PU CET Exam Pattern 2027: Total Marks, Marking Scheme, Question Pattern, and Important Topics

PU CET Exam is conducted every year for admission into UG, PG, and Law courses in Panjab University. For UG, PU CET exam will test you across four subjects: Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, out of which a candidate can appear in one or more subjects.

• The PU CET Syllabus for UG will be based on the CBSE Class 11 and 12 curriculum, with 60 questions and 120 marks in each subject.
• For PU CET UG, +2 marks are given for a correct answer, and -0.5 marks are deducted for a wrong answer.
• PU CET Entrance exam is conducted for LLB programmes as well (3-year & 5-year), which tests subjects like Current Affairs, law, Mental Ability, and English Language.
• The total marks for LLB are 100, and the marking scheme for both 3-year and 5-year LLB would be +1 for a correct answer and -0.25 for an incorrect answer.
• Based on previous years’ question papers, the high-weightage topics for PU CET UG from Physics, Chemistry, Maths, and Biology would include Mechanics, Chemical Bonding, Calculus, and Genetics, respectively.
• For PG, there are no generally important topics as the syllabus is different for each of the chosen courses.
• For PU CET Law, the Law section carries the highest weightage of 40% in both the 3-year LLB and 5-year LLB entrance examinations.

PU CET Exam Pattern 2027 UG

• As per the PU CET 2027 Exam Pattern for UG, it has a total of four subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology) which are tested individually. Candidates can appear in one or more subjects based on their interested course eligibility criteria.
• The PU CET exam duration in 2027 includes a separate, sealed 70-minute window for each subject, which means that you cannot share time across all subject papers.
• PU CET 2027 total marks are 120 for each subject, which means if a candidate appears in all 4 subjects, then he/she will answer PU CET 2027 total questions of 240, with 70 minutes fixed time for each subject.
• You must complete as well as cross-check the questions in a given subject within 70 minutes itself.
• There is an approximate 30-minute gap between consecutive papers. However, no candidate may leave the hall before the 70 minutes for that paper expire, even if finished early.

PU CET Exam Pattern 2027: Impact of Negative Marking

• +2 marks are awarded for correct answers, and 0.5 marks are deducted for wrong answers.
• This means that if a candidate attempts all 60 questions, but only 45 are correct, and the remaining 15 questions are wrong, then his/her total marks would be 82.5.
• On the other hand, if another student attempts only 45 questions out of 60 but answers them correctly, then he/she would score 90 marks, which is more than the first student.
• You must avoid random guesses and mark the correct answer only if you are 100% sure, as negative marking will reduce your score.

PU CET Exam Pattern 2027: Category-wise Qualifying Marks for UG

• As per PU CET 2026, for the General category, 15% of the total marks are essential for qualifying and making it to the merit list of Panjab University.
• On the other hand, for SC / ST / BC / PwD categories, 10% of the total marks are essential for qualifying.
• Suppose a candidate appears for 3 subjects; then he/she needs to score a minimum of 54 marks out of 360 (for general) or 36 marks out of 360 (for SC / ST / BC / PwD) to qualify in the exam.
• If the candidate chooses to appear for a single subject like mathematics, then he/she will require 18 marks out of 120 (if general category) or 12 marks out of 120 (if SC / ST / BC / PwD) to qualify for the exam.

• The pattern and marking scheme of the PU CET UG exam have remained unchanged since 2016; however, the syllabus has changed slightly.
• The PU CET UG exam questions are asked based on the CBSE Class 11th and 12th curriculum, which undergoes rationalisation every year.

PU CET Exam Pattern 2027: Qualifying Percentage for PG

• For the majority of the PG courses, M.Sc., M.Com., LL.M., MCA, etc., the qualifying percentage of the aggregate marks for the general category is 20%, and for reserved categories it is 15%.

PU CET Exam Pattern 2027: Section-wise Marking Scheme for Law

• The PU CET Law Exam Pattern for the 5-year LLB course reveals that a total of 100 questions are distributed across four sections: Law, General Knowledge & Current Affairs, Reasoning, and English.
• The questions will be in multiple-choice format with four options for each question, out of which you have to bubble only the correct answer on the OMR sheet.

• PU CET 2027 Exam Pattern for 3-year LLB will also include a total of 100 questions, with three sections: Current Affairs & General Knowledge, Legal Aptitude, and Reasoning Ability & Knowledge of English as sections.
• Each question is followed by four answer choices labeled A, B, C, and D. You should select the answer you think is the best response and darken the bubble bearing the correct response.

PU CET Exam Pattern 2027: Time To Be Allotted for Each Question.

• The PU CET 2027 Exam Duration for both 3- year and 5-year LLB will be 1 hour and 30 minutes, and the number of questions to be attempted are 100. So, approximately 54 seconds are to be allotted per question.

• PU 5-Year LLB: 100 Questions are to be attempted in a span of 90 Minutes. To achieve this, you need to complete the Law and GK sections in at least 1 hour. Similarly, the Reasoning and English sections have to be completed in 20 minutes, so that you will have 10 minutes buffer time for rechecking.

• PU 3-Year LLB: 100 Questions are to be completed in a span of 90 Minutes. Here, since the Legal Aptitude section carries 40% weightage, give 35 minutes for this. However, make sure that you complete the remaining 2 sections in about 45 minutes so that you have a buffer time of 10 minutes.
