MICAT 2018 Selection Process

MICAT 2018 (MICA Admission Test) is conducted for admissions to Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Communications) offered in Ahmadabad. The admission to MICAT 2018 is a 3 step procedure. The first step is to score well in CAT/ XAT/ GMAT exam. The second step is to score qualifying marks in the MICAT 2018.

The third step is Group Exercise (GE) and Personal Interview (PI). It is held in 2 phases. Candidate clearing the first phase for MICAT 2018selection procedure will be called for the second phase. The selected candidates for second phase are selected on the basis of composite scores of phase I. After the phase II of GE - PI process, final merit list is released which completes the MICAT 2018selection procedure and admissions are offered to the candidates.

MICAT 2018 Selection Procedure

After the result is out, candidates are short listed and passed through these three step process. The selection procedure for MICAT 2018 includes three steps. At every stage candidates are assessed and short listed for next level.

The three steps of this MICAT 2018 selection process are mentioned below:

  • CAT 2015, XAT 2016 and GMAT (2012 onwards)

Every candidate has to appear in any one of the above mentioned tests. It does not matter whether it is CAT, XAT or GMAT. But candidate is required to have a valid score in any one of these three tests.

  • MICA Admission Test (MICAT)

This is the second step of the selection process for MICAT 2018. Candidate has to appear for the admission test held for MICAT 2018. The admission test consists of six sections of questions. Candidates are assessed on the basis of these six sections.

The six sections for MICAT admission test are:

  1. Psychometric: this is a qualifier test and nothing more than that. Candidate just has to pass this section.
  2. Verbal ability: candidate clearing and qualifying the psychometric test will be further exposed to this section. This assess candidate’s communication skills and his ability to understand things
  3. Quantitative ability: this section includes those questions which help in judging the candidate’s quantitative skills.
  4. General awareness:  this section includes questions regarding current affairs and general knowledge.
  5. Divergent- convergent reasoning: this section is based upon the questions related to reasoning like what comes next, the series, the missing one etc.
  6. Descriptive test: this section includes those questions which help in judging the candidate’s imagination and his way of understanding the things. Then interpreting the whole thing.

Candidate qualifying this test are further selected for the final round which is GE-PI process.

This round is the last round for MICAT 2018 selection procedure. It ultimately helps in selecting participants who are actually eligible for the admission.

GE-PI Process

This is one of the three steps of the MICAT 2018 selection process. This GE-PI process is basically group exercise and personal interview. After the results of MICAT are declared, candidates are selected on its basis. The selected candidates are called for this GE-PI process.

This round basically focuses on assessing the candidates’ overall personality. This overall personality has many parameters. A candidate is tested and judged on the following barriers.

  • Clarity in thought
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Knowledge
  • Determination
  • Leadership
  • Creativity
  • Communication skills
  • Overall eligibility for the course

Some of the important things about GE-PI round are mentioned below:

  • Candidates who are selected for this GE-PI round are called upon by sending call letters to them. 
  • The GE-PI round is conducted in two phases.
  • The first phase is held at Bengaluru, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai
  • The second phase for group exercise and personal interview is held at Ahmadabad itself
  • This is the final and last round of the MICAT 2018 selection procedure. After this the final merit list will be released

Calculation of composite scores

(Combined weight age based on MICAT, Group Exercise and Personal Interview):

After all the three steps of the MICAT 2018 selection procedure are done, candidates are evaluated and a composite score of every individual is prepared.

Some of the important things about the composite score so prepared are mentioned below:

  • The three rounds contribute to the composite score of candidate.
  • Every round has a fixed weight age to be contributed in the composite score.
  • MICAT admission test : 50%
  • GE (group exercise ): 20%
  • PI (personal interview ): 30%
  • The marks obtained by each candidate at every stage contribute less or more to the composite score.

Conditions for receiving confirmed offers at the end of GE-PI round:

Completion of these three rounds marks the completion of the selection procedure of MICAT 2018. The candidate who will successfully fulfill clear all these three rounds and meet the required benchmarks sets by the university will be sent confirmed offers.

The conditions and requirements set for receiving the confirmed offers are:

  • Recommendation by the 3 member panel of Personal interview round unanimously.
  • Scoring 4 or more than 4 on the 5- point scale in GE.
  • Scoring 4 or more than 4 on the 5- point scale in PI.
  • Candidate must have a score among top ten percent in the MICAT score when compared to all other candidates.
  • Candidate must have a score among top ten percent in the CAT/ XAT/GMAT when compared to all other candidates.

All The candidates who will meet these conditions will be send confirmed offers  at the end of GE- PI process phase-I. The confirmed offers will include an invite regarding the GE- PI process phase - II. It will also contain details regarding the GE - PI phase II schedule.

Calculation of final merit list

(Composite score and Marks scored in CAT/XAT/GMAT):

The final merit list will be released after the completion of phase II of GE - PI process which is to be held at MICA, Ahmedabad itself.

Some of the important things about final MICAT 2018 Merit List are:

This final merit list will form the basis for the admissions of the students. It will include

  1. Combined score obtained in phase I and phase II of GE - PI process ( group exercise and personal interview )
  2. Relative performance in CAT/ XAT/ GMAT
  3. Composite score obtained ( which includes cores in MICAT admission test, group exercise and personal interview )

The admissions will be granted on the basis of the preference of selected candidates and the merit obtained by them.
