# CAT Previous Year Paper Analysis for QA: Section-wise Analysis

Quantitative Ability section in CAT tests candidate’s aptitude in various areas of Mathematics. The topics covered are from Number System, Algebra, Arithmetic, Geometry, Mensuration, Modern Math, etc. Concept based learning and regular practice will help prepare quants in a better way. There are a total of 34 questions from Quants with both MCQ (24-27) and Non-MCQ (7-10) type of questions. As 2019 session of CAT is successfully conducted, collegedunia has come up with complete Paper Analysis including all sections.

• QA section in CAT 2019 was observed to be slightly easier in comparison to 2018. This was mainly because the questions were less time consuming.
• Airthmetic aced the section with a total of 14 questions followed by Algebra with 11 questions in both the slots.
• Geometry and Mensuration covered an important part with 6 questions in both the slots.
• A decline was seen in questions from Modern Maths with mere one question from P and C Venn Diagrams ach in slot one and 3 questions in slot 2.

## CAT Paper Analysis 2019 for QA

As per experts the section provided ample opprtunity to score well if candidates were able to segregate questions as per difficulty and attempt it. Though there were do able questions, there was presence of substantial difficult questions as well.

Comparing slot 2 quants with slot 1 there was no difference in difficulty and distribution of questions. Though there was complete absence of Modern Math and questions in Numbers increased to 3.

CAT 2018 was held on November 25 conducted in two slots-morning and afternoon. Quantitative Ability section consisted of 34 questions in total. The section had a time limit of 60 minutes.

• 11 questions were non-MCQ and 23 questions were MCQs.
• The level of questions was easy.
• Arithmetic and Algebra dominated the section with 20-21 questions.

• 8 questions were non-MCQ, and 24 questions were MCQs.
• The level of questions was easy to moderate. There was no question too difficult to solve.
• Arithmetic and Algebra dominated the section with around 22 questions
• A good attempt of 24-28 questions with 90% accuracy could fetch 99% ile.

CAT 2017 was held on November 26 in two slots- morning and afternoon. The Quantitative Ability section consisted of 34 questions in total. The section had a time limit of 60 minutes.

• 7-8 questions were non-MCQ and 23-24 questions were MCQs.
• The level of questions was difficult compared to the previous year’s.
• Algebra questions were on Inequalities and Quadratic equations. Arithmetic questions were from Commercial Math and TSD.
• A good attempt was of 23-26 questions with 90% accuracy to fetch 99%ile.

• The level of questions was easier compared to that of Slot 1 but difficult than previous year’s.
• Number of questions from Geometry was more than the previous year.
• Arithmetic questions were focused on Commercial Math and TSD.

CAT 2015 was held on November 29 in two slots- morning and afternoon. The Quantitative Ability section consisted of 34 questions in total. The section had a time limit of 60 minutes.

### CAT 2015 Slot 1 QA Paper Analysis

• 15 questions were Non-MCQ and 19 questions were MCQs.
• The level of questions was easy.
• Arithmetic and Algebra dominated the section with around 22 questions.
• As the section was very easy, accuracy was the make or break factor.
• A good attempt was of 30-35 questions with 98% accuracy.

## CAT Paper Analysis 2014 for QA

• CAT 2014 was conducted in two parts – morning session on November 16 and afternoon session on November 24
• 34 questions were of Quantitative Ability in the QA/DI section.
• There was no sectional time limit. Estimated time required to attempt only QA question was 40-45 minutes.
• Questions were from Number System, Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, and Permutation & Combinations.
• The level of questions in both the slot was easy.
• A good attempt was of 20-25 QA questions. The overall good attempt for this section was 35-40 questions.
