Gujarat Parents’ and students associated has filed a plea in the Supreme Court to hold the two exams JEE Main and NEET, as scheduled in September. Parents and students convey that other exams conducted by NTA are being held as scheduled therefore JEE Main 2020 and NEET should also be held without any more delay, as these exams are crucial for the lives and careers of lakhs of students. Earlier this week, IWPA wrote a petiton to MHRD for postponement of NEET and JEE Main 2020. However, MHRD and NTA have not responded to the request yet therefore India Wide Parents Association is going to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), possibly today itself. They have demanded the further rescheduling of JEE Main 2020 and NEET to December 2020. As per the Parents’ Association, students are facing immense stress and anxiety and therefore the exams must be further postponed for which the announcement should come soon.
India Wide Parents Association (IWPA) has written a petition to MHRD urging them to further postpone JEE Main 2020 and NEET until the situation in the country with reference to COVID-19 is normal. With the cases rising heavily everyday and both national level exams scheduled in September, parents are not willing to compromise the safety of their children. Although MHRD has taken a number of steps like increasing the exam centers and ensuring the implementation of the safety guidelines for test takers yet concerns for over all 25 lakh aspirants appearing for the exams this September are obvious. Due to current circumstances and in the wake of several boards cancelling their pending papers, CSAB has dropped the eligibility criteria for a candidate to have at least 75% marks in board or be in the top 20 percentile of the class 12 exams for admissions to NITs and other CFTIs, this year. Candidates who clear JEE Main 2020 will now only need their 12th passing certificate for admissions, irrespective of the score obtained by them. IITs have already informed the relaxation in percentage criteria for admissions this year, earlier this month. The relaxation was informed by HRD Minister through a thread of tweets.
Earlier NTA had issued a guideline for candidates appearing for both JEE Main coming session and UPSC NDA. NTA informed the candidates who are also appearing for NDA and NA Examination (I) on September 6, 2020 to update a ‘YES’ in their JEE Main application form to avoid clashes in the exam dates. However, for candidates who couldn’t update their JEE Main Application Form as per the guideline, NTA will ensure that both the exam dates don’t clash as ensured by HRD Minister through a tweet on July 21.
Along with the postponement of these two entrance exams, NTA has also reopened the application form correction facility. Due to the prevailing condition of COVID-19, HRD Minister has postponed JEE Main and NEET exams in September. According to the message shared by the HRD Minister, JEE Main 2020 is now scheduled to be held from September 1 to September 6, 2020. Whereas, JEE Advanced 2020 exam is scheduled to be conducted on September 27, 2020. Therefore, aspirants can expect JEE Main results to be announced quickly within one or two weeks of the exam being conducted i.e. September 15, 2020.

With the lockdown extended in several states, the uncertainty of JEE Main and NEET 2020 exam date has grown further. Several parents are writing to the examination council to postpone the entrance exams due to the extended lockdown in several states. The Central government has also issued guidelines for Unlock 2 on June 30, 2020. With metro services on a halt, it would be challenging for the students to reach the exam centers if JEE Main and NEET exams are conducted. Many students need to use public transport to reach the center as not every aspirant can afford to hire a private vehicle. The wait of students over the examination dates continues as the authorities are yet to announce the final schedule.
The HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has confirmed that as of now there is no change in the dates of JEE Main and NEET 2020. As per the report, Pokhriyal has explained that the authorities will “try to conduct” both the entrance examinations on the pre-decided dates. However, depending on the situation due to COVID-19 in the country, the authorities may take a second review in the first week of July 2020 on whether to conduct or postpone the entrance examinations.
As per the report, after conducting multiple meetings with officials from the Ministry, the common issue that has come out is the Supreme Court’s decision on pending Board exams. As it will have a large impact on the competitive exams like JEE Main and NEET. Therefore, any decision about these entrance exams will be taken only after a final order passed by the Supreme Court.
Due to an increase in the number of cases of COVID-19, most of the parents and students are demanding to cancel the JEE entrance exams. As per the report, IITs are not in support of canceling the JEE entrance exams. Sarit K Das, Director, IIT Ropar said,” Cancelling JEE Main and Advanced is not an option because admission to IITs is a serious matter and institutes have to admit students. Instead of those who are running a campaign, it is better to pay attention to those who are preparing hard to crack the exam”. He also added that the rescheduling of the exam can be an option in case the pandemic worsens.
MHRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal stated in a tweet that Mock Test facility on National Test Abhyas App will be available in Hindi as well. Earlier the facility was available in the English language only. The decision has been taken due to concern raised by students and popularity gained by the app after it's launch. More than 10 lakh aspirants have downloaded the app and the total 26 papers available have been attempted 17 lakh times.
According to a report of Indian Express, internal discussions, and consultations with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the health ministry have already been ongoing to reschedule the national level engineering and medical entrance examinations. The HRD Minister held a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss these issues. Further, another meeting has been planned with health minister Harsh Vardhan for Saturday evening on this issue. Moreover, NTA has also not been able to come to a definite conclusion on these entrance exams. As per the report, no decision has been made yet and everything will be decided by the next few days.
As per the recent media reports, Odisha CM has suggested that the national level entrance exams like JEE Main 2020 should be conducted only after the completion of state board examinations of class 12. CM Naveen Patnaik is concerned that candidates should have adequate time to prepare for both the exams. The chief minister has also pointed out that in case the aspirants do not pass the board exam but qualify the entrance examination the seat will be wasted.
The admission process to HPTU will not take place through Himachal Pradesh Common Entrance Test (HPCET) this year. It will consider JEE Main 2020 rank along with class 12th examination scores for candidates who want to enroll in B.Tech programs. As per the report, the admission to the first 50% of the seats will be given according to the candidate’s performance in JEE Main. Whereas, for the remaining 50% of the college seats, the Himachal Pradesh Technical University will consider candidates on merit basis for the admission purpose.

On this basis, a final decision will be taken in July to get the JEE Main and NEET examinations done. All the Central Technical Institutes of the country except the IITs will commence the initial stage of the admission process from the last week of July 2020. This year, MNNIT will get counselling from JEE Main to get admission into NITs across the country. The Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) Chairman and Director Prof. discussed the possible dates of admission to the meeting. Prof. Tripathi said if everything goes well, the result of JEE Main is likely to be announced in the last week of July. The result of JEE Advanced can be declared in the month of August. He also said that if the admission process starts as per the schedule then online counseling will start from mid-September. After this, the online seat allocation process will also start.
National Testing Agency (NTA) has received approx 20,000 applications from students who dropped their plans to study abroad for JEE during a special registration drive that ended in May 2020. Union HRD Minister said, “I was very happy to hear they now want to study in India and chart their academic journey in local colleges”, after receiving multiple requests from students and parents, following which the special JEE initiative was started. NTA Director-General Vineet Joshi said the special window for registration ended on May 31, 2020. “We too were surprised to see so many applications coming,” he said. Further, he added, in any normal year, these students would have already completed their "study abroad” formalities. Due to the situation worldwide (COVID-19), now the students want to continue with studies in India.
Students are preparing and appearing for tests on the app for JEE Main and NEET 2020 entrance examination. HRD Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal said that 11.21 lakh students have given mock tests on it. More than 6.5 lakh aspirants have downloaded te National Test Abhyas App. During the release of NIRF 2020 ranking, he said in just 30 minutes, more than 8,900 candidates had used it. He also added that coaching centers have now come on student’s mobiles through this app. A few days ago, it was found that 45 percent of the total users of the app belong to semi-urban and rural areas. 37 percent of the aspirants are those who do not have private coaching facilities around them.
JEE Main 2020 application form has been reopened from May 19 to May 24, 2020, for the candidates who dropped their study abroad plans due to COVID-19 Pandemic. The Minister of Human Resource Development, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank announced the news on social media saying “ I have advised the Director-General of NTA to give one more opportunity to candidates to submit new/complete online JEE Main 2020 application forms”.

Gujarat Board (GSEB) has released a compilation of question banks for all the subjects that are part of JEE Main and NEET 2020 Exam. The question bank has been released by the Gujarat Board on the official website i.e. gujarat-education gov.in website. Along with the question bank, the state board has also released a chapter-wise question paper for the students. The board has released the question bank for four subjects i.e, Physics, Chemsitry, Biology and Mathematics. The Question bank is available only in English and Gujarati Languages. It will help the candidates to prepare well and to get an idea about the questions asked in the entrance examination. News of the revised exam schedule of JEE Main 2020 being circulated on social media has been declared “FAKE” by the National Testing Agency. It says that JEE Main has been further postponed to the first week of July, 2020 and the confirmed dates will be shared on the official website. Also, the admit cards will be issued after May 31, 2020. NTA has come up and issued an official notice calling the circulated news as fake. BIE Telangana has launched a free online mock test platform for students who will appear for JEE Main and NEET entrance examinations. The online mock test platform will be holding daily, weekly, and grand mock test series for various upcoming engineering and medical entrance exams. Considering the on-going lockdown of COVID-19, these online classes will help the aspirants to prepare for the exams. Candidates who are going to appear for NEET and JEE Main 2020 can join the mock test series by visiting the official website of Telangana Inter Board. The Test will be available in English and Telugu languages only and mock tests can be accessible through smartphones by downloading the mobile application. HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishak has launched the National Test Abhyaas Appfor the students to prepare for JEE Main 2020 and NEET 2020. He also tweeted that in the National Abhyaas application, one full question paper of three hours will be available each day, for both JEE Main and NEET. Aspirants can take the test anytime as per their convenience, get immediate scores, correct answers with explanations, and analyse the time spent on each section,’’he further added.The App will help students to prepare for these entrance exams efficiently and is available on android. National Testing Agency (NTA) will provide compensatory 1 hour (in addition to 3 hours) for candidates with benchmark disabilities, irrespective whether a candidate avails the facility of Scribe or not. However, it shall be the responsibility of the concerned candidate to prove before the authorities that he/she actually is covered under the category of benchmark disabilities and the certificate produced by the candidate is genuine. In order to help the aspirants crack engineering and medical entrance examinations, the Tripura government decided to introduce a new scheme “Super 30” from 2020-2021 academic year. Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath said, It will also help the students to take coaching from Kota-based coaching centers to crack engineering and medical entrance examinations evey year. Therfore, these students will be selected on merit. However, Reservation policy in selecting the candidates will also be followed. The scheme will be launched on pilot basis that involves Rs 2.40 lakh coaching for each candidate on an average per annum. Passing percentage of Class 12th examinations was 80.51%, while the Science stream was 88.85% conducted by the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE). The selected candidate must have an annual family income less than Rs. 8 Lakh to avail the benefit.
After the press release, the authorities have declared that JEE Main 2020 will be conducted in Hindi, English and Gujarati Language only. They have also mentioned that, the translation of JEE Main question paper in Gujarati language continued on the request of Gujarat State. As no other states have approached NTA for the same. Therefore, JEE Main exam will not be conducted in any other Indian National Language.
The Authorities also mentioned that the request to opt JEE Main question paper in regional languages was sent to all the states but only one state responded. In this view, the press release says, “The request was sent to all the States in the year 2013 itself. Only the Gujarat state agreed to admit their candidates in State Engineering Colleges of Gujarat through JEE Main and requested that JEE Main paper be made available in Gujarati language”.

May 19, 2020: National Testing Agency has reopened the window to fill and submit JEE Main 2020 Application forms. Candidates can now submit their fresh application forms from May 19 to May 24, 2020 (till 5:00 PM). Also the payment of application fee will be accepted upto 11:50 PM on May 24, 2020. May 5, 2020: HRD Minister, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal has announced the revised exam schedule for JEE Main 2020 April session. The exam will be conducted from July 18 to July 23, 2020 in two shifts i.e. First shift (9:00AM-12:00 Noon) and Second shift (3:00 PM to 6:00 PM). April 14, 2020: The authorities have further extended the last date to edit and make corrections in the application forms. Candidates will also access the facility tochange the exam centers of JEE Main 2020 till May 3, 2020.
April 9, 2020: NTA provided the application form correction facility for the candidates to change their exam centers. Candidates can now change their exam centers till April 14, 2020 without having to pay any fee for it.
April 1, 2020: NTA has again reopened the application form correction facility for JEE Main 2020. Last date to edit the application form is April 14, 2020. March 31, 2020: Now, JEE Main 2020 will be conducted in the last week of May 2020. Director General NTA has released a notification stating that the final schedule for JEE Main 2020 will be confirmed after monitoring the situation in the coming weeks. And the conducting authority will issue JEE Main Admit Card 2020 after April 15, 2020. JEE Main aspirants will be updated on the latest developments regarding the entrance examination. JEE Main 2020 april session will be conducted for three papers i.e. Paper 1 (B.Tech/B.E Programmes), Paper 2 (B.Arch course) and Paper 3 (B.Planning course). March 27, 2020: The National Testing Agency has postponed JEE Main Aprill session exam till May last week. Therfore, the revised exam dates will be announced in the due course of time.
March 19, 2020: National Testing Agency launches the National Test Abhyas App for the students to prepare for JEE Main 2020 and NEET 2020. Earlier, the HRD Minister suggested JEE Main and NEET aspirants to study for SWAYAM, Swayam Prabha TV and Diksha Portal. March 19, 2020: National Testing Agency has postponed JEE Main Aprill session exams. Revised exam schedule will be announced after March 31, 2020.
March 18, 2020: MHRD has released a notification stating that JEE Main 2020 revised dates will be declared after March 31, 2020.
March 16, 2020: JEE Main 2020 Application form correction facility has been closed.
March 13, 2020: JEE Main 2020 Application form correction facility has been commenced from March 13, 2020. The last date to edit the application form is March 16, 2020.
March 12, 2020(11:50 PM): JEE Main 2020 Application Process has been closed.
March 12, 2020 (5:00 PM): The authorities have closed the registration process of JEE Main 2020. However, already registered candidates can still pay JEE Main application fee till tonight (11:50 PM).
March 6, 2020: NTA has extended the last date to submit JEE Main 2020 application form till March 12, 2020. Also, the authorities have announced the revised application form facility dates. Now the form correction window will be opened from March 13, 2020 to March 16, 2020.
March 5, 2020: The National Testing Agency has decided that the candidates with benchmark disabilities (physical limitation to write) will be allowed additional time of one hour in the entrance examination. Only those candidates who will have a ceritificate will be allowed to avail extra time.

December 6, 2019: The National Testing Agency has released JEE Main Admit Card 2020 on the official website i.e. jeemain.nta.ac.in. In order to download the admit card, candidates must enter login credentials.
November 8, 2019: The application form for Jammu and Kashmir candidates is now concluded.
November 7, 2019: NTA has issued a press release to clarify doubt on not conducting JEE Main in vernacular languages. Now JEE Main 2020 will be conducted in Hindi, English and Gujarati languages. In the press release, NTA also stated that Maharashtra state requested to provide the question paper in Marathi and Urdu language in 2014. However, the state withdrew the request in 2016 and requested to provide the question paper in Hindi and English language only.
November 1, 2019: The Authorities have commenced the application process of JEE Main 2020 for only candidates belonging to Jammu and Kashmir from November 4 to November 8, 2020.
October 20, 2019: The National Testing Agency has closed JEE Main application form correction window.
October 14, 2019: The Authorities have commenced the application form correction facility for JEE Main 2020.
September 12, 2019: The Authorities have commenced the photo correction facility of JEE Main 2020. In case of any discrepancy in their uploaded images, the registered candidates can now fix it in the application form in online mode only.
September 3, 2019: The official website of JEE Main 2020 (January session) is now live and the application form has been released by the conducting authorities. Information Brochure is also available on the official website stating the details about the entrance examination. The total number of questions have been reduced and numerical based questions have been introduced along with MCQs. Paper 2 has been divided into B.Arch and B.Planning. Separate paper will be conducted for both the courses, the drawing section has been replaced with planning questions.
September 2, 2020: NTA has released the notification stating the postponement of JEE Main 2020 registration for January session. Now, the application form will be available from September 3, 2019.
August 22, 2019: The Authorities have released the schedule for JEE Main 2020. The important dates for both January and April sessions have been made available for the aspirants. August 10, 2019: JEE Main 2020 registrations for Test Practice Centers (TPCs) have started. JEE Main aspirants can also access mock tests to practice for the entrance examination.
As per the notification released by NTA on May 22, 2020 , there will be a half an hour variation in the exam timings of the April session in comparison to the January session. The morning shift for the April session will be held from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon,and the afternoon session will be held from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
In view of the outbreak of COVID-19, aspirants are demanding a reduction in the syllabus of JEE Main examination. Therefore, there may be a possibility of reducing JEE Main 2021 Syllabus which will be clarified by NTA at a desired time.
