Eligibility for B.Tech in Big Data Analytics

Candidates having qualified 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry & Maths as main subjects with a minimum aggregate score of 60% in classes X and XII are eligible to apply for the course. This percentage criterion, however, may vary across institutes.

B.Tech in Big Data Analytics: Admission Process

Admission to the course is made possible by means of any of the following 2 ways:

1. Examination Pathway: Admissions through UPESEAT for up to 80% of the seats. This mode of admission requires a JEE Main qualification besides a minimum aggregate score of 60% in at the Higher & Senior Secondary levels (classes X and XII) with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics as the main subjects at the Senior Secondary level. JEE Mains cut off is announced after the declaration of the JEE Mains results.

2. Non- Examination Pathway: Admissions through Board Merit / JEE Mains Score for up to 20% of the sea. This mode of admission requires a minimum aggregate score of 80% at the Higher & Senior Secondary levels (classes X and XII) with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics as the main subjects 80% at the Senior Secondary level.

Admission is based on the round of university- level counselling which is based on the score obtained by the candidate in the UPES Engineering Aptitude Test (UPESEAT).

B.Tech in Big Data Analytics: Career Prospects

Web crawlers and in-house Data Scientists are needed today in almost every industry, for purposes like collection of data from internal and publicly available data sources.

Adequate skills and experience are needed in industries for tasks like machine- learning, computing and design of algorithms to create customized ETL tools to extract data from multiple sources/ IT platforms and to load them directly to data structures hosted in the cloud. Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Mongo DB etc. are crucial for integrating both structured and unstructured data for clients to derive accurate insights from a given comprehensive set of data points.

Also, in view of the need to improve the veracity of the data fed into a big data platform, Big Data tools are needed to cleanse, standardize, and map data from various silos, both internal and external. Data- categorization, customization and noise- removal from relevant data feeds are all managed and executed by Big Data engineers.

Successful graduates of the course are hired lucratively in areas such as Design Engineering, Computing/ IT Consulting and Solution- Developing in capacities such as System/ Network Administrators or IT Managers. This programme trains professionals to contribute to innovative hardware and software design of computer systems.

Some of the most popular firms that hire successful graduates of the specialization are Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, Infosys, TCS, HCL, Accenture etc., and in capacities such as Computer Engineer, Software developer, Software Tester, Network Administrator, Database Administrator, Database Designer, Database Operator, Website Designer, Website Developer, Mobile Application Developer, Robotics Expert, Software Analyst etc.

Graduates interested in pursuing higher studies in the discipline may go for courses like M. Tech, MS, ME or Ph. D in India or abroad.
