Ans. One of my friends who used to be a student in Jamshedpur says that all hostels of NIT Jamshedpur have equal value. The faculty is also experienced and good at teaching as far as the academic background is concerned. The faculty takes enthusiasm in its teaching and is also energetic. One of the teachers was not only the associate Dean but also the chief warden at the same time. There was also talk that he might just be the next Dean of the students’ welfare department. The cultural students, technical festival, sports meet, and alumni meet consist of a lot of students from the metallurgy. ‘Technica’ is also a popular event for metallurgy students. There are also technical teams like Daksh, Drift, Phoenix, etc where you can work in. Professors & Faculty of NIT Jamshedpur: The professors impart decent knowledge to the students about their expertise core subjects. So, scoring marks is not a problem here. Some of the professors are adopting methods to revise the significant topics again and again. It decreases the workload of students. They can easily focus the first two years on pointing out their areas of interest and later two years in achieving their targets for their desired specialization. Ans. Some people might choose this college only on the basis of reputation and low fees. They might not be aware of the branch. But this branch has very limited employment opportunities, given the market condition of the manufacturing sector.  The employment sector is restricted mainly to steel and other alloy manufacturing plants. Some other areas are the material testing labs in automobile industries such as Indian Oil, HAL, NALCO, etc.  One more thing that you should keep in mind is that the conditions in steel plants, as well as aluminum plants, are very unfavorable. The package and growth opportunities that you get are not as remunerative as the ones you get in the service sector such as IT. Ques. Which is better CSE in thapar or ceramic in IIT BHU ?

Ans. Ceramic Engineering and CSE are two completely different fields of study. CSE offers better placement and packages as compared to Ceramic and though both these institutes are well-reputed the IIT tag offers certain advantages. So it’s quite difficult to choose an institute over the other.  In terms of internships, since Thapar is a private college, they have their own standards regarding schedules. In the internship session of 2019, almost 1200 students got placed. The internship session of IIT BHU includes many big names such as Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, Morgan Stanley, etc. In terms of placements, IIT BHU has performed very well. In 2019, the highest package offered was 1.03 Crore per year in domestic and four students received international offers of 1.53 Crore. Whereas, Thapar received the highest package of 39 LPA, which is quite low but the average packages of both colleges are almost similar. IIT BHU placement statistics show that 171 students chose core companies. Thapar has better hostel and mess facilities whereas IIT BHU’s campus is spread over 400 acres, which is 150 acres more than Thapar’s. In terms of connectivity, IIT BHU has better connectivity and therefore can be assumed to have more exposure. Both colleges are good and have their own advantages. Ans. If the branch is not your first priority than between ceramic engineering in IIT BHU and chemical engineering at Jadavpur University you should give preference to ceramic engineering in IIT BHU. Being an IIT, it provides a large number of opportunities and better exposure. If you have an interest in extracurricular activities IIT BHU gives you a platform. Also, in IIT BHU sports, and hostel facilities are better when compared with Jadavpur University. Although, IIT BHU has a strong alumni base getting placed in the ceramic branch is difficult but there is always an option of non-core companies. And the hallmark of IIT has certain perks. Jadavpur University’s chemical engineering is one of the oldest branches in Jadavpur; the labs are equipped with modern machines which will give a better environment to work in. Research options are also good at Jadavpur University. Talking about placements, they are quite good for chemical engineering.  If you seek better opportunities irrespective of the branch then you should go for IIT BHU. IIT BHU also gives an option of branch change after completion of your first year. This branch change is done on the bases of what your CGPA is after the second semester.
