    Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) in Mainframe Technology is an undergraduate engineering course. This Information Technology course deals with the study of mainframe technologies, and lays a sound foundation in the subject of mainframe application development. A mainframe, also known as ‘big iron’, is defined as a high- performance computer used for large scale computing purposes which require availability and security.

    The course involves the study of the history and basics of the Mainframe, Mainframe Hardware, Mainframe networking, Virtualization, z/OS, Parallel Sysplex and also covers application development modules and open source technologies. IBM emphasizes that their mainframe technology has dominated the IT server market and is used to serve distributed users and smaller servers in a computing network. UPES University and Galgotias University provide this course in collaboration with IBM, thereby making it more industry- oriented.

    The minimum eligibility for this 4-year long course is the successful completion of Class XII/Higher Secondary Examination with 50% marks or above in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry as major subjects in the qualifying examination.

    Selection in engineering colleges for this field is based on either JEE Main All India Rank or State or university level entrance examinations such as UPESEAT by UPES University, Dehradun. Candidates are shortlisted for the counselling based on their performance in the entrance examinations.

    For B.     Admission Process for B. Tech in Mainframe Technology

    Admission to B. Tech in Mainframe Technology is done strictly through entrance examinations (national/State level/university level). A few engineering institutes provide direct admission to eligible candidates on the basis of performance in the Class XII examination or any other qualifying examination. Shortlisted students need to go through the counselling once they successfully clear the entrance examination or meet the eligibility criteria.

    • UPESEAT Entrance Exam – University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun conducts its own aptitude based entrance examination for admission into B. Tech programs. Last date for the submission of online applications is in the first week of May and the exam is also conducted in May. For Board Merit based selection, a minimum score of 80% is compulsory at Higher & Senior Secondary level (10th & 12th) and a minimum score of 80% in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics at Senior Secondary level (12th class) is needed.
    • UPTU 2020 (AKTU or UPSEE) – UP State Entrance Examination (UPTU), also referred to as UPSEE or AKTU, is a State level entrance examination conducted by the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), formerly known as Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU). The exam is conducted in the month of April for admission into undergraduate technical courses such as B. Tech, B. Arch, B. Pharm, MBA, MCA, to name a few. Students can get admissions in all the technical institutions affiliated to AKTU, UP.  Application forms are available in January and the last date to submit the online forms including the payment is in March.
    • Galgotias Engineering Entrance Examination (GEEE) – GEEE is conducted by the Galgotias University for admissions to B. Tech and integrated B. Tech + MBA programs. The exam is conducted between May and June every year. Candidates should have cleared 10+2 with at least 50% marks with PCM (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology) as compulsory subjects, from a recognized educational Board. Application form is available on the official website of the university from January onwards. GEEE is a pen and paper based objective type exam with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry as the main subjects.
    • Hindustan University Entrance Examinations (HITSEEE) – HITSEEE stands for Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science Entrance Examination, which is conducted in the month of April for admission to engineering and architecture courses. Application forms are available from January onwards and the last date for submitting filled in application forms is in the 2nd week of April. Candidates can fill the application form in any one of offline or online mode. The online entrance examination is an objective type multiple choice test. Selection of candidates is based on merit in the HITSEEE test.
