CMAT is conducted by the National Testing Agency every year for admission into some of the top AICTE approved management colleges in India. A centralized counselling process is not conducted by NTA. Steps to Register for CMAT Counselling 2021
CMAT 2021 Counseling varies for every college that accepts CMAT Scores. After the cut off is released for CMAT, each individual college releases the procedure to register for CMAT counselling using the scores.
Generally, the CMAT Counseling process involves the release of the cut off, personal interview, group discussion, and the final selection. Follow the following general steps for CMAT counselling:
- Based on CMAT cut off, narrow down the colleges that you can apply for.
- Make your preference list of colleges based on research about the college and reviews given by students and alumni.
- Online Registration: Candidates must first register on the official website for being eligible for CMAT counselling procedure.
- Choice filling & locking: Candidates need to select the colleges and courses of their choice from the list of options and lock them. No changes will be permitted in the choices at a later stage.
- Some colleges may have personal interviews and group discussions, some colleges might accept admissions based on merit list alone and some colleges may carry out admission based on the candidate's CMAT Scores and Merit List.

Stages in CMAT 2021 Counselling
Stage 1: CMAT Counseling Cut Off
CMAT Counselling process begins after the participating colleges announce their respective CMAT Cut Off. The counselling process is usually different for every college as each follows its individual process of selection. Candidates must register for the respective colleges as per their CMAT Cut off. The Cut off is higher for colleges that offer better education, and for most excellent colleges the general cut off range is above 80.
CMAT Cut Off is affected by the following factors:
- The difficulty level of CMAT 2021
- Number of students appearing for CMAT 2021
- Number of seats vacant in CMAT Participating Colleges
- Number of candidates clearing CMAT 2021 Cut Off
- Reservations - The reservations are 15%, 7.5%, 27%, 5% and 50.5% for SC, ST, OBC(NC), PwD and Gen respectively
Stage 2: CMAT Group Discussion
CMAT Group Discussion is conducted by the colleges as per the college’s admission criteria and the selection procedure adopted by the college. The Group Discussion is conducted to assess the candidates on the below-mentioned criteria:

- Candidates Verbal Ability
- Interpersonal Skills
- Leadership Skills
- Communication Skills
- Impression Management
Stage 3: CMAT Written Ability Test
In addition to the GD round, some institutes might also conduct a Written Ability Test (WAT) for CMAT Selection 2021. It will consist of essay writing and precis writing. It will test a candidate on the following aspects:
- Writing Skills
- English Grammar
- Interpretation skills
- Thinking and Analytical aptitude
- General Awareness
Stage 4: CMAT Personal Interview
CMAT Counseling will include a Personal Interview round conducted by every participating college at its campus. The Personal Interview may also be conducted via Skype/Meet/other online portals. The candidates will be judged based on the following aspects:
- Interpersonal Skills
- Verbal Skills
- Public Speaking Skills
- Ability to hold on to a conversation under pressure
- Ability to argue assertively
- Knowledge of Legal Aspects.
Stage 4: CMAT Final Selection
CMAT Final Selection is done on the basis of several factors such as Merit List, CMAT Cut Off, Number of Vacancies, performance in the Group Discussion and Personal Interview, reservations, and so on. The decision is made by the college and management based on various criteria defined by the college. Selected candidates will be required to come for document submission and verification. They will have to confirm their admission by booking their seat and paying the admission fee.

The students called for counselling have to report at the venue with the following documents/ certificates in original along with their Xerox copies:
- CMAT Admit Card
- CMAT merit list
- Class 10th marksheet and passing certificate (original and photocopy)
- Class 12th marksheet and passing certificate (original and photocopy)
- Application Forms
- Character Certificate
- Transfer Certification
- leaving certificate
- Scheduled Caste/ Tribe/ OBC (non-creamy layer)/ PH / CW certificate (if required)
- Six to eight passport size photographs
