GMAT 2020: Eligibility, Criteria, Age Criteria

    Every year more than 2lakhs students appear for GMAT. Graduate Management Aptitude Council (GMAC) conducts this exam through Pearson VUE centers. Across the world there are more than 573 test centers. Candidates should follow a few eligibility criteria to appear for GMAT.

    • Candidates should graduate from a recognized university
    • Candidates with any nationality can appear for exam
    • One should be minimum of 18 years of age

    GMAT 2020: Documents Required

    Candidates who are planning to appear for GMAT need to have documents beforehand because all these details are required while filling up the registration form

    • Applicant’s name with proper spelling as written on passport
    • Contact details (email id and telephone)
    • Demographic information- gender, ethnicity, DOB, Citizenship
    • Payment details
    • Identify data verified or collected at the test center such as government issued identification, digital photograph, signature, palm vein pattern

    Candidates can appear for GMAT anytime in the year and can book the slot as per convenience.

    GMAT 2020: Eligibility Factors

    Nationality

    People across the nations can appear for GMAT. Guidelines as written by GMAC are implemented equally to everyone despite being the country they belong. Different test centers have specific rules regarding identity proof to be produced at the time of exam. Suppose a test taker from India has to produce a passport as the ID proof at the time of GMAT.

    Educational Qualification

    It is advisable that the test takers appearing for GMAT should have graduated from a recognized university. There are a lot of GMAT test takers who are working professionals. From the data analyzed by the GMAC, it is seen that the top business schools prefer all those candidates who have work experience. Mostly students from the final year of bachelors appear for GMAT.

    Age Limit

    GMAC has not mentioned any upper limit of age for the candidate. Mostly it is preferred to have the age of 18 years. If a test taker appears for GMAT between 13 and 17 years then one needs a permission letter on behalf of parents. Every year many test takers appear for GMAT who are above 30 years of age.

    Minimum cut-offs

    To appear for GMAT, there is no cut off marks to appear for GMAT. In all the top business schools of the USA or UK, GMAT score is considered as an admission requirement. Before appearing for exam, test takers should know the different GMAT score bands for business schools.

    Work Experience

    Every year there are many test takers who appear for GMAT with a minimum of 3-4 years of work experience. Like academic qualification, there is no minimum or maximum years for work experience to take the exam. Even a fresher can take admission in the top business schools with a better profile. Top business schools prefer those candidates who have experience in the industry. After initiating application process, admission committee always evaluates the work experience of the applicant and how it will be related to future business world.

    Attempting limit for GMAT

    There are few requirements in attempting GMAT.

    • One can appear for GMAT exam again only 16 days after scheduled date
    • In a period of 1 year, candidate can only appear GMAT for 5 times
    • In a lifetime, test taker can attempt the exam only 8 times
    • If an applicant has scored a perfect GMAT score which is the possible highest score, must wait for 5 years to retake the exam
    • For each GMAT attempt, test taker has to register for it

    Medium of Instruction

    If a candidate who belongs to any other nation which has native language other than English can also appear for GMAT. Most of these test takers have to take IELTS or TOEFL for English language proficiency. Through proper preparation one can ace the exam perfectly.

    Other Criteria

    • There is no specific field of studies that are preferred as GMAT eligibility
    • No one is required to study specific subject at school level to appear for GMAT

    GMAT Dates 

    Registration is completely online and can be done from the official website of GMAC, mba.com. After registration, a candidate can schedule a GMAT test according to his convenience and can also pick a test center of their choice.

    Candidates need to submit a payment of USD 250 or INR 15,868 as of application fee for the examination.

    GMAT Reservation Criteria

    Special reservation criteria’s are provided for students with disabilities. There are following measures that a candidate needs to fulfill to acclaim this provision-

    GMAT test taker, you are responsible for documenting all of the following with your application-

    • The existence of an impairment that substantially limits a major life activity as compared with most people.
    • The current impact of your impairment and how it limits your ability to take the computer- Adaptive GMAT exam under standard condition.
    • A rational for why the accommodation is/are necessary and appropriate relative to your impairment

    • learning and Cognitive disorder
    • Physical and systematic disabilities
