GPAT (Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test) is a national level entrance exam conducted for the candidates seeking admission in master’s level pharmacy programs. GPAT is conducted and managed by the NTA (National Testing Agency). GPAT 2021 Exam Dates have been announced, and Application forms are available until January 22, 2021. Before applying for the exam candidates should go through GPAT 2021 Eligibility Criteria and check whether they are eligible or not. The basic eligibility for candidates appearing in GPAT 2021 is a Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy.

Eligibility Criteria for GPAT 2021

Candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria notified by NTA can only appear for GPAT 2021 exam. In order to appear for GPAT 2021, candidates should fulfill the below GPAT 2021 eligibility criteria:

Nationality

The candidates willing to appear for GPAT must be Indian citizens.

Qualifying Examination

  • Aspirants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (B. Pharm) of 4 years after their 10+2.
  • The lateral entry candidates should also possess a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy of 4 years duration after their 10+2.
  • Candidates in the final/fourth year of the Graduate Pharmacy Programme are also eligible to appear for the GPAT 2021.
  • It must be noted that Bachelor of Pharmacy students from the first to the third year is not eligible to take the GPAT 2021 exam.

Age criteria

There are no age restriction criteria specified by NTA to appear for GPAT 2021 exam.


Eligibility for PwD Candidates

As per the Persons with Disability (PwD) Act, 1995, a candidate appearing for GPAT exam, qualifies to be a PwD candidate if he/she is suffering from any of the below listed disabilities. The extent of physical disability should be at least 40% as prescribed by a recognized medical committee.

The categories for PwD candidates as defined by the NTA are discussed below:

  • Physically handicapped
  • Visually impaired
  • Hearing impairment
  • Dumb

Persons with Disability candidates are also provided with approved means of teaching assistants, as chosen by the candidate on his/her application form. The form of teaching assistance provided for different types of the PwD candidates is presented below in the table:

Visually impaired and cerebral palsy candidates are allowed to bring a reader/scribe as per the scribe form mentioned on the GPAT website. Moreover, candidates can also avail the scribe facility from the NTA.

Candidates opting for scribe/reader will be given the opportunity to interact with them a day before the GPAT 2021 examination. Once the candidate has met with his/her scribe, he/she will be required to submit an undertaking regarding the same.

It must be noted that candidates with scribes/readers will be provided with a time extension of one hour for the computer-based exam.


Eligibility for Scribe/Reader

GPAT 2021 Eligibility Criteria for a Scribe/Reader 

Any visually challenged candidate who wants to opt for a scribe/reader is required to fulfill certain eligibility criteria. GPAT 2021 eligibility criteria for a scribe/reader is as follows:

  • He/she is not involved in any academic tutoring/preparation for the test to be administered
  • He/she must not be a family member/member of the candidate
  • He/she has academic qualification lower than that of the candidate
  • He/she should not have attained the age of 19 years of age as on January 17, 2021

NOTE: It must be noted that the age certificate of the scribe must be presented at the test center.

Candidates must note that in case any of the above-mentioned criteria are not met by the scribe/reader, then he/she will not be permitted to assist the PwD candidate for the GPAT 2021 exam.

GPAT 2021 Reservation

All the Institutes run by the Government body and accepting GPAT 2021 Score provides reservation for candidates belonging to OBC (NCL), SC and ST category, apart from that certain seats are also reserved for candidates belonging to economically weaker section (EWS) and PwD category. Candidates should note that to claim any of the above mentioned reservations, they will have to submit an original caste and category certificate issued by competent authority.

Ques. Is there any age restriction for appearing in GPAT?

Ans.  No, there is no upper age limit for appearing in GPAT.

Ques. I belong to Mumbai. I want to take admission in B. Pharmacy. Should I need to appear in GPAT 2021? Is the test valid for Maharashtra students?

Ans.  GPAT 2021 is not meant for getting admission into B. Pharmacy course for any state in India. For admission into B. Pharm course, every state has a policy. GPAT 2021 is valid for all the states and Union Territories in India for admissions into postgraduate in Pharmacy courses.

Ques. I am a B. Pharmacy third-year student. Am I eligible for GPAT 2021?

Ans.  No, only candidates who are in the final year of B.Pharm course and the candidates who have completed the course earlier are eligible.

Ques. I am a Nepali student studying in B. Pharmacy final year in India. Can I appear in GPAT 2021 examination?

Ans.  Yes, you can appear in GPAT 2021 examination but your admission into a PG course in pharmacy and scholarship will be governed by the rules and norms set by MHRD, Government of India.

Ques. I belong to SC/ST category. How many seats in M. Pharm are reserved for SC/ST category students? OR If I qualify in GPAT 2021 Examination then am I assured of scholarship in M. Pharm?

Ans.  Qualifying in GPAT 2021 examination with a scorecard having “Qualified for scholarship and admission into M. Pharmacy” is the minimum eligibility condition for getting a scholarship in M. Pharm course. There are no reservation criteria for GPAT 2021 admissions. Seats of M. Pharm are reserved as per state/central government policy. Scholarship to the GPAT 2021 qualified candidates would be given by AICTE as per the rules/norms prevailing at that time.

Ques. Am I eligible for registration for Ph. D. after qualifying in GPAT 2021 examination?

Ans.  GPAT 2021 scorecard is valid for 3 year. This scorecard is valid only for pursuing the M.Pharm course. However, if a candidate completes the M.Pharm course and is interested in PhD degree then this scorecard is valid for 1 more year. And applicants need not appear in any Ph.D. entrance examination.

Ans. For admissions in post-graduate programs at NIPER, candidates have to qualify for the GPAT exam to appear for NIPER- JEE exam. A good GPAT rank is not an important requirement for NIPER- Mohali. This is a scoring subject so try to cover it properly to get a good rank. The best way to prepare for the GPAT exam is to have a proper timetable. Try to make a timetable you will adhere to so that you can prepare consistently. Preparing in order to clear the cutoff is another common mistake. Many aspirants try to score just enough to clear the cutoff which is not a great idea as cutoffs tend to differ every year. Hi Sonal, yes, students in final year of this course may apply for GPAT exam. However, it is required that the student must produce their marksheet of final year by the time of admission.

Hi Nagi, candidates who have qualified GATE/GPAT/NET/JRF are eligible for fellowship during their P.hD program which is sponsored by UGC. However, GPAT score on which one gets scholarship varies from college to college and availability of seats in them. Thus, you would have to apply first in the college/university from which you want to do P.hD and following its policies, scholarship will be provided.

Sir I am from Andhra pradesh ,I have ncc c certificate, can I get any reservation in gpat2020? If so how can I use my ncc certificate while applying for gpat2020?

Hi Jyothi, yes, you can claim for reservation benefits under NCC category. You will have to mention this category while filling up the application form and also will have to upload the concerned certificate for the same.
