting documents online.
  • Applicants should provide Name/Affiliation/Contact number and Email addresses of two referees in the application form.
  • Applicants belonging to GE/OBC and SC/ST/PH categories are required to make a payment of INR. 500/- and INR. 250/-, respectively.
  • On submission of the online application form, the applicants will receive an acknowledgment email with a unique application number.

Note- Applicants are NOT required to post a hard copy of the application to IISER TVM. Mere fulfilment of the eligibility criteria does not entitle a candidate to be called for the written test and/or interview.

For the School of Biology, it is mandatory for all the candidates to submit a short research proposal of 300-400 words, which should clearly state a research problem you find interesting to address and how you approach solving this. While applying online, please upload this proposal under the section "Statement of Purpose". Please note the proposal does not need to be related to the research ongoing at the School of Biology, IISER TVM. The proposal will be used to evaluate your scientific aptitude and will be a major criterion for short-listing candidates for the interview.

IISER Kerala Scholarships Schemes

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana researchers admitted to IISERs will draw association according to KVPY standards. Moreover, the Department of Science and Technology gives a set number of INSPIRE grants of Rs.5000/ - every month to applicants conceded through JEE and SCB stations, after satisfying the rules set by DST. Students admitted to the BS program in Engineering or Economics are not entitled for the grant.


Ques. I am a class XII science student. To which projects would i be able to apply in IISERs?

Ans. Any student who has qualified Class XII (or proportional) assessment in science stream either in the year 2019 or 2020 can apply to the BS (multi year) degree/BS-MS (five year) double degree programs in IISERs gave he/she meets the qualification standards (Please click here to peruse the qualification rules). BS degree programs are accessible just at IISER Bhopal. Additionally, for applying to any of the BS qualification programs, understudies must have Mathematics as one of the subjects in class XII assessments.
