    M.Tech. in Electrical Power System: Admission Process

    Admission to the course is based on the candidate’s performance in a relevant institutional/ State/ national-level entrance exam, such as GATE, which is an all-India level examination held for admission to the country’s IITs. GATE scores are also accepted by most reputed engineering institutes of the country.

    Ans. The Department of  Energy Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay focuses on research and education for the development of sustainable energy systems for the future. The department offers M.Tech in Energy System Engineering with a duration of 2 years. The institute takes admission to the M.Tech Energy System Engineering program based on the performance of the candidate in GATE. For 2019 the GATE cutoff for Energy System Engineering was 750 (General). The first-year course fee for the program is INR 32,000. According to the placement statistics of 2019, a total of 402 students from M.Tech courses got placements. The average CTC offered was around INR 14.11 LPA. IIT Bhubaneswar offers MTech in Power System Engineering. The M.Tech program in Power System Engineering focuses on power systems, power electronics, renewable and distributed energy systems, control and optimization, etc. The intake of the students into the program is done through GATE and the expected GATE cutoff in 2020 for Power System Engineering is 495-505 (general category). M.Tech Electrical Engineering program in IIT BHU is quite good, the faculty members are well experienced and the department has well-furnished labs equipped with state-of-the-art instruments. At present, there are 8 lab facilities available in the Electrical Engineering department. There are a total of 5 specializations in electrical engineering in IIT BHU: Electrical Machines and Drives, Power Systems, Control Systems Engineering, Power Electronics, and Systems Engineering (interdisciplinary). The placement record of IIT BHU is very good especially for branches like Electrical, Electronic, computer science,  mathematics, and computing. If we talk about Electrical engineering, it gives you tremendous flexibility in pursuing your interests in Coding, Electronics,  Core Electrical Engineering. There are many companies that provide offers for the core as well as non-core jobs for M.Tech students. Offers are given by companies like Cisco, Accenture, IBM, Mentor graphics, Qualcomm, Intel, Nvidia, Wipro, Tata,  many others. If you have programming skills, you can easily get placement into MNCs.  Now coming to the next part if it is better or not to join the M.Tech program in IIT BHU. It depends on the branch and other options you have.     Ans. M.Tech in Electrical Engineering programs offered by IIT BHU and IIT Bhubaneswar are not similar, so the choice must be based on what you are looking for in the program. The EE department of IIT BHU offers M.Tech programs in Electrical Machines and Drives, Power Systems, Control Systems, Power Electronics, and Interdisciplinary Systems Engineering. Whereas Electrical science department of IIT Bhubaneswar offers an M.Tech program in Power system engineering, and Electronics & Communication Engineering.  IIT BHU has one of the largest and well-connected alumni foundation in India. The placement scenario of EE is very good at IIT BHU. According to 2019 placement statistics, a total of 52 companies visited the campus for recruitment. 88 students got placed from the Electrical Engineering department with an average package of 8.19 LPA. On the other hand, about 68% of the M.Tech batch have been placed successfully in the year 2019 from IIT Bhubaneswar. A total of 89 companies visited the campus.
