Ques. Can BASLP graduates work abroad?

Ans. Yes, but an Indian BASLP degree does not automatically provide a professional licence in another country. Graduates may need credential evaluation, a relevant master's degree, supervised clinical hours, language requirements and registration/licensing under the destination country's rules.

Ques. What foreign package can a BASLP graduate expect?

Ans. There is no meaningful single “foreign package” because salaries differ greatly by country, licence status, qualification level, experience and employer. Students should compare local professional licensing requirements and entry-level salary data for the specific destination rather than converting an Indian BASLP salary directly.

Ques. What can I study after BASLP?

Ans. Common pathways include M.Sc. Audiology, M.Sc. Speech-Language Pathology, MASLP, PG Diploma in Auditory Verbal Therapy, MPH and later Ph.D. programmes. Postgraduate study can help students move into advanced clinical practice, research, teaching or specialist rehabilitation roles.

Ques. Can a BASLP graduate open a private clinic?

Ans. A graduate must first satisfy applicable professional recognition and CRR registration requirements in India. A private clinic must additionally comply with relevant local establishment, taxation, professional and healthcare regulations.

Ques. Is the BASLP internship compulsory?

Ans. A clinical internship is an integral part of the standard BASLP structure. Institutions such as AIISH and CMC Vellore explicitly include an internship within the four-year programme. Whether an internship carries a stipend varies by institution and should not be assumed.

Three Myths Busted
  • Myth: NEET UG is compulsory for BASLP everywhere.
  • Fact: No. BASLP admission is institution-specific. In 2026, institutions use exams such as AIISH EE, MET, SRMJEEH, AYJNISHD CET and AEEL, while some admit on merit. SRM specifically limits mandatory NEET requirements to designated programmes rather than BASLP.
  • Myth: BASLP is only a speech-therapy course.
  • Fact: It combines Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, covering hearing, speech, language, voice, swallowing and rehabilitation.
  • Myth: Completing BASLP alone automatically permits professional practice anywhere.
  • Fact: In India, an RCI-recognised rehabilitation qualification and applicable Central Rehabilitation Register registration requirements are important for professional practice. Other countries have their own licensing rules.

Types of Admission Routes in India

Admission Route Important Exams / Examples Coverage
Institute-run All-India Entrance Examination AIISH Entrance Examination, AYJNISHD CET Used by specialised speech, hearing and rehabilitation institutes for their own BASLP seats.
University-Level Entrance Examination MET, SRMJEEH UG, AEEL Used by universities such as MAHE, SRMIST and Amrita for applicable allied-health/BASLP admissions.
Institute-Level Entrance/Test CMC Vellore Entrance Test; Sri Ramachandra entrance/interview route Admission depends on the individual institution’s test and/or interview process.
Merit-Based Admission Class 12 merit at Nitte; merit-based route at SGT University Selection is based mainly on qualifying-examination performance and eligibility rather than a national entrance test.
Counselling/Nomination-Based Admission AIISH counselling; university counselling; RIMS state nomination Candidates are allotted seats according to rank/merit or nominated by the competent state authority where applicable.

BASLP Admission Process

  • Qualifying Examination: Complete Class 12/10+2 from a recognised board. Around 50% aggregate is commonly required, although institute rules differ.
  • Eligible Subjects: Physics and Chemistry with Biology or Mathematics are widely accepted. Some institutions permit additional specified science subjects such as Computer Science, Statistics, Electronics or Psychology.
  • Entrance Application: Apply for AIISH EE, MET, CMC Entrance Test, AYJNISHD CET, SRMJEEH UG or AEEL where required.
  • Entrance Result: Entrance-based institutions prepare a rank/merit list from the applicable test.
  • Counselling/Application: Participate in institute/university counselling, preference filling, interview or seat-allotment processes where applicable. AIISH, for example, uses rank-based personal counselling.
  • Merit Route: Some institutions do not require a separate BASLP entrance examination. Nitte uses qualifying-examination merit, while SGT University lists a merit-based selection route.
  • Document Verification: Class 10 and 12 marksheets, identity proof, photographs, category/domicile certificates, where applicable, and other institute-specified documents are verified.
  • Seat Confirmation: Pay the admission/course fee within the allotted deadline to confirm the seat.
  • Special Government Route: RIMS Imphal’s 2026 BASLP admission notice provides a state-nomination route for candidates from specified beneficiary Northeastern states.

Top BASLP Colleges in India

Top Colleges Total Course Fee
CMC Vellore INR 1.4 Lakh
MMC Chennai INR 12 K
PGIMER Chandigarh INR 10.5 K
SMSMC Jaipur INR 63 K
MAHE Manipal INR 9.46 Lakh

Ques. What is a safe score for BASLP entrance exams such as AIISH EE?

Ans. There is no reliable fixed “safe score”. Selection depends on entrance performance, merit rank, category, seat availability and that year's applicant pool. AIISH listed 80 BASLP seats for its 2026 intake, so rank-based competition can vary annually.

Ques. Is BASLP a medical or paramedical course?

Ans. BASLP is more accurately treated as a professional rehabilitation/allied-health programme in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. Professional practice in India falls within the rehabilitation framework regulated by the Rehabilitation Council of India.

Ques. Is RCI registration required after BASLP?

Ans. Students should complete an RCI-recognised qualification and satisfy applicable Central Rehabilitation Register (CRR) registration requirements for professional rehabilitation practice in India. Recognition status should therefore be checked before taking admission.

Ques. What is the difference between BASLP and B.Sc. Audiology?

Ans. BASLP integrates Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, giving exposure to both hearing-related and communication-related disorders. A specialised Audiology programme is more focused on hearing and associated assessment/rehabilitation; recognition and curriculum depend on the specific programme.

Ques. How long is BASLP in India?

Ans. BASLP is generally a 4-year programme including clinical internship. Several institutions describe it as three academic years followed by one year of internship.

Ans. Science is normally required. Physics and Chemistry with Biology or Mathematics are the most common combinations, although some institutes accept additional specified science subjects.

Ques. Can a PCM student apply for BASLP?

Ques. Which entrance exams are important for BASLP 2026 admission?

Ans. Important verified routes include AIISH Entrance Examination, MET, CMC Vellore Entrance Test, AYJNISHD CET, SRMJEEH UG and AEEL. Students should apply only to the exam required by their target institution because BASLP does not use one common entrance test across India.

Ques. BASLP or BPT: which course should a student choose?

Fees and Financial Aid

The yearly fee structure when I joined in 2020 was 20250, and it keeps increasing every year, as of now it is around 30000 per year and the fee is less for SC/ST candidates, my batch mates in this category had to pay 19000. For me, the caution money deposit was 5000, the library fee was 4000 and tution fee was 16500. The registration fee was 800 rupees, and we would have to pay separately for semester exams fee, which would cost around 1500 Rs including memo, it will be more depending upon the number of backlogs one has. After completing internship, we had to pay 1950Rs for our practical examination and our consolidated memo. Overall, the course was very affordable, especially for those under SC/ST category. Those who apply for scholarships will have it reimbursed after the year end.

Course Curriculum Overview

The reason I opted for this course was because of its uniqueness and my desire to learn something different than others. In the world of rehab, not a lot of people give thought. The curriculum prepares you only for exams and a little introduction to handling practical cases, most of the knowledge we learn can be used as a basic understanding of the whole course, it is only when we are out in the field that we get to gain some experience. The course curriculum can improve on adding some real world assignments which the students should do as a part of their final credit score and each assignment should be unique. The frequency of exams is 5-6 months, their difficulty level is moderate, nothing if you prepare well and give your best.

Each student is appointed a mentor. Each mentor has a maximum of three students to ensure equal and appropriate attention is given to all. The mentees can approach their mentors anytime without any hesitation and are always ready to help. So far, there are 7 teaching faculties in the speech language department and 7 teaching faculties in the audiology department. The clinical faculty includes 3 clinical supervisors in audiology and 3 clinical supervisors in speech language pathology. Apart from this, there are two librarians and 4 officer faculty members. Two sessionals are conducted per semester followed by an internal viva and semester end exam which includes the external viva. Most of these are easy to pass.

Faculty

There are 6 to 7 faculties in each semester for each batch , which has around 30 students. For each subject and clinical posting ,there is enough faculty to lead and help us. Most of them are highly approachable too. I have some personal favourite teachers , I like them because , they appreciate our hard works , also make us feel like we did something big. They are very supportive and friendly. So that we can share our ideas also clear our doubts. For some I don't like , because , they have their own favourites and they only appreciate their works . For each semester there is University exam , and in each semester there are another 2 internal exams . Viva is also there in each semester. The exams are pretty tough , so the evaluation. In each semester 4 to 5 students fail. The course curriculum is highly relevant and precise.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course has a very good curriculum. It teaches all the subjects and areas we want to know and learn. Also , there are references put for each topic, so it's easy to learn. Also there are plenty of sites that we can collect information apart from these references. The curriculum prepares us very well in both theoretical and clinical aspects by providing sufficient information and experience option. The final year is the game changer .The current exam time and frequency is very good and acceptable.
