IAS Exam 2018 Cut Off

Every year UPSC (Union Public Services Commission) conducts IAS Exam to recruit eligible candidates for the rank of IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS and other Group A and Group B All India Services. Results for UPSC Prelims have been released on September 16, 2018. Candidates who have made it to the IAS Cut Off set by the Commission will proceed to the UPSC Mains which is due to be held in the month of December, 2018.

IAS Exam Result for Mains will be declared in February, 2018. Those candidates who make it to the IAS cut off set by UPSC for IAS Main will then be called for interview session in the month of May, 2018. The final merit list will be prepared keeping in record, candidate’s performance in the UPSC Mains and the Personality Test i.e. Interview. Candidate’s IAS Exam Result for Prelims will not be taken into consideration while preparing Final merit list.

Expected IAS Cut off

UPSC Prelims Cut off has not yet been released by the commission. The cut off will be based on the candidate’s performance in UPSC Prelims. IAS Cut off will also be released for candidates who will be called for interview after the declaration of IAS Results for UPSC Mains. Here is the expected IAS cut off for this year:

Previous Year IAS Cut off

Cut off for IAS 2018 is determined on the factors such as number of candidates who sat for the examination, number of seats available for various posts, level of difficulty of examination, reservations, marking schemes, etc. Keeping in mind the convenience of the candidates, we are giving detailed cut offs of the previous year IAS Exam Cut off:

IAS Cut off 2014

The candidates can check the IAS Cut off for the previous years to predict the minimum qualifying marks to be shortlisted for the further stages of the IAS Selection Process. The candidates can claim the IAS Reservation during the IAS Selection Process. The table below gives the minimum cut off marks for various categories:

UPSC Prelims

Final selection for IAS Exam

IAS Exam Results

IAS Exam Results for UPSC Prelims which was conducted on August 07, 2018 have been declared on September 16th, 2018. These results have been made available on the official website of the commission in a pdf file format. The list of candidates who have qualified for the UPSC mains Examination contains roll numbers and name of the candidates. UPSC Marksheet for Prelims will be out only after the Final merit list is declared by the Commission.

IAS Exam Result for Mains will be declared in the month of February, 2018 and on the basis of the marks scored in the UPSC Mains, candidates will be called for the interview. A final merit list will be prepared taking into consideration the IAS Mains marks and marks scored in Personality Test i.e. Interview. The final list can be expected to be out in May, 2018 after the personality test which will be commenced in March, 2018.

How to download IAS Exam Results?

The final merit list will be uploaded on the official website in the month of May, 2018. However, candidates can check their IAS Exam Result for Prelims by following the given below steps:

  • Visit the official website of UPSC.
  • Next, look for the result link for UPSC Prelims 2018.
  • A PDF displaying theIAS Exam Results appears on screen from which the candidates must find their roll number.

Similarly, if candidate has successfully qualified for mains examination of UPSC Civil Services, he/she will appear for it in the month of December, 2018. Candidate can access to IAS Results for Mains in February, 2018 by following the steps given above.


IAS Selection Process

Selection of candidates for IAS Exam is a three stage process:

  • UPSC Prelims
  • UPSC Mains
  1. Written examination
  2. Interview
  • Final selection

Candidates who will qualify in the UPSC Prelims will be eligible to sit for UPSC Mains and from there qualifying candidates will be called for interview and final merit list will be prepared henceforth. Here are the details of the IAS Selection Procedure followed by UPSC for IAS Exam:

UPSC Prelims

IAS Prelims was scheduled on August 07, 2018. Candidates will qualify for the UPSC Mains after the commission releases IAS cut off. IAS Prelims comprises multiple choice questions for total of 200 marks. Candidates must know that marks secured in Preliminary exam for IAS will not be taken into consideration for preparation of final merit list. Those candidates who qualify the UPSC Prelims will be eligible to sit for the Mains of IAS Exam.

The Commission will draw a list of candidates to be qualified for UPSC Mains based on the criterion of minimum qualifying marks of 33% in General Studies Paper-II of UPSC Prelims and total qualifying marks of General Studies Paper-I of UPSC Prelims. IAS Cut off for Mains of IAS Exam will be released on the basis of aggregate marks obtained in Paper-I out of 200 marks and marks obtained in Paper-II out of 200 marks. The maximum marks on English Language and Comprehension will be deducted.

UPSC Mains

UPSC Mains is slated to be conducted in 2 parts namely, written examination and interview. Candidates who have qualified in the UPSC Prelims will be eligible to sit for the written examination of UPSC Mains. Written examination is held for 3 hours and the candidates who qualify it successfully are called for interview or personality test by the Commission.

Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of his/her career records that will be presented in front of the Commission that will conduct the interview. Interview of IAS Exam will carry 275 marks and there will not be any qualifying marks in this round. The board will examine the candidate’s personality and suitability for the services that he/she has applied hence the questions will be asked accordingly.

Final Selection

Final selection for various All India Services will be done on the basis of the marks secured by candidate in UPSC Mains and Interview session. The candidates will be allotted the services according to the final score and preferences selected by them in the earlier stages. Marks scored in UPSC Prelims will not be included while preparing the Final Merit List. Candidates will be able to access the final merit list on the official website.
