    JIPMER Exam Pattern: The institute conducts a single computer-based (offline) entrance exam for UG aspirants seeking admission to MBBS courses. This year, the exam was successfully scheduled for June 2 in two shifts – morning and evening.

    The duration of the paper will be 2½ hours. The entire paper will be divided into five sections viz.

    • Section 1 – Physics
    • Section 2 – Chemistry
    • Section 3 –  Biology (Botany and Zoology)
    • Section 4 – English and Comprehension
    • Section 5 – Logic and Quantitative Reasoning

    JIPMER Exam Pattern 2020 in Detail

    • The exam pattern of JIPMER 2020 is such that the question paper will contain 200 multiple choice questions.
    • The questions will be based on topics from Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English covered in class 11 and class 12.

    JIPMER 2020 Marking Scheme

    • Against every correct answer, aspirants will be awarded 1 mark whereas for every wrong answer no mark will be deducted.
    • Besides, no marks are given for any un-attempted questions

    The marking scheme for the medical examination is as follows:

    Some other points to note:

    • The score such obtained will be the raw score.
    • These raw scores will be used to determine Percentile score (for the purpose of eligibility using Cut offs and determining Merit/ Ranking.
    • As per the official booklet of JIPMER, minimum eligible marks for MBBS entrance will be 50 percentile for general category candidates and 40 percentile for SC/ST category candidates.

    JIPMER Syllabus 2020

    The questions for JIPMER are based on the syllabus as prescribed by State Board Hr. Sec. and CBSE for XI & XII Standards. That is, It will cover topics from Physics, Chemistry, Biology studied in class 11 and class 12. The conducting body will not add anything to this syllabus.

    English Syllabus

    • Section A: Reading Unseen Passages and Note-making
    • Section B: Writing Skills
    • Section C: Literature and Long Reading Text
    • Some of the questions will be based on synonyms, antonyms and vocabulary

    Logic and Quantitative Reasoning

    As for Logic and Quantitative Reasoning there is no set syllabus. However, candidates can expect questions from the following areas:

    • Analogy test
    • Logical deduction
    • Figure formation and analysis
    • Figure matrix, etc.

    Qualifying Marks in JIPMER

    In order to participate in the admission procedure, candidates must score the minimum qualifying marks/ percentile defined by the Institute. The merit list will be prepared based on the percentile score after normalisation. The same is tabulated below:

    Important Points:

    • Candidates who secure less than the minimum percentile will not be considered for admission and their names will not be included in the merit list. Check JIPMER Results
    • Only those NRI/ OCI candidates who opt for admission under Self Financing Scheme at the time of application itself will be considered for the merit list to 6 seats (5 for Puducherry campus and 1 for Karaikal campus) for NRI/ OCI status candidates. Check JIPMER Reservation/ Seat Distribution

    JIPMER Exam: Tie-Breaking Criteria

    In case of a tie, the order of deciding higher rank/ merit would be in the following order:

    • Less Negative Marks,
    • Higher Percentile in Biology,
    • Higher Percentile in Chemistry,
    • Higher Percentile in Physics,
    • Higher Percentile in English Language 
    • Higher Percentile in Logical and Quantitative Reasoning and 
    • Elder by age.

    Important Instructions

    The details mentioned below are important and must be noted before appearing for the JIPMER 2020 exam:

    • On the day of the exam, candidates must follow all the rules and regulations of the exam.
    • Candidates are expected to maintain decorum for smooth organisation of examination.
    • The exam will be conducted in two sessions- Morning Session & Afternoon Session. Candidates must be careful while noting exam timings, venue, and session.
    • Candidates must report to the examination hall at least 2 hours prior to the commencement of the exam.
    • Candidates must carry a printout of the admit card and a valid photo identity proof at all times during the exam.
