Masters in Science in Dairy Engineering is a post-graduation course to employ the concept of engineering in dairy products. The concept involves handling milk from production and consumption and includes processing, packaging, storage, transport and physical distribution. The duration of the course is 2 years. The eligibility of the course is graduation in this or any other stream.

The average fee maybe around 10000 to 30000 for the course depending on the institute. The average entry level salary is between 23000 to 40000 per month depending on expertise and institute.


The duration of the course is 2 years for graduates with at least four years professional degrees. Those with 3 years bachelor degree will undergo pre-requisite courses as decided by the Board of Studies and the duration will be 3 years. 

For distance education, also the duration of the course is 2 years. However, the duration may vary according to college requirements.

What is the course all about?

Its main objectives are to prevent spoilage, improve quality, increase shelf-life, and make milk edible and safe for human consumption. In order to achieve that, a study of engineering level is required which will include aspects of production, processing and management of dairying. Hence it is more inclined towards job locations in factories rather than offices.

As a Dairy Engineer a person should know what it takes to make a good glass of milk along with the precise temperature requirements to make that taste even better. That’s why a background in mathematics, engineering, chemistry, English, and computers provides the well-rounded knowledge base needed

A person who wants to go ahead with this stream can attain a Ph.D in the same. The minimum duration for attaining Ph.D is 3 years and maximum is 5 years with no age limit.

The admission is carried out using entrance exam as a medium in most of the cases. For some cases, an option for direct admission is also available where mode of admission is percentage obtained during graduation.
