Ques. Should one choose CMI B.Sc in mathematics and computer science over CSE at BITS, Hyderabad, NIT/IIIT Allahabad , IIEST Shibpur or Jadavpur University?

● Top Answer By Shekhar Suman on 02 Mar 21

Ans. To choose between any of the two, you need to be clear about your page of interest first. Are you interested in theoretical Computer Science and Mathematics or the technical CS&E offered at engineering colleges? However, having friends at CMI, I will be able to point out the pros and cons associated with the institution: Pros: The biggest advantage you can get here is that you can for Ph.D. immediately after BSc without doing MSc. That’s the reason more than 80% of the whole batch of CMI opts for Ph.D. By this, you can understand the rigor of the course and its focus on research. If you do not want to go for Ph.D., you can take up higher-level MSc courses in the institute itself if you have completed the pre-requisites. Cons Honestly, nobody really knows about CMI in India except the Maths fraternity. Even my friend, who is now an alumnus of CMI, came to know about it only when he was in class 12.  Don’t get surprised when your friends and relatives will go blank when you tell them that you attend CMI. However, on the other hand, if you go to any of these top engineering colleges and for a CSE program you can definitely get a good placement of 5+ lakhs.Read more

Ques. Is an integrated MSc in mathematics and computing in BIT Mesra a good option?

● Top Answer By Sahil Sachdeva on 16 Feb 21

Ans. Mathematics and Computing is a stream that contains concepts of mathematics merged with sophisticated computer science. It is evident that computer science fundamentals are dependent on applied mathematical skills, but in the present syllabus for M.Sc in mathematics and computing, things are not as they used to be. The table below gives a brief overview of the integrated course in BIT Mesra. Course introduced in 2011 Total Fees (5 years) Rs.6.6 Lakhs Median Salary per annum Rs.4.8 Lakhs Average Salary per annum Rs.6 Lakhs (approx) Highest Salary per annum Rs.11 Lakhs Placement percentage 80% (approx) Key highlights: According to the present syllabus, fundamentals of Data Structure, Computational Statistics for AI and Machine Learning, Algorithms, etc. are not well developed for computer science graduates due to their weak background in mathematics.  According to surveys, most students in mathematics don’t have enough concepts built in Information Systems, Computer Architecture, Data Mining, HPSC, Numerical Analysis, Cryptography, and Network Security. These concepts are essential for software design, simulation, and analysis in engineering economics, military, aerospace, etc. The integrated course in Mathematics and computing is the best bridging stream in this scenario, providing an all-in-one knowledge-based syllabus on both mathematical concepts and computer science technologies. Both domains are covered equally in Mathematics and computing, and students can’t choose any one of them in the curriculum. BIT Mesra is a constantly developing institute in this stream, and the students are touching the peak of success through research and placements. Several research projects of avionics, robotics, aerospace, etc have seen the involvement of students from this stream. The placement of maths and computing has a major improvement throughout the years. Having almost negligible count, in the beginning, it has now almost reached an 80% placement rate, with several MNCs offering decent salary packages ranging from 3 LPA to 11 LPA. Overall, the Mathematics and computing stream, though comparatively newer to the institute, is now under a tremendous rate of progress and is worth opting for.Read more

Ques. What is the syllabus for the BHU UET BSc in Maths (Hons)?

● Top Answer By Supriya Sarkar on 20 Jan 21

Ans. It is hard to decide on any particular book for qualifying for the exam. Though, students must have good command over their 10+2 syllabus. Students preparing for JEE or medical indeed have an added advantage as some of the questions are tougher than the 10+2 level.  Here are a few of the recommendations based on each subject: PHYSICS:  The book recommended for physics is HC Verma. It is more than enough for covering the physics syllabus. Students may skip the tough questions and problems.  The concept should be very clear among the students for solving the questions and problems.  Numericals are mostly average level, so you won’t need HC Verma’s level of intelligence to solve these. You can also opt for reference books recommended for the 10+2 syllabus. MATHEMATICS  You should know about the relations and functions along with their notations. The recommended book for mathematics is RD Sharma.  Focus more on complex numbers as it is the second most important chapter. It is indeed regarded as the toughest part of the paper.  You shouldn’t only rely upon 10+2 books as it may hamper their chances. The previous year’s papers need to be solved accordingly for better preparation.  The binary system should also be looked upon as two questions come from it every year.   CHEMISTRY This is one of the easiest and most scoring subjects as there is no need of referring to any other book except the 10+2 level reference books.  With the help of reference books from 10+2, you can easily score 100+ out of 150 with the least effort. Though, with good efforts, you can achieve a 125+ score which will further boost your chances.  Mentioned below are certain facts about BHU UET.  Conducting Body Banaras Hindu University Exam duration 2 hours 30 minutes  No. of questions and Marks  150 and 450 respectively Availability of seats   8000 (approximately) Courses available B.A. (Hons), B. Com (Hons), LLB (Hons), LLB, B. P. Ed, BPA, BFA, B. Voc., B. Ed,  Eligibility Criteria 50% in Boards Students should go through last year’s questions which will give them an overview of the nature of the questions. No matter which book students refer to, they should be able to solve last year's questions.Read more

Ques. How tough is BHU's UET BSc Maths?

● Top Answer By Komal Yadav on 16 Jan 21

Ans. The entrance for BHU’s UET BSc Maths is tough but not in terms of the level of questions. It can be cracked with proper planning and strategy. If you prepared for JEE Main then you can easily score high marks in BHU’s entrance. There are three things which you need to do religiously for this entrance – Practice previous year's question papers. The more you practice, the more you will get acquainted with the type of questions, and also your speed of solving the questions will increase. The total time allotted to complete the question paper is 150 minutes and the duration is two and a half hours. Hence, the student needs to time out your sections skillfully. Assert one minute or even less than that to each question if you intend to complete the entire question paper within the estimated time. For this, the only thing you can do is practice. Set a timer and solve as many questions, correctly, as possible. H.C. Verma is a recommended book for this entrance. Solve the problem till you attain proficiency. The questions are designed in a way that examines the students' basic knowledge strength. If you are familiar with the previous year's question papers then you can solve the questions swiftly without much difficulty. The target score should be 190 and above. If you manage to score above 190 then the chances of getting an admission increases by a considerable margin.Read more

Ques. Among JADAVPUR University, ST XAVIER'S AND CALCUTTA University, which is best to pursue B. Sc. in mathematics Honors?

● Top Answer By Aniket Atul Mahulikar on 11 Jan 21

Ans. Among the three mentioned universities, Jadavpur University is the best to pursue BSc in mathematics Honours without any doubt. The classes are assured regularly and rigorous for those who desire to have a future in mathematics; there should be no doubt in selecting JU.  Comparison: (Winning Institution - Jadavpur University) St. Xaviers became a university recently. A BSc degree from JU holds more value than a bachelor’s degree from St. Xaviers.  Jadavpur University was ranked 196th in Asia by The World University Ranking 2020. The faculty at JU is top-notch. The syllabus adopted by JU is of advantage if you want to pursue higher studies after your degree. You will have better exposure at Jadavpur through regular seminars. Attending seminars delivered by guest faculty from distinguished National institutes, and your seniors pursuing masters and Ph.D. will make an immense difference. If you are choosing St. Xaviers because of the campus, you should visit the Jadavpur University campus.  The classes are regular, and JU follows a rigorous pedagogy. The political environment people talk about is quite exaggerated. If you don't get involved in campus politics, it is never going to bother you.  Jadavpur University contributes much more than just a degree that gives you quality education, which is not restricted to classroom learning. They make sure the students turn into the person they can be and gives them the confidence that no other college in Kolkata does.Read more
