The average fees for the course ranges between INR 2 to 8 Lacs for the four years.

Admission to this course in most of the engineering colleges in India is done through one of the entrance tests conducted at national and state level.

The course B. Tech. Bioinformatics is a combination of Biology, Computer Science, and Information Technology. It focuses on the information analysis and management in biotechnology. There are various career options and jobs for B. Tech. Bioinformatics graduates. They can find jobs in sectors like biotechnology, pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences, research institutions and hospitals and healthcare companies.

B.Tech. Bioinformatics: What is it about?

The course is about the combination of information technology and biology to understand the working of the human body. The course structure of the course is designed such that the students are taught all the required concepts of the bioinformatics through basic classroom teaching and through practical classes in the laboratories to gain practical knowledge and application of the concepts in real life situations.

B.Tech. Bioinformatics course syllabus has various topics which are covered by the B. Tech. degree, these courses are from the field of Biology, Information Technology, Computers and Mathematics and Statistics. The various fields make this course an interdisciplinary and yet related.

The benefits of this course are that a student understands the basics of engineering along with specialization in the field of Biotechnology and information technology. All these courses are in popular demand in the contemporary times and hence, they open a lot of scope for career prospects.

What are the skills required for B.Tech. Bioinformatics course? Who should opt for the course?

Any student who has a bent of mind and wishes to have a career in biology and yet wants to remain in the engineering sector, this course is best. The course has many vocational benefits as it provides on-campus placements to many and there are a lot of career options after pursuing this course.

After this course, one can also go for higher studies as there are many research institutes which are conducting various researchers in the field to bring out new advances in bioinformatics and cancer cures. The contemporary world needs these advancements and hence this course is best for someone who wishes to contribute to the society.

The duration of the course is same as any other bachelor of technology course. It is a four-year course divided into eight semesters. The semesters are divided in a way that the student is prepared for all the aspects of bioinformatics step by step.

Where to Study

The course is being common and popular among the students these days. Still, there are a very few number of universities/colleges which offer this course and here is a list of a few of those universities-

Eligibility Of the Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Bioinformatics)

The minimum eligibility for the course is that a candidate must have had Physics, Chemistry and Biology as their subjects in class XII and must have scored a minimum of 50% aggregate.

How to Get Admission in Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Bioinformatics)

The general admission process to B. Tech. Bioinformatics is through an entrance test either conducted by the institutes offering the course or through the national level entrance exams. The pattern of the entrance exam is that of multiple choice type questions from the basic knowledge of Physics, Chemistry and Biology from the class 10+2.

The admission to Shoolini University is also granted to students with non-medical background, that is, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The admission to non-medical students is done through either JEE or any state or national level of entrance test, and admission to medical students is through PMT or equivalent entrance test of any state or national level.

Selection Process:

The students are supposed to fill the admission form available online usually once the results for the 10+2 are declared. Then the candidates are supposed to appear for the entrance exam. Once the entrance exam process is completed, the colleges issue a merit list which short lists candidates on the basis of their performance in the entrance exam and are called for counseling. During the counseling process, a candidate has to present, before the admission committee, the academic certificates.

Lateral Entry:

The course has a provision for lateral entry too in some of the universities. The minimum requirement for lateral entry is either a diploma or a B.Sc. Degree.
