NTSE 2019 Eligibility

NTSE exam is conducted in 2 stages. The stage 1 of NTSE exam is conducted by the state board and stage 2 conducted by NCERT. The candidates must satisfy the eligibility criteria to appear for the NTSE 2019.

The candidate can appear for the NTSE only if he or she is an Indian national or a candidate of Indian origin. The upper age limit as defined for the NTSE test takers is 18 years. The candidates who are pursuing class 10 from open school can appear for the exam.

The candidates who are in class IX can also appear for the NTSE. The candidate must clear the class IX exam with 60 % marks. The NTSE reservation policy is same for all the candidates. The percentage reservation offered remains same for the candidates studying in India or abroad.

NTSE eligibility criteria must be completely understood before applying for the NTSE exam. The candidates must be clear that the eligibility criteria for both stage 1 and stage 2 are different. The NTSE eligibility criteria in details for both the stages are as follows:


NTSE 2019 Eligibility Criteria Stage 1

  1. The NTSE exam requires candidates to be registered with the State/UT exam conducting body. Only Indian nationals are eligible to apply.
  2. The candidates who are in class X can also apply for the test.
  3. The candidates who wish to give NTSE exam in class X must have cleared class IX examination from a recognized board. The candidate must have completed the class IX examination with a minimum of 60% marks.
  4. The candidates must have obtained degree recognized by the board.
  5. The students who have completed/appearing for class 10th examination and are registered under Open Distance Learning (ODL) can appear for the NTSE exam. The candidate must be below 18 years of age and must not be employed. 

NTSE 2019 Eligibility Criteria Stage 2

  1. Students who have secured 80% marks in state board are eligible for stage 2 of the NTSE exam.
  2. Every year around 4000 candidates appears for the stage 2 of the NTSE exam.  The candidates who clear the NTSE stage 2 with the minimum marks defined are eligible for scholarships.

NTSE 2019 Reservation policy for Indian nationals

The NTSE will follow some rules defined by the Government of India. The candidate must be Indian nationals. The candidates who qualify the NTSE stage 2 examinations will be getting reservation benefits.

The general category candidates must secure 40% marks in each of the NTSE exam paper. The reserved category students need to secure 32% marks in each of the exams. The NTSE reservation scheme is as follows:

NTSE 2019 Reservation Scheme for Indian Nationals Studying Abroad

The candidates of Indian origin who are completing class 10 from any foreign board or school will be getting a scholarship only if he/she studies further in India. The reservation ratio percentage scheme in NTSE exam is as follows the criteria:

Hi I am student of class 10 and I am physically disabled for eyes (40 %). During the final exam of class 9, I was down with sickness so I couldn't secure good marks and secured 59.2 %. This year I have filled the form of NTSE and school administration has approved it. Am I eligible after securing this marks (59.2%) ? If yes, would I will get any type of privileges or benefit ? Hi I am student of class 10 I want give ntse students . I give my name for registration . I am doing my practice of ntse . I got marks above 60 % . But my principal mam do not registered me and before my teacher tell I can give ntse . After last date registration I that my school do not send my registration . Can I do some thing . I want give this exam . I want experience this type of exam . Can u help me
