Ques. Which is better, production engineering or metallurgy engineering at PEC Chandigarh?

● Top Answer By Jahnvi Hirandani on 04 May 21

Ans. I have friends studying production engineering at PEC Chandigarh and they have come across that it is somewhat similar to mechanical engineering. You can expect a lot of mechanics and physics, however, some subjects differ as you get into the core. Coming to the question, it totally depends on your pool of interest whether you are into mechanics and production or metallurgy. Here are two major factors you might consider before choosing any of them Production Engineering can get you jobs and packages similar to mechanical engineering. Also, it is a versatile branch where you can learn about manufacturing, operation, maintenance, etc. If you are planning to get into research work after completion of engineering, then you must choose Metallurgy. It has broader research scopes than production engineering. At the end of the day, follow your passion and know where you can invest these 4 years of your life. Nevertheless, if getting a job is your goal then go for production engineering. On the other hand, metallurgy engineering can open doors for good research work if you are interested in doing so.Read more

Ques. Which is better, ECE at VIT Vellore or metallurgy at PEC Chandigarh?

● Top Answer By Khushi Sharma on 04 May 21

Ans. My brother had the option of VIT for CSE on merit still he chose PEC metallurgy. There are various reasons as to why he took that decision: VIT is more expensive. Even if he had gone on merit, it would have cost him much more than PEC. Placements in core companies in ECE are negligible. You can sit for IT companies, but they pay less to ECE undergraduates than CSE counterparts. If you are a north Indian, culturally VIT might be different and might take time to adjust. Metallurgy is an undervalued branch in India; many of my seniors are pursuing MS from Germany, the United States, and France, and some have gone to IIMs and FMS with strong credentials. One of our seniors received a PPO of 15 lakhs, which is more than many students from elite branches. You can choose to upgrade, but you'll quickly realize that it's not that simple because the grading criteria favors those who are less deserving (no offense). Whether you accept it or not, those who claim that placement in metallurgy is poor (as it is in all branches except CS/IT) are correct. Placements in the core are hard to come by. Only 4000 people in GATE are from metallurgy, whereas there are 1.8 lakh from CSE and 2.1 lakh from Mechanical, implying that the probability of you getting a PSU is greater than that of a mechanical engineer. Categories ECE at VIT Vellore Metallurgy at PEC Chandigarh Course Fee 7.83 lakh 6.39 lakh Highest CTC 21 LPA 17.75 LPA Average CTC 9.3 LPA 7.5 LPA Recruiting Companies Deloitte, Bank of America, IBM, HCL, etc. ZS Associates, Amazon, JP Morgan, JSW Steels, etc. I personally believe VIT is overrated because a friend who did not even pass mains received 2000 AIR in VITEEE. In the CBSE 2016 boards, he scored 78 percent, which was below average.Read more

Ques. Which should I pursue between mechanical at UIET Chandigarh and metallurgical engineering at PEC Chandigarh?

● Top Answer By Shanaya Kapoor on 04 May 21

Ans. Surely, Metallurgy at PEC over Mechanical in UIET. There are various important reasons behind this: Placements in PEC are better, companies like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, etc. visit campus for placements. Though metallurgy has fewer placements than other branches in PEC, once you are in PEC and if you are focused enough, you can go for an upgrade after 1st semester on the basis of CGPA. To aim for it, keep the following things in mind - At most, only the top 10% of the class can be upgraded. The branch you want to be upgraded to will only be available if it has vacant seats. Categories Mechanical Engineering at UIET Chandigarh Metallurgy at PEC Chandigarh Course Fee 82197 (1st year) 6.39 lakh Highest CTC 12.5 LPA 17.75 LPA Average CTC 3.6 LPA 7.5 LPA Recruiting Companies Saint Gobain, ZS Associates, Honeywell, Tata, etc. ZS Associates, Amazon, JP Morgan, JSW Steels, etc. PEC is far superior to UIET in terms of cultural and other extracurricular activities. If you don't have any branch priorities, I'd recommend metallurgy in PEC.Read more

Ques. Is it really worth joining Material Sciences and Metallurgy Engineering at PEC, Chandigarh?

● Top Answer By Neelam Shah on 03 May 21

Ans. It depends upon your expectations, your goals, your abilities, etc. The worth of doing Material Sciences and Metallurgy Engineering at PEC Chandigarh will depend on the following factor: If you gave your very best at the entrance exams but still could not score well enough to get a higher rank which would have given you an option for a better college or branch, then probably it is best to move on and choose the branch and the college. There will be opportunities here as well, no doubt about that. If you think you did not give your full efforts and you could do better in the next year, then definitely you should drop a year for better preparation. It is better to drop rather than lamenting in the future that you did not give your 100% and got stuck here. If you prefer engineering and you are passionate about the subject, then the college reputation and brand should not bother you much. It is about the learning you would get and not about other stuff like rankings, placements, etc. You would get plenty of options and opportunities here as well and after graduating too. If placements matter to you more than anything and you do not have any preference about the branch you would get, then definitely you should prefer a college with a better reputation, placements, etc. Categories Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at PEC Chandigarh Course Fee 6.39 lakh Highest CTC 17.75 LPA Average CTC 6-7 LPA Recruiting Companies ZS Associates, Wipro, Capgemini, JP Morgan, etc. PEC Chandigarh is not a bad college and has a legacy of close to 100 years now. It is also ranked 68 in the NIRF 2020 engineering college rankings. Take a decision based on what you want rather than superficial stats and other things.Read more

Ques. Should I join metallurgy at PEC chandigarh though I have interest in CSE or should I drop an year to make it to IITS/NITS/BITS?

● Top Answer By Nidhi Goswami on 02 May 21

Ans. If you're are interested in CSE, then you can choose one of the lower-ranked colleges than IITs and NITs or PEC Chandigarh and settle there with CSE course. As college is partly responsible for good placements and career. It mainly depends on your hard work and efforts and your ability to do well in your academics.  You can also take a year drop too, if you don't want to settle in a lower-ranked college, and prepare yourself better for JEE exam and clear out the exam with a much better score and ranking to get selected in CSE course in one of the top engineering institutes of our country.  There is also another option, which is a bit risky and will also require you to do a lot of hard work. This is taking up metallurgy in PEC and then scoring a CGPA of 10 or close to 10 in your first year and then apply for a stream change. But this doesn't guarantee that you will get to change to your preferred stream and you may end up studying metallurgy for the rest of the years.  These are the option you have, now the final decision is yours. Read more

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose this course because of its uniqueness. The faculty ratio will be 1:20. Every faculty has done Ph.D. minimum MSC or ME, but they have huge knowledge about polymers and guiding the students on the right path. The teaching method was new where faculty allow us to teach some topics to our own to encourage. And to increase the interest. The semester exam will happen twice a year and will be easy when you learn daily for at least 40 minutes.

Campus Life :

Tech fest will happen in October or November where every other college student participating. Books in a library maybe 1000 + and will be enough books related to your syllabus. Sports in the college will be less because the campus is too small and the ground is much smaller. The rotary club will happen and no other social clubs ever happened

Placement Experience :

7th semester will be there students become eligible for campus placement. Reliance, king, dow, Arun Excello, automobile companies, and much more plastic related companies will occur on placement. The highest will 6 lakhs per annum Lower will be 2 lakhs per annum. Every student will be placed. My plans after the degree are to do a master degree

Remarks :

This college is affiliated to AKTU and government. There are a lots of good and favourable facilities provided by the college. College gives degrees as well as diplomas in the field plastic. Different degrees such B. Tech (Plastic Engineering) and M.T. (Manufacturing technology) also P. HD. In my view M.T. is harder then B. Tech, but there is more senerio of jobs through this. If any one want to take admission in diploma, there is a separate entrance exam i.e. CIPET JEE. In the college hostel facilities are available. One room share by 3 boys and room is enough for adjusting the boys. Hostels are clean once in a week. Hostels are separate for boys as well as girls. It's the duty of students to make room and hostel clean and hygienic. A library is also in college, with the help of which students can gets further information and knowledge. College also participate in different events like sport and cultural etc. The workshop is average and no club activities but, it's not matterPlacement senerio is much higher then other institute and college 7 out of 10. And staff is well qualified. During selecting college student need to pass through different counselling 1-4.

College Events :

There are mainly two major events in college -1. CAPORA (Sport event) each year different sports games plays and students participate in it. 2. ANANT (Cultural events) it is celebrate in the campus. And many small events also provided. College also parts in inter college event and techfest. A enough library is there from which different books related to course and others. Students can gets further knowledge. There is no club available. There is an auditorium where different seminar and webinar held. Students and teacher can interact there.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Now a days everything i.e. small as well as larger objects are made up of plastic. Which attract me to join this field and there are 3-4 college of plastic Engineering that why job senerio is much high then others. There are 25 lectures including workshop practice and an average of 45 year faculties are there. Those are well qualified and expert in there field. Teacher behaviour is good toward their students. Girls and boys ratio is approx 1:5. College conducte some tests i.e. sessional. Teachers also takes random test in class as well.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I choose this particular stream because of low competition, high importance and rapidly growing demand in the field of the petroleum industry as well as in a way to control plastic consumption and management. Faculty student's ratio is good and faculties are very responsible. All of them are highly qualified and recognized at the national level and are directly recruited by the central government. The exam is on time and the syllabus is completed on time. Odd sem exams are held in dec 15-30 and even sem are held on mid-April to May.

Admission :

I opted for this college because I'm an average student and this college seemed an ideal college for me. Factors: stream I chose was slightly unique and has low competition and a high chance of placement or to start a business/startup in the related field. Placement is average but the course curriculum is good, faculty is cooperative. And if you want to study further then you should know that most of the students crack GATE as an academic result is good.

Course Curriculum Overview :

There are two courses taught here 1. Plastic Engineering (PE) 2. Manufacturing technology (MT) in which MT is a harder but better chance of getting a decent job than PE. As per the curriculum, it is good as faculty really is serious and strict besides one or two and looks forward to your academic growth. The course is structured by AKTU for BTech so it has to be a bit messed up but you will not face any difficulty.
