JoSAA Counselling 2019: Counselling for JEE Main and JEE Advanced

JoSAA Counselling 2019: Joint Seat Allocation Authority will announce the seat allocation results of JoSAA 2019 for all the rounds. To access the seat allocation result, submit your JEE Main Roll Number and Password. The allotted candidates can download their provisional allotment letter and pay the seat acceptance fee within the stipulated dates.

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) conducts JEE Main Counselling for admission to 100 participating colleges (23 IITs, 31 NITs, 23 IIITs and 23 Other-GFTIs). All the candidates who wll appear in JEE Main 2019 will be eligible to register for seat allocation in NIT, IIEST, IIIT and GFTIs. While candidates who have qualified JEE Advanced, are eligible to register for seat allocation in all participating Institutes.

The registration process for JoSAA counselling will conclude in March (January session) and June (April session) respectively. Those who would write AAT can fill their choice from March 18 (tentative). The round 1 of JoSAA Counselling will be held in the 1st week of March. There will be a total of 7 rounds of counselling.

JoSAA Counselling begins after the declaration of JEE Advanced Result. Candidates who do not register within the specified time window will not be able to seek admission for this academic year. Latest Update: NTA will be conducting JEE Main from 2019 onwards. The exam will be held twice a year in online (computer-based) mode in January and April. There will be no change in the pattern and syllabus of the examination. It will make exams safe, leak-proof, scientific & transparent. JoSAA 2019 Eligibility Criteria

For those seeking admission through JoSAA Counselling 2019, following eligibility conditions are mandatorily required:

  1. Qualifying JEE Advanced 2019 for academic programs [excluding the preparatory courses] at IITs.
OR
  1. Qualification in JEE Advanced 2019 for preparatory courses at IITs and must satisfactory performance in Class 12 (or equivalent) examination.
OR
  1. They should fulfill the following eligibility to appear for the counselling for B.E or B.Tech Program:
  • A rank in JEE Main 2019 Paper-1 for B.E./B.Tech. Programs at NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and Other-GFTIs
  • Passed Class 12 (or equivalent) exam with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational subject.
  • Candidates must obtain at least 45% [for general categories] or 40% [for reserved categories] in each subject.
OR
  1. Candidates should satisfy the following eligibility to apply for counselling for the Architecture Program:
  • Secure a rank in JEE Main 2019 Paper-2 for B.Arch./B.Planning programs at NITs, IIEST, IIITs and Other-GFTIs
  • Have Mathematics as one of the subjects in Class 12 (or equivalent) examination
  • Have obtained 50% aggregate marks irrespective of the category, in five subjects including Mathematics.

Instructions for JoSAA Registration

The website of JoSAA can be best viewed in Firefox 3.5 and above, IE 9 and above, Chrome 18 and above. 

  • Take a printout of the final locked choices for submission during reporting.
  • For security reasons, Logout the session and close all the windows related to your session.
  • Keep changing the Password at frequent intervals.

JoSAA Counselling Registration

The stepwise guideline for JoSAA Registration is discussed below. The choice filling commences with online registration and creating candidates’ profile.

Step 1: Online Registration

  • Click on “Online Registering and Choice Filling” at official JoSAA Website.
  • Enter JEE Main 2019 Roll Number and Password.

Step 2: Changing Password

  • Go to Candidate’s Profile and ensure that all the personal details shown are correct
  • Click on Change Password tab and complete this compulsory process.
  • Click on “Submit Changes”

Step 3: Choice Filling

  • Click on “Choices Available” to view choices available

NOTE: For those who qualify both JEE Main 2019 and JEE Advanced 2019, all choices are available (Few courses have certain restrictions). Those who will qualify only in JEE Main 2019, Choices are restricted to programs available in NITs, IIITs and Other-GFTIs. You can choose to view the available programs Institute-wise or discipline-wise.

Step 4: Choice Locking

  • Next, go to ‘Choice Filling & Locking’, fill as many choices to enhance your chances of getting a seat.
  • Modify the order of preference by clicking on Choices Inter Change and Click on Lock Choice thereafter.
  • Click on I agree to lock my choices, sign the declaration as final consent and take its print out.

JoSAA 2019 Fee

  • The application fee for General and Foreign category candidates is INR 45,000
  • Candidates belonging to SC, ST, Gen-PwD, OBC – NCL –PwD, SC – PwD or ST – PwD category must pay INR 20,000
  • JoSAA Fee Payment can be made via two modes online (Debit/ Credit Card or Net Banking) and Offline (by Cash) mode.
  • For Offline Mode, select “SBI branch” option to generate e-challan. Take its print out and make payment at the nearest SBI branch via challan.

Seat Allotment is done for those who qualify in both JEE Main and JEE Advanced. The allotment is done in a sequence, wherein all students are provided academic programs at IITs and IIITs. For Home State candidates, seat us allotted for academic programs at NITs.


Documents Required

For seat acceptance, candidates have to bring the following set of ORIGINAL documents, wherever applicable, and a set of self-attested photocopies to the reporting centre. The documents must be arranged in the following order. After document verification, photocopies will be retained by the Reporting Centre and the original documents will be returned. The format of the required documents is available at JoSAA portal (Business Rules).

Documents Required for NIT + GFTIs

  1. Three passport size photographs identical to the one uploaded during JEE Main 2019 registration
  2. Class XII performance check (Check Format)
  3. Provisional seat allotment letter
  4. Undertaking by the candidate (Check Format)
  5. Proof of seat acceptance fee payment by online net banking of State Bank of India (SBI), debit cards issued ONLY by SBI and E-Challan by SBI [For SC/ST/PwD: Rs. 15,000/- For others: Rs. 35,000/-]
  6. Photo identity card [issued by govt. agency/last attended school/Class XII admit card]
  7. Admit card of JEE (Main) 2019
  8. Score card of JEE (Main) 2019 
  9. Date of birth proof (Class X marks sheet)
  10. Class XII (or equivalent) board marks sheet. If available, pass certificate
  • “State code of eligibility” is determined using qualifying examination certificate.
  • Indian nationals who passed the qualifying examination from Nepal/Bhutan or an institution abroad must bring passport. Permanent address given in the passport will determine state code.
  • The candidates having SSC from the National Open School must bring the proof of place of examination center of the final examination to determine the state code.

  2. Category certificate (OBC-NCL/SC/ST), if applicable (Check Format)

JoSAA Counselling 2019 Tie Breaker

At the time of JoSAA counselling, if multiple students of the same category have the same rank, and the number of seats are filled, there is provision for seats being supernumerary. Admission to those students will be accomplished by extending the number of seats for that particular rank.

JoSAA 2019 Seat Allotment in IITs

Different set of rules have been devised for seat allocation of different category students to specific courses. The details of those courses and student category are mentioned below:

DS (Defence Service) students:

  1. De-reservation of Unfilled category seats under JoSAA Counselling 2019
  • In IITs two seats will be allocated to DS students.
  • He/she must be in the Common Rank List (CRL) 
  • Such students will be included under their birth category along with the DS category.
  1. Foreign Candidates
  • Candidates with foreign tag will be considered under GEN category
  • They must be in the CRL and fulfill all the requirements of eligibility for the GEN category.
  • Seats allocated to them will have the provision of being supernumerary.
  • The number of supernumerary seats will be 10% of the total number of seats.
  • The foreign candidates will not be considered under JoSAA counselling for admission to NITs, IIEST, IIITs (Triple-I-Ts) and Other-GFTIs.
  1.  Preparatory Courses
  • Unfilled OPEN-PwD seats will be allocated to applicants in CRL-PwD preparatory rank list in case no more applicants in the CRL-PwD rank list have opted for it.
  • OBC-NCL-PwD seats that remain unfilled will be allocated to applicants in OBC-NCL-PwD preparatory rank list in case no more applicants in the OBC-NCL-PwD rank list have opted for it.
  • The SC-PwD seats that remain unfilled will be allocated to applicants in the SC-PwD preparatory rank list in case no more applicants in the SC-PwD rank list have opted for it.
  • Unfilled ST-PwD seats will be allocated in ST-PwD preparatory rank list.
  • SC seats remaining vacant will be allocated to applicants in the SC preparatory rank list.
  • The remaining unfilled ST seats will be allocated to applicants in the ST preparatory rank list in case no more applicants in the ST rank list have opted for it.
  • Remaining OBC category seats will be de-reserved and considered as OPEN category seats in every round of seat allocation.
  • There will be no de-reservation for SC/ST category seats.

JoSAA Minimum Marks Qualifying Criteria

Candidates belonging to different categories have to score a minimum score in the qualifying examination as well as in class 12 exams to participate in JoSAA Counselling. Mentioned below is the category-wise minimum marks in JoSAA 2019:

Hi Akash, JoSAA 2018 Fee

  • The application fee for General and Foreign category candidates is INR 45,000
  • Candidates belonging to SC, ST, Gen-PwD, OBC – NCL –PwD, SC – PwD or ST – PwD category must pay INR 20,000
  • JoSAA Fee Payment can be made via two modes online (Debit/ Credit Card or Net Banking) and Offline (by Cash) mode.
  • For Offline Mode, select “SBI branch” option to generate e-challan. Take its print out and make payment at the nearest SBI branch via challan.

Hi Richa, NO, joSAA does not conduct spot round.however, CSAB might conduct a counseling round to fill the vacant seat, after the rounds of joSAA seat allotment.
