    B Pharmacy (B Pharma) Course Full Form, Admission Process, Eligibility, Top Colleges

    B Pharmacy (Bachelor of Pharmacy) is a job-oriented undergraduate degree for science students who want to make a career in the pharmacy sector. BPharm course duration is of 4 years with 8 semesters. 

    The basic eligibility to take admission is minimum 55-60% in Class XII with science subjects (PCM, PCB or PCMB). Core subjects include Pharmaceuticals, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacognosy

    RUHS Pharmacy Forms (BPharma) will be available until July 13, 2020. 

    This course is popular because of diverse career options in pharmaceutical firms, biotechnology firms, medical sectors, private sectors, and public sectors. Many drug research companies prefer students with BPharm degree than D Pharma (Diploma in Pharmacy). 

    There are more than 800 AICTE approved pharmacy colleges in India providing both degree and diploma courses, with total intake of around 1 Lakh students. B Pharmacy course can also be pursued either full time or part-time.

    The average B Pharma fees in private colleges is around INR 5 Lakhs, and under INR 4 Lakhs for government colleges across India.

    B Pharm qualification leads to a variety of job options like Drug Safety Associate, Clinical Research Associate, Pharmacovigilance, R&D Scientist, etc. Average starting salary is around INR 3-4 LPA.

    B Pharmacy admission process is done on the basis of performance based on one of the entrance examinations. Few private colleges like Amity University take admission on the basis of marks obtained in Class XII (Science).

    Lateral admission to B Pharma is also offered to students with D Pharmacy (Diploma in Pharmacy) qualification. Lateral entry system allows students to get admission into the second year BPharm directly. Hence, in 3 years students can earn a BPharm degree, instead of 4 years (normal entry).

    Students must fulfill one of the following criteria for B Pharm admission:

    • Class XII with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Mathematics (Basic BPharm eligibility)
    • Completed D Pharm course from a PCI (Pharmacy Council of India) approved institution. This is lateral admission in the second year of B Pharmacy course.
    • Through entrance exams like MET, BITSAT, NIPER JEE, KCET etc.

    Apart from direct BPharm admission on the basis of Class XII results, many entrance examinations are there in government as well as private colleges for BPharm admission.

    Ans. No, Biology is not compulsory for BPharm. The basic eligibility is 55% in class 12th with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and/or Biology. Students who have studied maths in class 12 can also study BPharm.
