Master of Design is a Post-graduate degree in the field of design. If you have an edge in creativity and think beyond studios to mend ways for various dynamic designs coming out from your brains, then go for Master of Design. It is a degree which provides specialization in at most 14 different design courses like animation design, craft design, fashion design etc.

 The eligibility to enter in Master of Design (M. Des.) course is a Bachelor’s degree in Design from a recognized institution with atleast 50% marks.

The average tuition fee of the course varies from around 2,40,000 INR to 2,60,000 INR for the whole course. The course is of 2 years and 6 months training included in the course which makes it of total 2 ½ years of course.

After passing out from the course there are several brighter opportunities for the candidates to pursue. The average salary after passing from the course varies from around 2.4 Lakh per annum to 3.1 Lakh per annum. The lists of top recruiters include Cogwheels, Edge Studios, and Vidvus etc.

What is the course about?

The focus of the course is study, invention and creative use of technology to invent or create amazing experiences for users and provide designs which are a forever part of the millennium. It also requires you to understand the impact of technology on individual today and design in order to make user friendly base of experiences.

The course will introduce you to various specializations like automation designs, architectural designs, fashion and various others and this will open gates of more curative and specific interest sector/field design orientation.


The course is of 2 years long duration and an additional 6 months training. Universities like Amity or G D Goenka University, offering distance learning Master of design focus on specialization on Interior design. These distance learning courses are of 2 years duration.

Eligibility Of the Master of Design [M.Des]

The eligibility to pursue Master of Design you need to have a Bachelor of Design or Bachelor of Architecture degree with a minimum of 50% marks.

How to Get Admission in Master of Design [M.Des]

The process of getting into Master of Design is through an entrance examination. This is known as Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED), it is conducted by IIT Mumbai every year.

The test is designed to test the skills of the candidate like, color sensitiveness, structure, perception, innovation and aptitude towards the discipline. The test is followed by a process of personal interview.
