SSC Stenographer Eligibility: Age, Qualification and Reservation

Staff Selection Commission conducts recruitment examination for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘C’ &‘D’ every year. To apply for the exam successfully, a candidate must know eligibility criteria of SSC Stenographer in detail.

  • A candidate must have passed 10+2 examination from a recognized university or board to be eligible to apply for SSC Stenographer exam.
  • He/she must belong to the age group of 18 to 30 years to be eligible to fill the SSC Stenographer Application Form.
  • There is reservation for candidates belonging to the categories SC/ST/OBC/Ex-Serviceman/PH.
  • Only eligible candidates will be allowed to sit for the SSC Stenographer Skill Test which is followed by the written exam.

Academic Qualification for SSC Stenographer 2018

The minimum educational qualification required to appear in SSC Stenographer recruitment examination is 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized Board or University.

All thedegrees provided including technical education degree/diploma awarded through Open and Distance Learning mode of education by the Universities recognized for the purpose of employment to posts and services under the Central Government. It must be checked that they have been approved by the Distance Education Bureau, University Grants Commission.

All the candidates will be required to produce the relevant Certificates such as Mark sheets, Provisional Certificates of Intermediate/Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary in the original.

Age Limit for SSC Stenographer 2018

According to the SSC Stenographer eligibility criteria, the age limit for the candidates is given below. However, relaxation is given to candidates from OBC and SC/ST category

  • Maximum Age Limit for Grade C stenographer – 30 years
  • Maximum Age Limit for Grade D stenographer – 27 years
  • Maximum Age Limit for both Grade C and D is 18 years.

No Relaxation in Age will be provided to sons, daughters, and dependents of ex-servicemen.

Permissible relaxations of Upper age limit for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) categories are as under:-

Permissible relaxations of Upper age limit for other categories are as under:-

  • The candidates belonging to PH (PwD)/cerebral palsy (3) are provided a relaxation of 10 years included that the candidate’s age must not exceed 56 years.
  • Ex-Servicemen (Unreserved/ General) (6) are provided age relaxation of 03 years after deduction of the military service rendered from the actual age as on August 01, 2017
  • For Stenographer Grade “C” - Central Govt. Civilian Employees (General/Unreserved) who have served not less than 3 years of continuous service (12) have an upper age relaxation up to 5 years
  • For Stenographer Grade “D”- Central Govt. Civilian Employees  (General/Unreserved ) who have served not less than 3 years of continuous service (16) can avail the age relaxation up to 40 years of age
  • Central Govt. Civilian Employees (OBC) who have served not less than 3 years of continuous service (18) avail relaxation up to 43 years of age
  • Candidates who had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir (Unreserved/General) (21) are provided age relaxation of 5 years
  • For Group “C” post only – Post of Stenographer Grade “D”-Widows / Divorced Women / Women judicially separated and who are not remarried (Unreserved/General) (24) can avail age relaxation up to 35 years of age
  • Defense Personnel disabled in operation during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof (Unreserved/General) (27) can claim age relaxation of 5 years
  • Service Clerks in their last year of service in the Armed Forces (Unreserved/General) (33) can apply for the SSC Stenographer Exam till the age of 45.
  • For Stenographer Grade “D”- Retrenched census employees of Office of Registrar General of India (Unreserved/General) (36) can claim age relaxation of 3 years plus the length of service rendered by them in connection with census, before Retrenchment and weightage of past service.

Citizenship

All the aspiring candidates must meet the eligibility criteria for their Nationality as well. Here are the criteria that must be met by the candidates:

A candidate must be a citizen of any of the countries/ must satisfy the citizenship of the below-mentioned countries:

  1. India
  2. Subject of Nepal or
  3. Subject of Bhutan or
  4. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January 1962, or
  5. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Vietnam, Zambia, Sri Lanka, the United Republic of Tanzania(Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Ethiopia, Zaire, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, and Myanmar.

The government of India will issue a certificate of eligibility in favor of those candidates who belongs to categories 2, 3, 4 and 5 above.


SSC StenographerEligibility for Ex-Servicemen 2018

Eligibility criteria for ex-servicemen who will be competing in SSC Stenographer 2018 are explained below:

  • A candidate who has served as a combatant or non-combatant in Army, Navy and Air Force of the Indian Union.
  • Any person who has been releasedafter completing the specific period of engagement, or at his own request, or dismiss on account of misconduct or inefficiency and has been given a gratuity, and includes personnel of the Territorial Army (pension holders).
  • Candidates of the Army Postal Service who have served as a part of Regular Army and retired from the Army Postal Service, or are released from the Army Postal service on medical grounds and awarded medical or another disability pension.
  • Personnel, who were on deputation in Army Postal Service for more than six months prior to  April 14, 1987.
  • All the Gallantry award winners of the Armed Forces.
  • Ex-servicemen who are relieved on the medical ground with the medical disability pension.

Candidates who are serving as a Service Clerk in the last year of their service in the Armed Forces, and are due for release during the period 01-09-2017 to 31.08.2018 are eligible for age relaxation. Such candidates will be eligible to compete only for vacancies in Armed Forces Headquarters and Inter-Service Organisation.

No relaxation in age limit will be provided to sons, daughters, and dependents of ex-servicemen.


SSC StenographerReservation 2018

Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/Ex-Serviceman/PH i.e. (Persons with Disability (PWD)/ etc. categories is available as per Government of India norms.

The posts of Stenographers Gr. “C” have been identified suitable for:

  • The persons who are suffering from disabilities of One Arm (OA), One Leg (OL), Both Legs (BL), Blind (B) and LV (Low vision).

The posts of Stenographers Gr. “D” have been identified suitable for

  • The persons who are suffering from disabilities of One Arm (OA), One Leg (OL), One Arm and Leg(OAL)  Both Legs(BL), Blind (B) and LV(Low vision).

SSC Stenographer Vacancies

Vacancies  be uploaded on the website of the Commission once it is finalized by the concerned authorities.

  • Vacancies of Stenographers Grade “C” and “D” are in Ministries/Departments of Central Government.
  • Vacancies of Stenographers Grade “C” and “D” are also available in Attached/Subordinate offices of Ministries/Departments of Central Government located in States and Union Territories all over the country.
  • Hearing Impaired persons are considered not eligible for the posts of Stenographers.
