BA Hindi or Bachelor of Arts in Hindi is an undergraduate course in Hindi which aims to study fundamental aspects of Hindi language and literature. For admission to this programme, a student must have passed 10+2 examination with Hindi as one of the subjects. The duration of the program is 3 years in which there are six semesters i.e., two semesters each year.

For admission to BA Hindi, the main eligibility is passing the 12th standard with Hindi as a subject. But most of the universities have started conducting entrance tests lately. In some universities like Delhi University, admission is also given on the basis of cut-off lists.

BA Hindi: What is it about?

BA in Hindi introduces students to both basic and advanced teachings of both Hindi Literature and Language. Students are introduced to the deep nuances and get an understanding of topics like History of Hindi Literature, Prose, One-Act Plays, Translation, Applied Grammar, Linguistics, etc. The course aims at educating students about the rich heritage of Hindi Language and Literature. BA Hindi: Eligibility

There are no particular eligibility criteria for admission into this course. The students just need to have qualified their 10+2 from a school affiliated to a recognized board. The student should have studied Hindi as a compulsory subject in their senior secondary education.

BA Hindi: Admission Process

The general process for admission to the program is through a merit-based cut off list. However, there are a few universities like Banaras Hindu University, which conduct an entrance test for admission to the program.

Selection Process

The selection for admission to the program is merit-based. For direct admission, the student must have scored the percentage declared in the cut off list. In case of the entrance test, the shortlist of candidates is prepared on the basis of performance in the test and some weightage is also given to the marks scored in 10+2 examination.

Higher Studies

After completion of the course, BA Hindi graduates can opt for further studies. An obvious choice is an MA in Hindi Literature. There are other good options such as MA in Journalism (Hindi) or MA in Mass Communication and Journalism with a specialization in Hindi  Patrakarita. They can also pursue a Post-Graduate Diploma in Functional Hindi and Translation or a Post-Graduate Diploma in Hindi Journalism.
