There are several disadvantages of the Aeronautical Engineering department in the institute, and some of them are listed below. Ans. For students in Aeronautical Engineering, there are very limited opportunities in India for graduates. There are several instances in which students, even after interning from top organizations and universities, fail to frame a proper career in Aeronautical Engineering.  One of my friends graduated from Acharya Institute of Technology in Aeronautical Engineering, and he was considered to be the topper of the batch. He did a paid internship from Canada, which was organized by the college itself. He went to several renowned places like Bombardier’s engine manufacturing unit, etc during the internship period of 3 months. Even after such an opportunity, he failed to achieve a proper career in Aeronautics. He was a hard-working and skilled candidate but landed in a mechanical designing firm with a low-paying job. Industry Trends: In India, the market in Aeronautics is not yet established properly. Though Aeronautical Engineering is an excellent stream, one must have to be 6-7 years ahead to grasp a proper opportunity. The only chances of employment for graduates in Aeronautical Engineering are the Indian Air Force, some moderately operational airline companies with a small number of maintenance staff, and finally, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. Candidates who have completed master’s degrees from foreign institutes or IITs in Aeronautics have a relatively higher chance of getting jobs. Companies like Boeing India, UTC, Honeywell, Airbus India, Sirkosky, Tata Strategic Defense, etc recruit such candidates. Ans. Here are some points that will hopefully give you an idea about it. Aerospace Engineering has four sub-divisions which are as follows: Aerodynamics is an extension of fluid mechanics. Controls and Dynamics is used for navigation purposes. Structures is all about the mechanics of materials. Propulsion is related to aerodynamics and therefore, a good understanding of aerodynamics will be really helpful. The department of Aerospace Engineering at IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, and IIT Madras follow a similar course structure. Rather than focusing on this, you should look at factors like academic curriculum, college life, accessibility, and placements. Since one of my cousins is an alumnus at IIT Kharagpur, here are some pros and cons of the same. Pros Great campus No academic pressure Friendly and motivating faculty. You will definitely find some exceptions though. Rolls Royce, Airbus, Honeywell, GE, etc., are some companies that recruit in the core sector. Students opting for further studies like MS or Ph.D. usually go to institutions like the University of Texas, Texas A, and M, Austin, etc., for the same. There is a project called the Boeing Project which allows you to fabricate all the parts of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), in a group of 5. If you clear the selection procedure, you will get a scholarship up to Rs. 10,000 for a year. Cons Not a good town to live in because there is hardly anything available. Issue of accessibility Since the campus is spread across a large area, it might be a problem for those who wake up late and have to travel 2-3 km for class. Not all students get placed in the core sector. The current situation of aerospace engineering is not that good in our country but it will change for good with the setting up of campus by Airbus in Hyderabad and expansion of base to India by Honeywell. Ans. One of my elder brothers has completed his B.E degree in Aerospace from BESU, Shibpur.  As per him, Aerospace Engineering is the youngest Department and lacks of proper infrastructure. He also mentioned the poor planning, and except for some professors, other teachers do not have even the knowledge about what they are teaching. However, professors with proper subject knowledge are just awesome; rather, they are the coolest professors in this institute.  Additionally, the positive thing about this institute is that all the professors have a logical mindset. They are always prepared to do any sort of experimentation related to the course. They are always ready to implement any practicable criticism that may approach their way to research. Moreover, the term “worthwhile” is much related to campus recruitment. Considering this, my elder brother honestly told me that if a student wants to engage with Aerospace Engineering, it is better than going for a higher study. This is so because the institute does not provide any job opportunity after completing M.Tech. Aerospace Engineering is a new stream in India and if you wants to establish in this field, then it is better to try foreign universities. It is because India still not have a good infrastructure for the development of its own aerospace industry. Besides, the private organisations that offer a job in India are comparatively very low than Russia, Germany and France. The only sole organisation is Hindustan Aeronautics, and it does not have any competitors.
