Eligibility for PGD in Services Management

For applying to the course, aspiring candidates need to have a B.E./ B. Tech qualification (10+2+3 pattern) in any discipline from a recognized/ accredited institute, with a minimum aggregate score of 45% (40% for SC/ ST/ OBC candidates). Engineering/ Medicine/ Chartered Accountancy (ICAI)/ Cost and Works Accountancy(ICWAI)/ Chartered Secretary (ICSI), and Law degree holders are also eligible to apply.

Students who have appeared in their final year examination of a relevant Bachelor’s degree program, and are yet to pass its final year examination, are also welcome to apply, subject to a successful completion of their Bachelor’s degree program/ graduation within a certain time period.

PGD in Services Management: Admission Process

Admission to the course is based either on performance in a relevant entrance test and the following round of interview, or in most cases, direct admission is offered too.

Written Test - Most institutes conduct their written tests between November and January. The written tests, inter alia, include the following components of assessment:

  • Quantitative Skills: This section tests the aspirant’s skills of up to higher secondary school mathematics, such as Arithmetic (Number Theory, Ratio and Proportion, TSD, Percentages, Partnerships, Mixtures and Allegations etc.)
  • Geometry: Lines and Angles, Triangles, Circles, Co-Ordinate Geometry etc.
  • Algebra: Quadratic equations, Functions
  • Probability, Permutations and Combinations
  • Set theory, Trigonometry, Stock and Shares etc.
  • Verbal Ability: This section includes Grammar, English usage, Reading comprehension, Vocabulary and other aspects of English language
  • General and Business Awareness: It includes static and current general knowledge and business awareness.
  • Reasoning Abilities: This includes puzzles, critical reasoning, visual reasoning etc.

Group Discussion and Interview - These stages are held between February and March for most institutes. GDs and PIs are undertaken to assess the candidate’s personality traits such as Group Behaviour, Awareness, Communication skills, Reasoning ability, Flexibility, Leadership, Assertiveness, Initiative, Confidence, Creativity, to name a few.

An interview can be broadly categorized into Personal Interview and Group Interview. The Personal Interview assesses the candidates’ academics, goals and self-awareness, while the Group Interview assesses the candidate’s analytical ability.

The service sector encompasses a massive part of India’s economy, and has higher growth rate than the agriculture and manufacturing sectors. Services firms are people- oriented owing to the involvement of direct interaction with customers. Customers generally participate in the service process, often through direct and uncensored interaction with employees and facilities. Ans. One of my students passed out of XLRI recently. Let me share his experiences after graduating from this institute. He claims it is one of the finest B-schools in India. An HR manager from any institute will do what their role is, perhaps you should try to find much more efficient ways to solve all those problems in their organization. Ans. Getting to know from friends studying at these colleges. It is important for you to note that all of the IIMs do not offer a specialized program in Human Resource Management. Only IIM Ranchi and IIM Indore offer a dedicated program in the field of HRM. Here are some of the facts you must keep in mind before making any decision. Make an informed decision MBA in HR is way different than MBA in any other stream.  MBA is all about being analytical and calculative.  But if you choose to pursue HRM, you should be able to focus on human interactions and relationships. Brand name You may feel that some great B-schools in India such as XLRI, MDI, and TISS are as old as the IIMs and possess the same brand value.  If you do not get a seat in an old IIM or are not obsessed with an IIM tag then mentioned colleges will be good for you. They are equally good as the IIMs. Faculty Team IIMs are known for some of the finest professors in all of their specializations.  As the number of students in HRM is less, this also affects the number of faculty in that department.  XLRI has some great professors in HRM. Peer group Most of the learning outside the classroom comes from one’s friend circle.  Your fellow students in IIMs incline towards specializations such as Finance, Marketing, Operations, or IT.  Very few students opt for HRM.  Therefore, it will be a better learning environment where most people are interested in the same topic. My friends and I studied at XLRI and it is considered one of the top institutes for MBA in India.  You must do the following before taking any decision  Read about non-HR and HR employees.  Check if your profile matches your strengths. Don't jump into HR naively because it sounds easy.  It's best suited to psychology students as it deals with human interactions. An HR job is very demanding and you must put your best at your role You can get job roles like Talent Acquisition, Human Resource Executive, Salary Incharge, Performance Analyst, Assistant to the HR, etc. Recruiting sectors include Consulting, Digital Media, Educational, Healthcare, Tourism, Insurance, IT, etc. When it comes to XLRI, very few companies offer a role for HR instead core job roles are more preferred. Ans. One of my friends is studying at XLRI. To her, there is no difference or classification of the amount of international exposure or on-site opportunities, based on specializations. The points below provide a clear picture of the modes of international exposure that students of XLRI receive during their course and afterward. There is a student exchange program in XLRI, which provides foreign learning opportunities to students.  The institute has tie-ups with several international business schools like ESADE, Audencia, Darden, and EM Lyon. Almost 20% of students from the batch get the opportunity to spend a semester in one of the foreign institutes. Among them, most of the seats are available to HR and BM students. Students get the benefit of interacting with international students and get used to the global perspective of MBA. In terms of internships and placements, the working experience of candidates totally depends upon the job role offered by the company. In certain cases, companies send their summer interns abroad to their offices.  There are HR interns from HUL, who worked in the United Kingdom during their internship period.  Therefore, specialization is not the mode of distinguishing chances for on-site opportunities, and the factor is entirely based on the company’s business requirements.Read more

The fee structure of the college is feasible actually in my opinion. As it is providing higher education- PGDM/MBA and has a good reputation. The faculty have a class and crowd is also good. It’s worth giving that much of fees or we can say value for money

Course Curriculum Overview :

I choose " service management" as my specialization.The curriculum of the course was a bit hectic in the initial trimester and we had 10 subjects and i felt the course curriculum hectic beacuse i have never faced 10 subjects in any semester during my graduation that's why i felt it hectic.Exams criteria was also different from my graduation college because quizes in each subject matters alot in this collge if you want to score good then you should have good marks in all the quizes and each quiz carries 10 marks and apart from quizes there are lot of presentations we have to make and carries 20 marks and 10 marks for the project and finally 40 marks for end term exam.

Placement Experience :

During my interaction with my seniors i got to know that the college has decent placement record and in 2019 almost 80-90 companies visted the college campus and 90% of the batch placed in the campus out of which 40% of the batch placed with good companies. But most of the companies were from sales domain and if anyone is looking for good job in sales then it is definitely a good college.Top recruiters were HCL,Delloite,Delhivery etc.The average pakage is around 6 lakhs and highest package is around 12 lakhs.The college also provides many internship opportunities but the stipend varies from 0-20k

College Events :

There are lots of events celebrated in jim noida very year and all the event's are organized by college students only and events are organized by different clubs in the college like hr club,finance club,marketing club,sports club,academic club,cultural club etc.All the clubs have different president's and vice presidents and all the positions are nominated by college students by a college elections. The famous cultural event of our college is "gravity " which happens every year for 2-3 days and lot of events takes place in gravity like dance,theatre,drama,treasure hunt etc.

Career Management Cell is doing a great job in this college. The college has old relations with some big corporate giants who come every year for placements like Deloitte, Prism Johnson Cement Limited, Tata Aig, UTI Amc to name a few. About 300 plus companies visit campus every year.

College Events :

Campus is also very nice. Everyday there is one or the other event and they really help you in building your confidence. There are so many Committees in the college which give you exposure in almost every field like marketing or finance or hr etc.
