Ques. Are placements guaranteed after MPT from a major college?

Ans. No. A college may provide placement assistance, clinical networks or recruiter access, but employment and salary are not guaranteed. For example, MAHE currently lists Invictus Performance Lab, Qi Spine Clinics and NewRO Rehabilitation Centre as MPT campus-placement examples without publishing a guaranteed MPT salary.

Ques. What foreign package can an Indian MPT graduate expect?

Ans. There is no single “foreign package” because professional licensing differs by country. In the United States, the median annual wage for licensed physical therapists was USD 101,020 in May 2024, but this is not a fresher Indian MPT package; U.S. entry normally requires a Doctor of Physical Therapy qualification pathway and state licensure. In the UK, internationally trained physiotherapists must use the HCPC international registration route and meet its qualification, professional and English-language requirements.

Ques. What can I study after completing MPT?

Ans. Common options include PhD in Physiotherapy, PhD in Rehabilitation or Allied Health Sciences, Master of Public Health, Hospital/Healthcare Management, clinical research courses and advanced rehabilitation fellowships. For PhD in Physiotherapy, NCAHP's framework specifies MPT in a recognised speciality with 55% marks, followed by the relevant university entrance route.

Three Myths Busted
  • Myth: NEET-PG is compulsory for MPT.
  • Fact: No. The 2026–27 national framework provides for entrance examinations by the respective university rather than NEET-PG.
  • Myth: Students from any bachelor’s stream can pursue MPT.
  • Fact: The standard entry qualification is BPT in regular mode from a recognised university; recognised equivalent qualifications in the corresponding discipline receive transitional consideration under the 2026–27 framework.
  • Myth: MPT guarantees a high package immediately after graduation.
  • Fact: Early-career pay varies strongly by employer, city, role and experience; a practical starting benchmark is around INR 2.5–5 LPA.

Types of Admission Routes in India

  • University-Level Entrance Examination: This is the main 2026–27 route. Examples include MET, KAHER-AIET, CHARUSAT MPT Entrance Test and SRHU MPT Entrance Examination; each primarily covers courses offered by the respective university.
  • State-Level Entrance/Centralised Admission: State or Union Territory authorities may organise common entrance or centralised admission for participating institutions. Maharashtra’s 2026–27 medical PG CAP currently includes a PGP/PGO/PGASLP/M.Sc-(P&O) route; candidates must follow the specific course notice issued for their programme.
  • Institute-Level Entrance/Selection: Institutions such as CMC Vellore use their own Group B selection process for MPT rather than a common national examination.
  • Counselling-Based Admission: Entrance-qualified candidates commonly enter counselling for choice filling, document checking and seat allotment. MAHE uses online MPT counselling, while CHARUSAT and SRHU include counselling after their entrance/selection stages.

Master of Physiotherapy (MPT) Admission Process

  • Qualifying Degree: Complete regular-mode BPT from a recognised university or an accepted equivalent qualification in the corresponding discipline under applicable transitional rules.
  • Minimum Marks: Around 50% BPT aggregate is common at institutions such as MAHE and CHARUSAT, but NCAHP's revised national MPT entry text does not prescribe one uniform BPT percentage for every university. (Manipal)
  • Internship: Complete the required BPT internship by the institution's prescribed deadline. MAHE and KAHER explicitly include internship-completion requirements for 2026 admission. (Manipal)
  • Entrance Examination: Appear for the relevant University/State/institute examination such as MET, KAHER-AIET, CHARUSAT MPT Entrance Test, SRHU MPT Entrance Examination or the applicable institutional selection process.
  • Result/Merit: Obtain the required entrance rank or place in the merit list.
  • Interview: Attend an interview where specified. CHARUSAT and SRHU include an interview in their 2026 selection routes.
  • Counselling: Register for counselling, fill programme/specialisation choices where applicable and participate in seat allotment. MAHE, for example, uses MET rank followed by online choice filling and seat allotment.
  • Document Verification: Common documents include BPT marksheets, degree/provisional certificate, internship certificate, identity proof, photographs, medical fitness certificate, migration/transfer documents and category/domicile documents where applicable.
  • Seat Confirmation: Pay the prescribed admission/course fee within the deadline and complete institutional reporting.
  • Direct/Merit Admission: Do not assume direct admission without an entrance test for 2026–27. The NCAHP framework specifies admission through entrance examinations by the respective university; any exception should be supported by a current institution-specific rule.

Ques. What is the average starting salary after MPT in India?

Ans. A practical early-career benchmark is around INR 2.5 LPA–INR 5 LPA. Current qualification-wise salary data places average MPT pay at around INR 5 LPA, while actual starting pay varies by employer, experience, city and specialisation.

Ques. What is the difference between BPT and MPT?

Ans. BPT is the undergraduate professional qualification used to enter physiotherapy practice, while MPT is a postgraduate programme for deeper clinical specialisation, advanced rehabilitation, research and academic development. MPT normally follows BPT.

Ques. Which is preferable for recognition: MPT or M.Sc. Physiotherapy?

Ans. For the regulated physiotherapy pathway, the 2026–27 NCAHP framework specifies Master of Physiotherapy (M.PT.) as the postgraduate degree nomenclature. Students considering differently named programmes such as M.Sc. Physiotherapy should confirm recognition and equivalence before admission.

Ques. Which are some budget-friendly MPT colleges based on current total-course fees?

Ans. Lower-fee examples include Annamalai University at about INR 52.6K, CMC Vellore MPT Orthopaedics at INR 78.1K, UPUMS at INR 1.28 Lakh, Seth GS Medical College at INR 1.34 Lakh, and Government Medical College Nagpur at INR 1.69 Lakh Fees may change by specialisation and admission year.

FAQ’s

Ques. What is the duration of MPT in India for the 2026–27 academic year?

Ans. MPT is standardised as a 2-year postgraduate programme under the 2026–27 NCAHP framework, with a minimum of 3,240 hours. Some universities follow an annual structure, while institutions such as MAHE describe the programme as four semesters.

Ques. What BPT score is required for MPT admission?

Ans. There is no single BPT percentage applicable to every university. The revised NCAHP MPT entry requirement specifies regular-mode BPT from a recognised university without retaining the earlier uniform 50% wording. However, institutions such as MAHE and CHARUSAT currently require at least 50% aggregate, so 50% is a common practical benchmark.

Ques. Can a B.Sc., B.A., B.Com or other non-physiotherapy graduate apply for an MPT?

Ans. Generally, no. MPT is a professional postgraduate physiotherapy programme, and the standard qualification is BPT. For the 2026–27 transition, NCAHP has clarified that an equivalent bachelor's degree in the corresponding discipline may also be considered where applicable.

Ques. Is NEET-PG compulsory for MPT admission in 2026?

Ans. No. NEET-PG is not the standard national entrance test for MPT. NCAHP's 2026–27 criteria specify admission on the basis of entrance examinations conducted by the respective university.

Ques. Is CUET PG compulsory for MPT?

Ans. No. CUET PG is not compulsory for MPT nationally. Some institutions may accept it—the current MPT college listing shows CUET PG under the accepted-exam filter for a limited number of colleges—but students should use it only when the university's current MPT admission notice specifically accepts the score.

Ques. Is internship completion required before MPT admission?

Ans. It is commonly required by universities. MAHE requires completion of the BPT internship before MPT commencement, while KAHER's 2026 notice requires completion by October 15, 2026. Always follow the deadline stated by the selected institution.

Ques. Which MPT specialisations are popular in India?

Ans. Common choices include Musculoskeletal/Orthopaedics, Neurology/Neurosciences, Sports Physiotherapy, Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy, Pediatrics, Community Physiotherapy, Obstetrics & Gynaecology/Women's Health, Geriatrics and Oncology.

Ques. Which MPT specialisation has the highest salary?

Ans. There is no verified nationwide “highest-paying” MPT stream. Sports and musculoskeletal roles can have higher earning potential in private clinics and performance settings, while neuro, cardiopulmonary and specialised rehabilitation also offer strong career pathways. Employer, location, experience and clinical skills generally influence salary more than the specialisation name alone.

Ques. Can I get direct MPT admission without an entrance examination in 2026–27?

Ans. Students should not assume direct admission. The national 2026–27 framework specifies admission based on entrance examinations conducted by the respective university. A merit/direct route should be considered only if a current institution-specific rule explicitly permits it.

Ques. How does MPT counselling work after the entrance examination?

Ans. The exact process varies. For MAHE, candidates need a MET rank and then complete online counselling registration, choice filling, seat allotment and fee payment. CHARUSAT includes an entrance test, result, board interview and counselling, while SRHU's first round combines entrance, interview, counselling and document verification.

Faculty

They place 3 students under 1 guide and every student gets a mentor helping them in their presentations and research work. Some staff members are great in terms of helping and a few of them are not really approachable. There's 1 university exam in 2 years for pg course and a mid term college exam for same.

Course Curriculum Overview

The curriculum includes a detailed pediatric and adult neuroscience topic ( for my speciality, which is masters in neuro physiotherapy) The curriculum followed in the college is of MUHS . The curriculum could have divided the speciality into 2, hopefully MUHS would do that in the coming years.

Fees and Financial Aid

The total fees of the course is 250000/-. Yearly - 125000/- Semester wise - 62500/- No donation needed We were supposed to pay an amount of 26000/- to confirm the seat. Rest amount of 99000/- needed to pay at the starting of classes. Each semester fees should be paid beforehand, means at the starting of a semester. No extra fees were required Our junior batch has the same fee structure as ours

They have abundant and experienced faculties for teaching. They are welcoming and can approach anytime and considers us more like friends rather than students. The exam pattern consists of four exams for a span in four semesters and of course they are easy to attend as the university is deemed.
