Ques. I've got two options, TAPMI PGDM and IRMA PRM. What should I choose?

● Top Answer By Priyanka Bose on 19 May 21

Ans. If you are interested in working with the organizations that work for the rural sector and are engaged with rural communities, then choose IRMA PRM.  IRMA: IRMA is very much interested and concerned in the development and management of the rural communities and this perspective makes it different from other colleges.  Choosing IRMA PRM doesn't only mean that you have to work in the rural sector. There are various kinds of job roles available in this field. You can choose to work in sales in sectors like diaries and for agricultural products.  You can work in the finance sectors like Microfinance and Agrifinance.  There are also various organizations like HDFC Bank, Yes Bank, Fullerton that come to campus for interviews and recruit students for various job roles.  Apart from these, some rural agricultural businesses and rural marketing organizations also recruit students from this college.  TAPMI: The MBA at TAPMI is just a general MBA that has a more traditional approach. Also, TAPMI has a great campus.  Here’s a brief highlight of 2021 placements at the institutes. Parameters  IRMA PRM  TAPMI Average CTC 10.76 LPA 11 LPA Highest CTC 19 LPA 25 LPA Hence, choosing for IRMA PRM will be a better choice as there are various kinds of job roles related to the rural and agricultural sector and also has less competition than courses like general MBA and PGDM.Read more

Ques. Is it worth investing 11 lacs in Rural Management from XIMB? Can the amount be recovered after 2-3 years of placement?

● Top Answer By Sonia Verma on 20 Apr 21

Ans. XIMB-RM lands under the umbrella of XUB, the brand. Xavier University, Bhubaneswar is ranked tenth among the Top 50 Private State Universities in India by the Outlook ICARE University Ranking 2020. Winning Status: Apart from the general business management program, it is worth investing the fee of INR 11 Lakhs in the rural management program. Reasons: There is an increase in the scope of this field because of change in the socioeconomic factors and government policies on rural upliftment. The rate of recovering the ROI on the performance of the students in the campus placements. The placement figures are below. Average Salary INR 8 LPA Average of Top 50% INR 9.33 LPA Average of Top 20% INR 10.84 LPA Average of Top 10% INR 12.65 LPA Highest Salary (Domestic) INR 15 LPA The placement is in different fields covering, NGOs, banks, consulting firms, and FMCG companies. Therefore, it depends upon the student’s area of interest. It is possible to repay the loans in approximately a year and a half. The brownie points of joining the RM program are that there are nearly around five thousand management professionals in competition to five lakh HR & BM professionals. The amount invested in the institute can be quickly recovered before two years of the job after the course, but only if the student is inclined towards the branch. There are lucrative growth prospects in RM that is higher than any other branch. The reason being, the way the government is trying to develop rural India.Read more

Ques. Has the course of Rural Management at XIMB deteriorated?

● Top Answer By Shweta Sri on 20 Apr 21

Ans. Xavier Institute of Rural Management which is also a part of XIMB Bhubaneswar offers MBA in rural management program. This program gives the student a MBA Plus orientation along with a regular MBA program. This program offers practical exposure to the rural management along with the classroom programs. There are flagship programs like gramotsavam which are conducted every year by the college. In this event the students get exposure to villages and this helps them to develop their communication and marketing skills while speaking with rural people. The performance of this program can be evaluated from the placement reports of 2018 and 2020. Particulars Placement report of 2018 Placement report of 2020 Highest salary offered 13.75 LPA. 13.20 LPA. Average salary 7.67 LPA. 7.78 LPA. Median annual compensation 7.40 LPA. 7.50 LPA. Average annual compensation of the top 20% of the batch 10.05 LPA. 10.85 LPA Average annual compensation of the top 50% of the batch 8.70 LPA. 9.33 LPA. Number of participating recruiters 33 35 It can be seen from the above comparison of placement reports that overall the performance in placement of 2020 has been better as compared to the placements of 2018. Although the highest salary has been little less as compared to 2018 but overall the performance was good. New recruiters were also added as well. Healthcare sectors in placements were also added. BFSI and financial inclusion sectors offered the highest salaries and showed a 41.44% rise in the total numbers of offers being made.Read more

Ques. Is rural management from XIMB - 3 years work experience with TCS worth it?

● Top Answer By Anjini Kumar on 20 Apr 21

Ans. Firstly, it is important to understand what management means to you. Yes, just like People going to Microsoft or Google post-Engineering were passionate about coding/computers vis-a-vis those who opted for say a TCS/Wipro. Therefore, if a Management education is an escape route from the monotonous coding life, do not go for this degree. Simply because after a few years of working, you might find yourself in a regretful situation. Now coming to XIMB, Bhubaneswar as a college, these are the key highlights. The colleges have an impeccable infrastructure. The faculty is great. Great campus culture Good placements However, check the following reasons why you should not go for the Rural Management course. The Rural Management course requires a lot of fieldwork and expedition which won’t suffice the basic ROI model. The course is shifted to the other campus which is situated in a suburban area. This is a huge downfall as you might be curtailed from important facilities and infrastructure. Placement may not be that great, having invested 13 lacs as the course fee itself. With mediocre placement records, this might not be a good return on your investment. With a 3 year experience in TCS and a continuous C band, the salary you have now will be more or less equal to what you might get after placements. Hence, it won’t make a huge difference. Undoubtedly, the scope for courses like Rural Management is limited, that’s why most people who acquire an RM degree go for corporate jobs at last. Categories Rural Management in XIMB Course Fee 13.80 lakh Highest CTC 13.2 LPA Average CTC 9 LPA Overall, if you are very much into the management sector, go for courses like MBA and other PGDM courses instead of Rural Management. Limited scope, extensive fieldwork, mediocre placements is not a good return when you pay such a high fee. Hence, choose wisely.Read more

Ques. How good is XIMB for rural management?

● Top Answer By Shivani Khanna on 19 Apr 21

Ans. Rural management at XIMB is a decent option for students, which is even considered at par with the Indian Institute of Rural Management, Anand. There are several notions in the minds of people, which creates doubt about whether to choose Rural management or not. The points below give a clear picture of the course, addressing the benefits and the genuine outcomes of the degree. It consists of all the subjects taught in BM and HRM, along with some extra subjects dealing with rural management. You can go through the previous year's CAT cut-offs to decide which institute or stream is better. The cut-off for XIMB-RM is lower than HRM and BM, which makes you to remove it from your preference, which is a wrong notion. More than half of the entire class of rural management have excellent scores in CAT or XAT. Mostly, there are students with CAT cut-offs around 75-90 in RM.  The rural management course at XIMB is quite good and ranked close to IRMA. It is ranked second in the country after IIM Ahmedabad and 19th worldwide.  The majority of people believe that Rural Management students are hired only by development agencies and NGOs, which is another wrong notion. Several Consulting, IT companies, BFSI, and FMCG come to recruits RM students in placement. People even think that Rural Managers have to work in interior parts of India. But the fact is that most RMs work in tier-1 or tier-2 cities, and visit rural interiors as a part of their work for monitoring their company works. Engineering back-out from doing MBA at rural management, thinking that their work experience would be of no value for the degree. But, just like any other streams, work experience gets extra emphasis in rural management too. The placements in RM are of average quality at present but are at rapid growth. Having an average package is still satisfactory, which will lead to a handsome package within two years. There are students from RM having excellent salary packages, which are the result of their hard work and maximum course extraction. Students from IT companies have a good scope in RM as most IT or consulting companies working in rural regions have projects from government and micro-finance companies, and so are in great demand. These are some of the key highlights and clarifications to most wrong notions about Rural Management from XIMB, which is indeed a good option having ample opportunities and great scope in the future.Read more

I choose to pursue my PGDM in Rural Management as the institute was very popular and has witnessed a significant growth in the past years. The main reason for why I took admission in this institution is because of its good aspects such as record-breaking placements, rigorous curriculum, academic rigour, excellence, sustainable students environment, global exposure, experiential learning experience, etc. Admission for the PGDM RM is based on valid scores in CAT/ XAT/ IRMASAT. Final selection of students is based on the entrance exam scores and their performance in Group Activity (GA) and Personal Interview (PI)

Placement Experience :

The institute has a dedicated placement committee which is committed towards ensuring the students understand the interview procedure and give their best during the campus placement drive. Do they organise various mock-up events like tests and interviews. The institute recorded its highest CTC at 53 LPA. More than 20 PPOs were accepted and 314 ofders for a batch 233 students were made last year in the placement drive

Campus Life :

The campus infrastructure of the institute is very spacious and all the basic facilities required for a management institute is available. Various facilities such as smart classrooms, video conferencing facilities, auditorium, seminar halls, computer labs, finance labs, medical room, etc. The clasrooms are accommodated with modern technologies such as 3d screens, high-end sound systems, projectors.

IRMA is among the top B-schools of Gujarat and its recognition all across the state was the reason why I chose it. The institute was ranked 22nd among top B-schools of India by "The week". The institute is accredited with Grade''A'' by NAAC & has been approved by both NBA & AICTE. I opted for the PGD-RM program and admissions to the program are based on the CAT/XAT/IRMASAT score of the student, followed by PI/GD round performance.

Admission :

The applied candidates were firstly shortlisted by the institute on the base of scores in CAT/XAT/IRMASAT exam. The shortlisted students were then called for GD/ PI rounds. The judge panel examined different aspects about the candidate through different ways of questioning. The final selection for admissions was based on the overall performance of candidates in all these rounds.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I opted for this particular field due to my interest in social welfare. The institute is among the top B-schools of the country and there are totally 64 faculty members at XLRI. Most of them are doctorate degrees in their respective fields from the best of management institutes. The program consists of all different aspects about rural development.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Here, I got to study a unique curriculum coupled infused with multi-disciplinary, practical and ethical questions and analyses reflecting complex challenges that professional managers and leaders face. The curriculum provided us a wide spectrum of high quality courses with a great focus on experiential learning comprising of three distinct yet mutually supportive segments - Classroom, Village Fieldwork, and Summer Internship. Our faculty members were renowned in the field of rural management that included extraordinary teachers and dedicated mentors. Each faculty member, irrespective of his or her domain of expertise, continuously strived to nurture empathy, creativity, excellence, and integrity in us.

Campus Life :

It was one of the most beautiful journey of my life. It was my second home right from when we started exploring the rural landscapes and getting a feel of what was actually being taught in classes. Here, we also had facilities for Snooker and other few indoor games whereas the Sports Complex hosts a gym facility, indoor badminton court, TT facility etc along with a decent sports ground that hosted Cricket, Football, Volley ball and Basket ball games.

Remarks :

I was planning to my PGDM program from a institute that had a good PGDM curriculum, so I was not exactly looking for a institute rather for a good PGDM program. I looked in every most of the cities and finally decided to land here because IRMA had the most practical and skill -based approach towards the curriculum, hence I applied here through the online portal of the university by paying an application fee of INR 1500.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course has all the subjects of a general MBA but along with that, in every term a rural or development oriented subject is included. In the 2nd year, a student has a choice to choose corporate or development subjects. The number of faculties are enough as the batch size is relatively lower with only 216 students. Most of the faculties hold PhD in their respective fields and are very accommodative in terms of providing out of the classroom guidance too. The 6 terms had mid-term and end term exams. A person who has paid attention in class can easily pass with a decent score.

Campus Life :

Unlike other colleges IRMA does not has an annual fest. However, the campus life is vibrant as we celebrate all the festivals with equal zest. The library has a pretty huge collection and we can also access books online. Classrooms are well built with all the digital infrastructure. The sports facilities are also good. The sports complex is in fact as place where students and faculties interact informally. The college has all sorts of clubs and committees.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fees is decent with an amount of around 12 lacs for the whole course. The mess bills are not included. The cost to study is relatively lower to other colleges. The students with financial issues are provided with scholarship opportunities too. I got a job in Collegedunia with a salary of 10 LPA.

Placement Experience :

The placement scenario is fine as even in the economic slowdown and pandemic lockdown, the packages were fine. There were enough offers for almost all the students except for 15-20 students. But that is because of there own lack of skillset that is required by the company. The highest package for this is 18 lakhs and internship is also fine with average stipend of 50000 for two months. Although, the college inflated the placement and packages, please do digging before you make any decision.

Campus Life :

The campus life is the most exciting part of the MBA programme. As this is a residential programme, there would be ample learning opportunity from peers and professor. The culture is great, there would be multiple events and you would not feel bored in the campus. You will always be on your toes, you will always have something to do. It was a great experience even after the lockdown period we had to spend less time but whatever time we spent was amazing.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The faculty& Student ratio was really balanced but there were some faculties who were multiple electives so there was some issues with the operations other than that quality of professors are also not that good except few of the professors were really good. The field experience was a plus point.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum consists of six terms with a mandatory general management course along with diverse electives to choose from according to interest. IRMA offers certain extremely important subjects such as Collective action and cooperation, management cooperatives through collective action, etc. which are not being taught in other B-schools. In short, IRMA tries to integrate multidisciplinary courses along with basic ones which are required for good managers to learn. The faculty members are extremely supportive and come from various backgrounds of corporate as well as the development sector which gives a good mix of learning opportunities to students. The regular feedback mechanism is followed by filling of the same of which is mandatory for students. Such feedbacks are necessary for faculty to be motivated to transmit their knowledge or to improve upon pedagogy if required.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fee structure for the batch of 2022 is around 12.75 lakhs excluding fooding which costs around Rs. 5000 per month additionally. The fee is generally increased by 1-2 lakhs every successive year but due to AICTE regulations during the covid -19 pandemic, the fee structure for the batch of 2022 was the same as the previous batch of 2021. However, the fee structure is hiked by around 3.5 lakhs for the batch of 2023 leading to around 16 lakhs. There is a tuition fee waiver of around 4-6 laks for the students coming from weaker socio-economic backgrounds. The placement is good here and almost all the students get placed. The average placement figure is 15 lakhs.

Campus Life :

Like any other MBA college, IRMA's curriculum is exhaustive too. With succeeding months/terms, we learn to manage time for other extracurricular activities too. There are numerous functions taking place almost every second to the third week such as Milaap, Navratri, 10 saal baad, 20 saal baad, Onam, Lohri, regional lunches and dinner etc. Milaap and 10/20 saal baad are conducted to connect students to alumni which is very beneficial for the students in the long run. The library is enriched with books and reference materials and classrooms provide a perfect ambience for learning.

My journey with the XISS was filled with many highs and lows. I did my PGDM in Human Resource Management from the college. It was fun 2 years, where we learned the practical implications and management of resource management and appropriately managing the manpower of an organization. We were constantly reminded that the in India is in need of resurrection and people like us are responsible for it.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Overall, the course was very informative and had a mixture of various practical sessions and theory sessions. Our curriculum spanned over 2 years and was divided into the trimester system with a total of six semesters. Over the course of these semesters, we studied managerial economics to labor law, Quality management to strategic management, etc. Exams would be held at the end of each semester.

Admission :

The admissions to the PGDM program are conducted by Xavier's group. I applied with my XAT exam scores. Shortlisted candidates are invited for the counseling round which includes Group Discussion and Personal Interview round. A merit list is prepared considering all these factors, out of which Interview round holds a weightage of 30% and an entrance exam holds a weightage of 40%.
