What is CMAT Score?

What is CMAT Score?

The marks obtained by the candidates on the basis of the prescribed marking scheme are called CMAT scores. In other words, it is the sum total of marks obtained by the candidates in all four sections of CMAT 2021 Exam. To calculate the CMAT score, candidates can follow the below mentioned process:

  • CMAT Question Paper comprises 100 questions divided into 4 sections. The total time duration is 3 hours. However, in CMAT 2021 Exam, a new optional section consisting of 25 questions on Entrepreneurship and Innovation was added. For candidates who chose to attempt this section were given extra time of 0.5 hr.
  • Four marks are awarded for each question.
  • For each wrong or incorrect answer, one mark is deducted
  • For unanswered questions, no marks are awarded or deducted
  • The Total score is calculated by totaling the marks as per the number of questions answered.

CMAT Score Calculation

How to calculate CMAT Score?

Given below is a sample to calculate CMAT Score 2021:

Candidate Questions Answered Correct Answers Wrong Answers Marks for Correct Answers Marks for Wrong Answers CMAT Score
AA 100 75 25 75*4= 300 25*1= 25 300-25= 275
BB 88 80 8 80*4= 320 8*1= 8 320-8= 312

Any candidate can calculate his score as per this method. The sectional and overall score of the candidate is mentioned on CMAT 2021 Scorecard, which is available for download on the official website.

CMAT Percentile

What is CMAT Percentile?

The relative score which shows the percentage of candidates obtaining a lower score than a particular candidate is called the percentile in reference to CMAT. To put it differently, it is a measure of categorizing the candidates based on their performance. It shows the position obtained by candidates on the merit list.

Candidates must note that:

  • The percentile of the total score will not be the sum or average of the percentile of the individual subjects.
  • The percentile score will not be equal to the percentage of marks obtained.

Calculation of CMAT Percentile

The CMAT Percentile vs Score denotes the percentage of candidates that have scored equal to or below that particular CMAT percentile in the examination. Therefore the highest score taker of each session will get the same CMAT percentile of 100. The marks obtained in between the lowest and highest scores are also converted to appropriate CMAT percentiles.

Percentile scores are calculated up to 7 decimal places to avoid the bunching effect and reduce ties. The CMAT percentile score of a candidate is calculated on the basis of CMAT Score using the given formula:

Total Percentile (TP1) = 100 x (No. of candidates who appeared from the session with raw score EQUAL TO or LESS than T1 score/ Total No. of candidates who appeared in the session). However, The committee also has a proper formula to calculate the candidates’ percentile, which is: P=( 1 - All India rank( No. of candidates in that subject) x 100

An easy way for students to calculate their percentile on the basis of rank is by following the below-mentioned formula:

P= 100*{(Total number of candidates who appear for the exam – rank obtained)/Total number of candidates who appeared for the exam}. Perhaps, if there are around 10,000 candidates who appear for CMAT 2021 exam and one of the candidates secures 8th rank. Then his or her CMAT percentile will be

P = 10000-8/10000*100

The calculation brings us to 99.92. This means that his or her CMAT percentile of the exam will be 99.92. As you can see, percentiles of all the candidates will and are calculated in this way, using just this formula.

Rank Allocation Process

CMAT Rank Allocation Process

CMAT rank is decided on the basis of the candidate’s overall marks. But, there is a possibility that more than one candidate gets the same marks, then, In that case, the rank is allocated on the basis of the below-mentioned criteria:

  • In the case of a tie, ranking is based on the sectional scores as per the defined preference order.
  • The order of preference given to sections is:

Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation > Logical Reasoning > Language Comprehension > General Awareness.

So firstly, the scores in the section of Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation will be compared. Candidates with more marks in this section will be given preference. If the marks in this section are equal, then the candidate scoring more in the logical reasoning section will be preferred over other the candidate. This process will continue till the General Awareness section.

  • At last, if no conclusion can be drawn from the above method, then candidates with lesser negative marks or who are older in age will be given preference.

So, if one goes on to calculate the CMAT score, it is crucial to keep the above-mentioned points in mind. The All India Rank mentioned on the CMAT Merit List will be based on all these factors.

Ques. What is the CMAT cut off?

● Top Answer By Keshav Jindal on 28 Apr 21

Ans. CMAT is an entrance exam for students looking to pursue MBA or PGDM at AICTE approved management institutes. It is a three-hour computer-based test and it will assure you admission to AICTE approved MBA/PGDM courses. It is a moderately difficult exam and includes around 100 questions in total that are further divided into four sections. These are Quantitative techniques and Data interpretation, Language Comprehension, Logical Reasoning, and General Awareness. All of these sections constitute 25 questions each on the test. Moreover, if you are looking for a comparison, CMAT is quite easy as compared to CAT or XAT. Other than this, here are a few cutoffs for some of the popular colleges across the country for 2020: College Cutoff JIBMS Mumbai 99+ Goa Institute of Management 95+ KSOM, Bhubaneshwar 95+ Jaipuria Institute of Management 85+ IMT, Hyderabad & Nagpur 80+ Additionally, the selection procedure also varies from college to college. Each of them also has its own admission portal as well. It is advisable to go through the list of colleges and their admission portals before you plan to appear for the exam. Ques. What is the CMAT exam pattern like?

● Top Answer By Vidushi on 02 Feb 21

Ans. CMAT or Common Aptitude Management Test is a computer-based test conducted by NTA (previously by AICTE). This exam is of objective nature. The internal mentor of mine from TIME Institute informed us that the CMAT question paper contains 100 MCQs with four options each to choose the right answer from. You are allowed to submit your responses in 3 hours, following which the test window will be closed automatically. Similar to other management entrance tests, the exam has four sections: Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation: You need to focus on Arithmetic and Modern Maths and have strong basics and good familiarity with all possible questions that could be framed from these two topics.  Data Interpretation demands to focus on bar graphs and pie charts.  Along with this, you need to be comfortable and confident in topics such as Algebra, Mensuration, Geometry, Number Systems, Trigonometry, etc. Logical Reasoning It is an analytical way of thinking about a given problem statement, analyzing and evaluating information gathered from observation and experience, to reach certain conclusions.  Critical/Logical Reasoning clarifies goals considering certain assumptions, apprehends hidden values, and evaluates evidence to assess rational conclusions.  You should work on skills like observation, interpretation, analysis, inference, evaluation, estimation, and explanation. General Awareness General awareness includes topics on history, geography, current affairs – economic, business, sports, corporate events, etc.  Questions related to entertainment, politics, and the environment are also asked.  You are advised to stay updated with the recent important events happening in India and across the globe. You can follow good English dailies and good magazines such as The Hindu, Competition success review, etc. Language Comprehension Traditional reading comprehension is basically a paragraph with 5 questions revolving around the author’s viewpoint, idea, etc.  CMAT’s language comprehension would be easier as compared to that of other competitive exams, as direct questions would be asked.  Develop a habit of reading, as it will eventually build your Comprehension skills. Vocabulary includes Para-jumbles, Antonyms & Synonyms, and grammar (idioms & phrases, Sentence correction, Sentence completion, fill in the blanks, Interference & Judgement, Facts, analogy, etc). Here is an overview of the marking scheme: Subject No of questions Marks Quantitative Ability 25 100 Verbal Ability 25 100 Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation 25 100 General Awareness 25 100 Each section comprises 25 questions, where each question carries four marks. This makes each section weigh 100 marks equally and hence the entire exam is graded out of 400 marks. However, unanswered questions do not cause mark deductions. You are advised to take more and more mock tests for CMAT, to get more familiar with the exam pattern, and to develop the required temperament for the exam.Read more

At this score, your percentile will be around 1-6, hence you won’t be able to clear the cutoff of the exam. This will seriously reduce your chances of getting admission to government management colleges in India on the basis of your CMAT scores.
