The B.Ed. colleges provide quality training in pedagogy, classroom management, educational psychology, curriculum development, and teaching practice through school internships. Admission to this programme is based on merit or state-level entrance exams (UP B.Ed JEE, MAH B.Ed CET, TS EdCET, AP EdCET, and Bihar B.Ed CET) or a university-specific entrance exam.

It is important to note that the students should choose colleges that are approved by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and affiliated with a recognised university to ensure the validity of their degree and better career opportunities.

The top B.Ed. colleges in India are the University of Delhi, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Jamia Millia Islamia, IGNOU, Aligarh Muslim University, and several state universities. The average fee for a 2-year B.Ed. in India ranges between INR 20K and INR 3 lakh (depending on the institution).

B.Ed Course Highlights

  • Course Name – Bachelor of Education
  • Duration – 2 years (Regular Course); 4 years (Integrated Course); 3 years (B.Ed.-M.Ed. Integrated Duration)
  • Basic Eligibility – Graduation or postgraduation, subject to university requirements
  • Integrated B.Ed. Eligibility – Class 12 or equivalent
  • Admission Route – Merit-based or entrance examination
  • Major Entrance for ITEP – National Common Entrance Test or NCET
  • Course Curriculum – Theory, practical work, pedagogy, school observation and internship

Most Common Route for B.Ed Admission in India

The most common route for students who wish to pursue a B.Ed. is through merit, as there is no national level test for admission to this course. Students can apply to this 2-year programme after the completion of a bachelor's degree (any stream).

Class 12 - Bachelor’s degree such as BA, BSc or BCom – B.Ed merit admission or entrance - Two-year B.Ed - TET, CTET or teacher recruitment examination

For admission to this programme, graduates must select a teaching or pedagogy subject connected to the subject studied during graduation or postgraduate studies. For example, a graduate who studied history may choose social science pedagogy, while a BSc mathematics graduate may choose mathematics pedagogy. Universities may require candidates to have studied the chosen teaching subject for a minimum number of marks or credits during their qualifying degree. State-level admission systems include B.Ed. CET, B.Ed. JEE, PTET and state centralised allotment processes.

B.Ed Eligibility Criteria in India

Candidates should normally have one of the following qualifications from a recognised university:

  • Bachelor’s degree in arts, science, social science, commerce or another accepted discipline
  • Master’s degree in an accepted discipline
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technology with science and mathematics specialisation

Note: The eligibility criteria and minimum marks requirements may vary by institution.

Ques. Why Study B.Ed?

Ans. B.Ed. is a professional teacher education programme that prepares graduates with the knowledge, teaching skills, classroom management techniques, and practical training required to become qualified educators. This course is the most popular among graduates who wish to teach in schools or work in the education sector. A B.Ed. also provides government job opportunities and makes them eligible to apply for teaching positions in Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, state government schools, and other public institutions after qualifying relevant teacher eligibility tests.

Along with job opportunities, it also provides opportunities for higher education. Graduates can pursue an M.Ed., Ph.D., educational research, teacher training, or academic administration for further specialisation and career advancement.

Ques. Is B.Ed a good choice for pursuing a teaching career abroad?

Ans. Yes, a B.Ed can open teaching opportunities abroad, though additional certifications are often required. Countries like Canada, the UK, Australia, and Gulf nations recognize B.Ed but may demand exams or licenses. Certifications like TESOL, TEFL, or CELTA are highly recommended for teaching English internationally. International schools in India and abroad also prefer B.Ed graduates due to their structured training in pedagogy and child psychology. Moreover, a B.Ed combined with postgraduate degrees increases chances of securing high-paying academic roles abroad. Therefore, B.Ed serves as a strong foundation for those aiming at global teaching careers.

Ques. What exams should I prepare for after B.Ed to become a government teacher?

Ans. After completing B.Ed, students must appear for teacher eligibility and recruitment exams to qualify for government teaching jobs. The most important are CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) and State TETs, which make candidates eligible for teaching in government schools. For central-level jobs, KVS (Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan), NVS (Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti), and DSSSB are crucial recruitment exams. Army Public Schools also conduct AWES PGT/TGT/PRT exams. For higher education, pursuing NET/JRF after postgraduation and a B.Ed. is beneficial. Preparing for these exams ensures access to stable, well-paid, and respected teaching careers in government institutions.

Teaching Subject Requirement

Many institutions require candidates to select a pedagogy that was studied during graduation or postgraduate studies. Common pedagogy areas include:

Pedagogy category Relevant qualifying subjects
Languages English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Punjabi, Urdu or regional language
Social Science History, Geography, Economics, Political Science, Sociology
Science Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Biological Science
Mathematics Mathematics or an accepted equivalent
Commerce Commerce, generally subject to university rules
Home Science Home Science or an accepted related qualification

B.Ed admission can broadly take place through four routes.

Admission route Selection basis Commonly used by
State entrance examination Entrance score and counselling State universities and affiliated colleges
CUET PG CUET PG score followed by university counselling Participating central and other universities
University entrance test University’s own examination Selected public and private universities
Merit or direct admission Graduation marks and document verification Selected universities and private colleges

Ques. Can B.Ed graduates work in EdTech companies?

Ans. Yes, with the rise of digital education, EdTech companies actively hire B.Ed graduates for their expertise in pedagogy. They can work as curriculum designers, instructional content developers, trainers, and online educators. Many platforms prefer B.Ed graduates because they bring practical classroom knowledge, lesson planning skills, and subject expertise. They may also contribute to designing interactive learning modules, video lessons, and educational apps. Salaries in EdTech roles are often higher compared to traditional teaching, ranging from INR 5 – 9 LPA depending on role and experience. Thus, B.Ed graduates have excellent opportunities in the booming EdTech sector.

Ques. Is it necessary to do M.Ed after B.Ed?

Ans. While M.Ed is not compulsory after B.Ed, it is highly beneficial for those aspiring to progress in academics and research. B.Ed prepares graduates for school-level teaching, while M.Ed opens doors for lecturer, professor, researcher, and educational administrator roles. It also helps in career advancement, salary growth, and eligibility for higher-level teaching positions. Those aiming for leadership roles in schools, colleges, or universities should definitely consider pursuing M.Ed. Additionally, M.Ed is often required for competitive exams related to higher education jobs. Hence, though optional, M.Ed adds significant value to a B.Ed graduate’s career.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course curriculum of the college is very good and well-structured. Teaching at the college is excellent, and students are taught various skills such as tailoring and gardening. Different types of co-curricular activities are conducted, through which student-teachers are taught many useful and practical skills. Gardening is taught, and co-curricular activities help students learn extra work beyond academics. There is NSS work and social work as well. Overall, the curriculum is very good, and the teachers there fully focus on ensuring that students stay focused on their curriculum and give their best.

Faculty

The college faculty is very good. All the teachers and staff are very helpful and have a supportive nature; they help everyone a lot. However, there are a few people who have joined the college through connections, because of which they are not able to help everyone equally and sometimes become a bit selfish. Overall, everything is very good. The examination pattern of the college is also very good. The year is divided in such a way that exams are conducted once a year—once in the first year and again in the second year, which is considered the final result.

Fees and Financial Aid

The yearly fee structure of my course is simple and affordable as compared to many other institutes . The total course fees for one two is approximately 1 lakh. This amount includes tuition fees and other fees . The tuition fees is 25000 per 6 month which means 50000 per year and the total of 100000 for whole course. The fees paid currently is per 6 month and their no major increase in the fee structure. Compare to my fees sum of my batchmates pay higher amount Depending on their category and quota. For example student under the management quota pay around 150000 per year which is actually 50000 more than what I paid Scholarships and financial aids are also available in my college

Campus Life

Many events occurs in 6 month duration or even 3 month duration. 90% of the books are available in the library and if the books are not available then we have to tell the teacher so that they can get it available for us and they get it available. The extra curricular activity about sport is also good

Faculty in school of education are 5-6 and Our Head of Department. B.Ed 2024-26 batch has 26 students. My fav faculty is Dr. Sakshi Sharma as she's the one who would listen to your problem and give best advice and Deepak sir also He's a very cool and nice teacher and always tries to support us. One thing that happens bad here is our HOD changes every 2-3 months for no reason and our communication gap do increases with them. The clg has midsem and endsem as well for every semseter. The course is moderate and you need to study at your own for better understanding.

Internships Opportunities

The faculty to student ratio is 1:40 not so ideal but, the overall staff is very approachable teachers support and guides student althrough the curicullum. Mr.Shailendra sir and Miss. Sashi chahal ma'am respond timely to all of our doubts patiently. Sir helps us in getting our assignments done and helps us in collecting the resources and Sashi ma'am provided us extended timelines for assisgnemnt submission. There is no such faculty member to be disliked or who is not student supportive. In my course Bachelor of Education the College conduct yearly examinations. The exams are not so though if you have studied well and focused on your assignment. Some student do get failed if they have not attended practical exmainiation and final examination but they get the chance to give re-exam next year.

Fees and Financial Aid

Registration fees for Bachelor of Education is Rs.5000 Tuition fees for the two year programm is Rs.48000. So the complete fees for the program stood at Rs.53000. It was very close to my house that's the only reason I took admission in this college 1st year of my college was fine but after the Covid and lockdown the situation of college got really worst People did not get placements and the ones who did they had to sit at home for more than 6 months About the curriculum and teaching - this college needs to change their staff and hire people who can actually teach something to students We were giving open book exams after Covid and that's definitely not very good way for preparing for exams where students have music plugged in their ear and just copying everything

A good strategy, a lot of planning, focused work, confidence as well as a strong belief in yourself, are required.Read more
