Dairy Technology is a trending technology which has been carried out over the last 50 years in India for the services of dairy products, their handling and processing along with the storage, monitoring and transportation. To be eligible in this course the candidate has to be of Science background and a minimum of 50% in the graduate and 12th level but this might also vary from institute to institute. The duration of the course in general is 2 years and is available in both full time and correspondence course.

The main objective of this course is to teach the students the application of science and technology in dairy and related biological systems. Dairy technology is to bring about the entrepreneur skills of the students to propagate knowledge. A major portion of this course revolves around storage, handling, planning, removing of harmful toxins, designing the products and the correct method of the dissipation of the products. It also includes the study of applied science for animal nutrition.
The course duration is of 3 years for the graduates in science subjects and of 2 years for the students who have under-graduated a 4-year professional degree. Those with a 3-year degree have to undergo the pre-requisite courses which are decided by the Board of Studies.
The course is also available as a distant education with correspondence materials regarding the subjects. It is generally of 2 years but may vary from college to college.
The students having an enthusiasm towards Dairy Technology can opt for this course or the students who want to start their own small scale business in milk products or the students deciding to work as consultants can opt for this course. The students can also go in the blooming field of research or even take up teaching after having received the P.G. degree.
