    NIFT 2020 Preparation Tips will give an idea to the candidates on how to prepare for the exam. The exam is conducted by the National Institute of Fashion Technology for admission to an undergraduate and postgraduate course. This year, NIFT 2020 will be conducted on January 21, 2020 in offline mode.

    Every year 22000 candidates appear for the entrance exam out of which 2400 seats are allotted to candidates based on merit list. Due to high competition, candidates need complete focus and a good understanding of basic concept of the exam.     The exam is divided into three stages viz. Written test, Situation test, and GD/PI. The duration of B.Des and M.Des, GAT exam is of 2 hours and for B.F.Tech, MFM & M.F.Tech, GAT exam is for 3 hours. There is no negative marking. Read More NIFT Exam Pattern

    NIFT Preparation Tips

    Candidates are advised to check all the resources and methods that are helpful in preparing of NIFT entrance in an organised way. Following is the detail of each section comprised of topics from where the questions are asked:

    English

    • The questions asked in this section are based on Grammar and Syntax. Questions are comprised of topics asked from Synonyms, Antonyms, Idioms and Phrases, Spot the errors, cloze test, fill in the blanks, sentence correction, spelling errors, word substitution, and sentence ordering etc. candidates are also advised to practice Vocabulary.

    Reasoning

    • In this section, questions are asked from the topics such as Verbal & non-verbal, coding, decoding, ranking, sitting arrangement, directions, calendar, clocks, blood relations, cubes & dices, line counting, graph, puzzles etc.

    Mathematics

    • For clearing this section students need to practice questions from the topics such as Number system, Ratio proportion, Averages, Ages, Profits & Losses, Speed time, Upstream & Downstream, Pipes & cistern, Work time, simple interest, compound interest, trigonometry, height & distance, combination and probability etc.

    Creative Ability Test

    • Students need to prepare for topics such as Dimensions, Product Design, Space Design, Human figure, Colour rendering, Colour interpretation. Candidates need to also practice questions from Visual communication topics like Poster, Product life, Process drawing etc.

    Following preparation, tips help to clear all the admission rounds like group discussion and interview etc.

    • Nothing is better than practice so candidates have to practice as many questions as they can. Students must practice previous year questions papers too.
    • Candidates need to read different newspapers, magazines, and websites on a regular basis.
    • Candidates can get ideas from posters, banners and advertisements they see.
    • Candidates must highlight the line by making it bold which shows the candidates confidence.
    • Candidates start detailing the things which they feel required such as human figures and outfits.
    • Candidates need to practice different styles of lettering.
    • Candidates are advised to make light sketch firstly and then darken it which ultimately saves candidate time.
    • In the examination, the candidates need to think about the idea first and then draw it with the use of quality pencils with at least 24 shades. Therefore, plan time scheduled in such a way that paper can complete on time.
    • Candidates should start with simple designs and then practice complicated and difficult one.

    NIFT 2020 Exam Pattern

    NIFT 2020 entrance exam is divided into two tests i.e. online or written objective test which is also called General Ability Test (GAT) and Creative Ability test (CAT).

    In B.Des., the qualified candidates in GAT & CAT section will be called for NIFT situation test. GAT will be the final selection test for candidates who want to take admission in B.FTech. course. According to the GAT and CAT result in the case of M.Des. and GAT result in the case of M.FTech. and M.F.M. candidates will be called for Group Discussion or Personal Interview.

    Creative Ability Test Section: NIFT examination pattern of Creative Ability Test is designed to evaluate the candidate skills, their observation power, and innovation in design by using various colours.

    General Ability Test Section: In this test, candidates can take admission in B.Des. and M.Des. programs at NIFT. General Ability Test is comprised of the following sections:

    • Quantitative Ability: Questions are based on Addition, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Percentage, Rate of Interest, Work and Task, Ration and Proportion and Distance.
    • Communication Ability: It focuses on the candidate’s language ability. Questions are asked from Synonyms, Antonyms, Singular, Plural, and One-word substitutes etc.
    • English Comprehension: Candidates should answer according to their understanding after reading a specific passage
    • Analytical Ability: It is designed to check candidate’s inference and logical ability.
    • General Awareness: Questions were based on Current affairs

    Following tables shows the test structure for B.Des., M.Des., B.FTech, M.FTech, and M.F.M programs along with no. of questions.

    For Bachelor Of Design (B.Des.)

    In this program, CAT test is having 50% weightage and GAT test is having 30% weightage. Whereas situation test is having 20% weightage and is a practical exam. The test is comprised of 150 questions and is completed in 2 hours.
