    All India Management Association (AIMA) has decided to conduct MAT from next session as ‘Remotely Proctored Internet-Based Test’ (IBT) mode. This implies that the aspirants will be appearing for the exam from their homes. Registration for MAT IBT mode has commenced from May 7, 2020. Last date to register for phase 4 of is June 6, exam for which will be conducted on June 13, 2020. Test window is of one month that is May 25 to  June 25, 2020.     Latest Update: MAT IBT Mode Admit Card for phase 3 will release on June 2 , the exam will take place on June 6 and 7, 2020. Check How to Download!

    This measure has been taken keeping in mind extended nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19 and necessary social distancing.

    • Those candidates who have already registered for PBT/CBT were allowed to switch to the IBT mode till May 17, 2020.
    • Candidates are required to be equipped with a computer system enabled with webcam and internet facilities to appear for IBT mode.
    • Application fee for MAT Internet Based Test is INR 1650. Candidates have to seperately apply for the same.Official Mock Tests has been released by the authorities with nominal fees on May 7, 2020 in order to facilitate candidates' understanding of IBT mode pattern.
    • Internet Based Test will be invigilated using Artificial intelligence and Remote human proctoring to filter any malpractices.
    • MAT 2020 for May session will be conducted in PBT mode on 14th July while earlier it was supposed to be held on 16th May. The computer-based exam mode will be conducted on 21st June and not on 3rd May.
    • AIMA had released the MAT May Exam application from 6th March in online mode and now, the new date for filling the form is 7th June for the PBT mode. The last date to fill the application form has been extended to 15th June from earlier 26th April.
    • MAT Admit Card for IBT Mode will be released as per the test slot selected by the candidate betwwen May 21 to June 21, 2020.

    MAT 2020 May session has an additional hundred rupees registration fee as compared to MAT 2020 February session. Earlier, the candidate had to pay a total of Rs 1550/- for a single-mode and Rs 2650/- for both the modes. For MAT 2020 May session, candidates will have to pay Rs 1650/- for single-mode and Rs 2750/- for both CBT and PBT modes.

    What is MAT IBT Mode?

    Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, social distancing is a necessity. MAT will now be available in ‘Remote Proctoring Internet-Based Test (IBT) mode to maintain social distancing and also will be convenient for the candidates. In this mode of the test, the candidates can appear for the exam from the confines of their homes. 

    There are obviously certain norms like having a computer with a webcam and good internet connectivity conforming to the technical specifications. This mode will help to ensure that the aspirants are not deprived of appearing for MAT 2020 test. This mode can also be termed as ‘anytime-anywhere’ test mode.

      How MAT IBT Mode will be conducted?

      The candidates will be giving exams online in this mode. Candidates will be required to log in using credentials and verify themselves first. In this mode of testing, the candidates will be proctored remotely using AI (artificial intelligence) tools as well as remote human proctoring. It will be different from traditional modes where the candidates are being proctored in the test room under a controlled environment.

      AIMA will also make available a series of mock tests at a nominal extra fee. The candidates will have the chance to familiarise themselves with the new mode of testing before actually appearing for the MAT 2020. AIMA will also plan on making this technology available for tests across the country for the students enrolled for distance education management programmes like PGDM, PGDITM, etc.

      How MAT IBT Mode will be invigilated?

      Due to the spread of Covid-19, the MAT 2020 test will go online. The exam will also be proctored online. The exact guidelines from AIMA are yet to be received on the invigilation part. However, it is already mentioned that candidates who are found to be contravening the pre-specified behavioural norms would be warned at first and if found repeating, they may be disqualified. The details on the exam will be released shortly by AIMA on their official website. The candidates are requested to keep visiting the website regularly for current updates.

      Ques: What to do while giving MAT IBT if it shows “Connection with Chat server Failed”

      Ans:  This kind of message is displayed if there are restrictions on network or system. If office system is not being used: Disable the antivirus and firewall (if any) or move to different internet connection  In case office system is being used the issue is because of some technical error. 

      Requirements for MAT IBT Mode

      MAT IBT 2020 test will have certain requirements related to the specifications of computer and internet requirements. Though it will not be too difficult for people having an internet connection at their homes.

      There will be following things you should keep an eye on before MAT IBT test:

      • Prefer a processor with 4 GB installed memory
      • Free memory of 1 GB
      • Free disk space should be 2 GB
      • Adapter of 1024x768 resolution
      • Webcam-logitech C270, C210, C170 and Microsoft VX800 are preferred

      System Assessment for MAT IBT Mode

      A secure syatem browser is required to take online exams. AIMA has guided candidates to install MSB-Mettl Secure Brwoser in order to take the internet based test.

      • Operating system requirement for MSB is Windows 7 and above
      • MSB is not supported on any browser other than windows 7 and above
      • MSB requires do.net framework, minimum supported version is 4.5.1 NET framework
      • Memory requirement: 65 MB permanent free space on the default hard drive is required.

      Note: Once the exam commences, MSB (secure browser) will close all the application in the background example Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome or any unrequired application like Skype.

      How does MAT IBT Mode Works?

      Internet based test and computer based test are completely different. Candidates in IBT mode will not be proctored in a controlled environment of a test room rather proctored using: 

      • Artificial Intelligence Tools
      • Remote Human Proctoring to keep a check on any malpractices

      In case candidates are found using unfair means and contravening the specified behaviour norms they will be warnned and can be disqualified as well.

      Step 1: Launch Test 

      • Visit the official website of MAT 2020 mat.aima.in/may20
      • Navigate to Launch Test Buttton
      • The test will start in a separate window
      • Depending on installation of MSB in the system, a redirected screen will open

      Step 2: Select Appropriate Option

      • In case system of the candidate is not installed with MSB they have to download it.
      • Otherwise students can proceed to take the test
      • There is no need to download MSB from any outside source, option to download will be availableon the screen.

      • Agree to the tersms an conditions and click on Install option
      • Once MSB is downloaded, open file to install.

      Step 4: Start Test on MSB

      •  Click on launch test on the MSB browser
      • A pop up dialouge window will appear asking to open MSB-click on ok option
      • Again a screen will appear asking to close the unrequired application on your computer
      • Apps like Skype, Web browsers are considered unrequired, proceed to ok button after closing applications.
      • MSB will ask to share microphone and camera permission to be granted to proceed with the test.
      • Details like valid email address, name, date of birth, contact number and country are to be filled.

      Step 5: Submission of Snapshot

      • Candidates are required to provide a snapshot of their face and identity proof .
      • Step 1 involved face snapshot whereas step 2 involves ID snapshot.
      • Make sure whiletaking snapshot the room is lightened enough to avoid any blure or darkness.
      • Review the picture befor submitting the snapshot
      • Authorisation process will be carried out after that, this can take 2-3 minutes.
      • In case snapshot submitted are not clear, candidates will be asked again to submit the images.

      • Candidaes will be intimitated that their test will be monitored, approval for which is mandatory to proceed with the test.
      • An image will be displayed stating use of every tab on the screen

      Ques: How to Submit the test in MAT IBT mode?

      Ans: Once candidates have completed answering questions or the time duration is over they need to clik on Finish Test located at the top right corner of the screen. Details of teh test will be mentioned under following heads: 

      • Green Button: Total Number of answered questions
      • Orange Button: Question Marked to revisit
      • Grey Button:  Questions not answered

      MAT IBT Webcam and Microphone Functionality

      There are situations when computer system used by candidate have webcam and microphone installed in them but do not function at the time of giving test. MSB has no provision to give permission for web camera, the issues might occus because of:  

      Web camera or microphone are not working in working condition or appropriate resolution is not available for them. Also if a third party is using the tools error might occur.

      Candidates can follow the following steps to to ensire functionality of webcam and microphone:

      • Close possible application whcih might be using web camera or microphone
      • Open Drive C of operating system and go to program files folder.
      • Open MSB folder in program files and go to SebWindowsBrowser folder.
      • Surf firefox from xulrunner folder- when firefox is running in adress bar type test.webrtc.org
      • It will ask to grant persmission to use web camera and microphone in case it is properly insatlled.

      • Create a password with at least 8 characters including numerals and special characters.
      • Confirm the password once more and mention state you belong to

      Why You should Appear for MAT IBT Mode?

      AIMA this year has decided to conduct the IBT exam so that students can sit at homes and still give the exam. This is a great step as this will be happening for the first time for any national level management entrance test in India. The current situation in which we have to follow social distancing and stay at homes during the lockdown. MAT IBT test gives the flexibility to the students to give the exam from their respective homes and be safe at the same time.

      • MAT score card is accepted by more than 600 B-Schools across India. Around 350 institutes are registered under AIMA that accept the MAT score for admissions. 
      • More than 250 institutes are there which are not registered but still accept MAT score for admissions. A lot of premier B-Schools have high cut-offs and candidates can secure admissions in them.
      •  All the institutes which accept the MAT score will declare individual cut-offs. The general range of MAT cut-off for all the good B-Schools goes to 80+ MAT percentile.

      MAT 2020 Admit Card

      Admit card for MAT will be available for all the registered candidates as per their schedule of taking the exam between May 21 to June 21. Admit card will be released for internet based test 3 days prior to the exam. Admit card for MAT IBT mode phase 2 has been released on May 26 the exam will be conducted on May 30 and 31, 2020. On the other hand admit card for MAT CBT mode will be released on 17th June. Candidates will be required to log in on the official website using their credentials. Candidates can then download the MAT 2020 admit card any time before the day of the exam. The AIMA authorities will not send any hard copy of the admit card to any of the candidates. It is mandatory for candidates to carry the admit card otherwise they will not be allowed to appear in MAT 2020.

      Application Process for MAT IBT 2020

      Candidates have the facility to switch to MAT IBT mode in case they have applied earlier for online or offline mode till May 17, 2020. Below are the steps to fill the MAT 2020 application form:

      • Visit the official website of AIMA mat.aima.in
      • Candidates have to register and created a User ID and password to login successfully.
      • Candidates have to log in with respective credentials and then will have to select the mode of the exam, test city choice, mode of payment and then process the payment.
      • The payment can only be done via online methods (Credit/Debit card/ Net Banking)
      • Candidates have to upload the scanned copy of the photograph (20-150KB) and signature (20-150KB)
      • Candidates have to choose preferred colleges out of the list of participating colleges mentioned under MAT 2020 exam.
      • Click ‘Submit’ and complete the final submission.

      Eligibility for MAT IBT Mode

      Eligibility Criteria for MAT IBT mode is the same as other offline and online mode exams. The candidates must fulfil the below-mentioned parameters before applying for the test.

      • Candidates must have completed their graduation (in any discipline)
      • Candidates pursuing their final year of graduation (in any discipline) can also apply for MAT 2020
      • There is no age limit to appear for MAT 2020.
      • Candidates should have an internet-based computer for giving the exam. The specifications will be released by AIMA shortly and the students can give exams by sitting at home.

      MAT IBT Exam Pattern 2020

      MAT IBT 2020 exam will be conducted in both online, offline and internet-based mode by AIMA. Candidates will be able to take the exam from their homes and they can appear for the remotely proctored internet-based test (IBT). The candidates can choose any of the modes or both while filling the application form. As per the MAT exam pattern, the exam will have a total of 200 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The exam will be divided into 5 sections and will have a total time duration of 150 minutes (2.5 hours). MAT IBT test will have the same exam pattern as earlier.       Marking Scheme: Each question carries one mark. Also, 0.25 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer. No marks for a blank answer.

      There are no changes for MAT 2020 syllabus. There are a total of five sections each having 40 questions as usual. The details are mentioned below.

      • Always save while marking options, in case the system does not save your answers automatically.
      • Technical glitch often happens, do not panic, wait for the system to cope up itself.

      Ques: Is it necessary to have a internet connection to appear in MAT IBT?

      Ans: Candidates need to madatory have  a stable internet connection with not less than 512 kbps bandwidth. No internet connection or poor internet connection can lcreate inconvenience while appearing for IBT Mode.

      Ques: Can a candidate take MAT IBT from their Mobile Phones with internet connection?

      Ans: No, it is neccessary to have a computer system either dekstop or laptop with a functioning webcam and mic. It is not allowed by AIMA to take the remote proctored test from gadgets like mobile phones or tablet.

      Ques: I do not have Windows 7 as operating system, can i appear for MAT IBT?

      Ans: As mentioned by AIMA, specifications for computer system include operating system as Windows 7.  MSB that is the secure browser does not work below Windows 7.

      Ques: Is there any dress code specified to appear for MAT IBT?

      Ans: It is required to maintain the decorum of the test, so candidates need to opt for a proper descent dressing though the test is taken from homes. Prefer wearing simple semi formal dress, as it is not an interview formal dressing is not required.

      Ques: Will i have to provide original proof to give internet based test?

      Ans: While taking MAT IBT candidates have to provide a original valid id as a live image. Thus keep the documents ready beforehand.

      Ques: What kind of sitting is mandated in MAT IBT?

      Ans:  Candidates need to find a quite place with good lighting and make their arrangements therein order to appear for the test. Surrounding shouldnot be noisy, people not taking or moving around. Face must be visible clearly to the proctor, any suspicious behaviour can lead to cancellation of test.

      Ques: Are calculator and Mobile phone allowed during MAT IBT?

      Ans: No, candidates are not allowed any electronic device like mobile or calculator during the test. In case candidates are found using any unfair means they willbe debarred from the test.

      Ques: Can i use rough sheets while giving MAT IBT?

      Ans: Yes rough sheets can be used by candidates to do calculations while giving MAT IBT. They need to keep the rough sheets in handy while giving the exam as they will not be allowed to leave their seat once the exam begins.

      Ques: Are Bio Breaks (toilet break) allowed during MAT Internet Based Test?

      Ans: Bio Breaks of short duration say 2-3 minutes are allowed. Though candidates have to inform the invigilator through chat window before going for the break. Not more than 2-3 breaks are allowed in the entire duration of examination.

      Ques: What should be done in case of power cut/failure while giving MAT IBT?

      Ans: MAT IBT is designed on auto save mode, in case there is power cut or computer sytem of the candidates shuts down due to any other reason, they can resume the test following same steps as done earlier. Test can be resumed from the same question number where left. Though such activities are highly monitored and should not be used for cheating purposes. 

      Ques: What is MSB? How i can download it for MAT IBT?

      Ans: MSB is a secure browser used for internet based exams. When candidates start their test they are provided with the option to start their test or download MSB. The secure browser automatically shuts restricted websites like web browsers.
