SSC JE 2019 Exam Pattern and Syllabus

SSC JE 2019 is conducted in two phases of Paper 1 and Paper 2 on the same day. Paper 1 is conducted online whereas paper 2 is conducted offline. The official notification for SSC JE 2019 has been released on the official website. SSC JE Paper-I will be held from September 23 to 27, 2019 while SSC JE Paper-II is scheduled for December 29, 2019.

  • Paper 1 contains questions paper of 200 marks to be done in 2 hours of duration. 
  • There is also a negative marking of 1/4th. For every single correct answer, candidate will be awarded 1 mark and there is a deduction of 0.25 marks for incorrect response. 
  • Paper 1 consists of three sections of General Intelligence, General Awareness and General Engineering (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical). Check SSC JE Eligibility 
  • Candidates who manage to clear paper 1 will only be eligible in paper 2. Paper 1 will act as a gateway for paper 2.
  • Paper 2 contains a question paper of 300 marks to be completed in 2 hours.
  • It contains the questions based on General Eng. (civil & structural), (Electrical) or (Mechanical) as per candidates choice.

SSC JE 2019 Exam Pattern in Detail 

SSC JE 2019 is conducted in two papers i.e. paper 1 and paper 2.  The type of question paper is objective type. Given below is the detailed pattern for paper 1 and paper 2 candidates should check.

Paper 1 

Paper 1 is conducted in an online mode i.e. computer based test. The type of question paper is objective i.e. MCQ based.

  • The duration for paper 1 is 2 hours and the question paper is of 200 marks.
  • For every single correct answer candidate will be awarded 1 mark. There is also a negative marking of 1/4th.
  • Candidates have to lose 0.25 marks for every incorrect response.
  • Paper 1 consist of 3 sections of General Intelligence, General Awareness and General Engineering (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical).
  • Section 1 and section 2 are compulsory for each candidate. In section 3 candidates have to make choice for the subject from Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
  • Section A and B consist of 50 marks each. This section checks the candidate’s ability and knowledge of general reasoning and awareness. Section C consist of 100 marks and checks candidate’s knowledge for the subject chosen from Civil/Mechanical/Electrical.

Paper 2

Paper 2 is conducted in an offline mode i.e. pen and paper mode. The type of question paper is multiple choice based.

  • The duration of exam is 2 hours i.e. from 2 pm to 4 pm.
  • Candidates have to attempt question paper of 300 marks in 2 hours.
  • Paper 2 is a conventional type exam, candidates have to choose the subject from Part A- General eng. (civil & structural), Part B- General eng. (Electrical) or Part C- General eng. (Mechanical).

SSC JE Syllabus 2019

SSC JE Syllabus includes topics from General Aptitude, General Awareness and Technical topics of the applied discipline. Given below are the key points of the SSC JE Syllabus:

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning section in Paper 1 of SSC JE comprises 50 questions. It includes questions on analogies, similarities, differences, space visualization, problem-solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series etc.
  • General Awareness section also includes 50 MCQs. There are questions based on candidate’s knowledge of current events. It also tests candidate’s observations and experience in their scientific field. 
  • General Engineering section in Paper 1 includes 100 objective type based on the stream opted by the candidate in SSC JE Application Form. Questions in Paper 2 of SSC JE will be based on similar topics but will be explanatory.
  • Paper 1 in SSC JE is computer based while Paper 2 is written examination
  • There are 200 questions in Paper 1 divided into three sections- General Awareness, General Aptitude and General Engineering. The time given to solve these questions is 2 hours.
  • Paper 2 contains 300 questions related to the applied discipline. There are three parts in the exam- Part A (Civil), Part B (Electrical) and Part C (Mechanical).

    SSC JE Syllabus 2019 for General Intelligence & Reasoning

    • General Intelligence & Reasoning Section includes 50 questions carrying 50 marks.
    • The section comprises judgements and conclusions from premises or facts.
    • The Reasoning Part is divided into Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
    • This section is very scoring, and most of the questions are easy to solve and they are not time-consuming.
    • More questions can be solved by the candidates and that too with great accuracy.
    • The test includes questions on analogies, similarities, differences, space visualisation, problem-solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figures classification, arithmetical number series etc.
    • It also tests candidate’s ability to deal with ideas and symbols (abstract in nature) and their relationships, arithmetical computations and analytical functions.

    SSC JE Syllabus 2019 for General Awareness

    • All the questions of General Awareness section are generally asked from current affairs.
    • Candidates can score high in this section by their general knowledge and latest updates of around themselves.
    • Questions are framed to test the candidate’s general awareness of the environment around them.
    • It tests candidate’s observations and experience in real life in scientific aspect.
    • There are questions related to relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity and Scientific Research, etc.

    SSC JE Syllabus 2019 for General Engineering

    There are three sections in General Engineering- Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering. Candidates have to choose one from these three topics.

    SSC JE 2019 Important Instructions   

    Given below are the important instruction for SSC JE 2019 candidates should read to avoid unknown mistake:

    • Candidate should reach the exam center 1 hour prior than the commencement of exam
    • Candidates must not forget to Admit Card on the day of exam, it is a gateway to the examination hall.
    • No electronic item is allowed in the examination hall which is considered as the subject of cheating.
    • No extra rough sheet is allowed in the examination hall. Margin will be given to do rough work in the test booklet.
    • Do not open the test booklet without permission
    • Fill the required details in the answer sheet. The result may not be evaluated if the details are not entered or entered correctly.
    • It is not allowed to clarify doubts on any item in test booklet from the invigilator.
    • Answer should be marked properly by darkening the circle in the OMR sheet.
    • Candidates should carefully listen to the instruction given by the invigilator.
    • Failure to follow instruction written in the examination will lead to disqualification.
