To be eligible for B.Tech. Geo Sciences Engineering course a student has to either give an entrance exam of the respective college they want to study in or have to pass in exams like JEE Main for the admission. Candidate must have cleared 10+2 exam or equivalent in science stream from a recognized board of education.
The admission process starts with the commencement of entrance exams after the final exams of senior secondary in the month of May. Students are required to apply either through the online portals of individual colleges if available or through offline mode. Many colleges conduct their own entrance exam followed by centralized counselling which are to be cleared by the student seeking admission.
Various universities conduct their individual entrance exams usually in the month of May. UPES conducts UPESEAT, Lovely Professional University conducts LPUNEST, IITs have their cut off based on the score of JEE Advanced. The entrance exam conducted are based on question asked from the field of mathematics, physics, chemistry, english language comprehension, current affairs and general awareness. The tests are usually MCQ based which also have negative marking from 0.25 to 1 mark for each wrong answers.
The selection is based on the marks bored by a student in the entrance exam. Weightage is also given to the marks they have obtained in their secondary and senior secondary exams. The entrance exams are followed by either counselling or interviews. They are also having certain weightage from 10-20% in the admission.
