Ques. Is anyone pursuing PGDBA course jointly conducted by IIM Calcutta, IIT Kharagpur, and ISI Kolkata? What is the scope of this new course?

● Top Answer By Atul Yadav on 15 Feb 21

Ans. My friend is a part of the premier batch of PGDBA. They learn various programming languages such as R, Python, Hadoop, Mapreduce, Spark, and Radian6, SQL just to mention a few. This course is industry-oriented and hence you will be getting a lot of data to work on. You can do multiple projects based on the subject you have chosen. Right now, everyone from their batch has worked on two projects. The class average is around 4 projects per student. Scope of the course: This is a highly industry-oriented course and can give a great start to your career. There will be frequent industry visits.  The academic collaborations are one of the few highlights of this course and hence many guest lectures are held.  It is a new course and you would be a great fit for the companies. If you have a specific big company in mind, it may or may not be participating based on whether awareness about the course has reached them or not and whether they are looking for people with analytical skills.  Talking about his experience, it has been 3 years since he graduated from the course. During his time, as a student, he worked on a total of 14 projects and interned with McKinsey. By the end of the internship, McKinsey planned a new role in the company- Data scientist for graduates and other similar recruits. There were a lot of other big companies in internships and placements. They were also offered international internships.  However, the course has only moved uphill since then. The placement reports show an average offer of 26 lacs which is more than the course fee. This course positions you well within the industry and is worth every penny spent.Read more

Ans. On practical terms, it is impossible to say anything for anyone but assume. It can be hoped that the placements provided matches your expectations. As per my sister’s personal experience, it can be assured that internships and placements are going to be equally good in all the three institutes:  Particulars IIT Kharagpur  IIM Calcutta ISI Kolkata Fees 6 Lakhs 27 Lakhs  20,500 INR Average CTC 30 LPA 27.9 LPA 19 LPA NIRF Ranking 1 3 386 Giant companies like Microsoft, SAS, SBI, Deloitte, TCS, IBM, Flipkart, Reliance, American Express, BPCL and Latent View have shown immense interest in hiring students for internships. As per the chairman of the institute himself, a lot of interests have been shown by e-commerce, I-banks and consulting firms. Though he didn’t disclose the company name. The exclusive full-time residential program at PGDBA causes high demands for the course.  Preference is being given to analytics in companies and this can be another factor for the course being in high demand. As per the situations regarding placements and internships, it is not difficult for anyone to assume that you would not get anything less than what you expect from the institutes.
